JUDY GARLAND: 'STAY ALL NIGHT' A DOCUMENTARY SNEAK TEASER.
Ойын-сауық
"Stay All Night," a new documentary that will explore Judy Garland's legendary performance at Carnegie Hall on April 23, 1961.
Among those working on the project are director and co-writer Steven Lippman, co-writer and Obie Award winner Ain Gordon, executive producers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman along with producer Mary Wharton.
The documentary, according to press notes, will be told "from the perspective of those who were in the audience at Carnegie Hall to create a picture of that day and evening in Manhattan and the experience of what is often described as 'the greatest night in show business history.' The landmark concert is a prism through which the film reflects upon the powerful bond between Garland and her audience, her lasting influence, life in New York City, and the promise of a new era.... The documentary will make extensive use of the music from the best-selling, multiple Grammy Award-winning recording of the concert, 'Judy at Carnegie Hall' (Capitol Records), in addition to an original instrumental score by acclaimed musician and producer Joe Henry."
In a statement director-co-writer Lippman said, "When you listen to the recording, you can't help but think, what must it have been like to be there? It's so alive and visceral. Garland is so connected to the people as a performer, and they to her. It feels so personal. By looking at this from the other side of the footlights, it allows the film to explore a mosaic of intimate tales and perspectives, not just of the experience of this legendary night, but also of a great city in a time of social change. These witnesses bring us closer to something we can only imagine being part of. Their memories are potent. Their own lives, compelling. In turn, we'll see something of ourselves in them, and how the times reflect back to us now. The connective threads all lead to Carnegie Hall and Judy Garland's heroic and legendary performance. Everything that night merged in a perfect unplanned combination - the artist, the audience, the concert hall, the city, and the era -- and it still resonates today."
Among those who attended the Garland concert are Carol Channing, Lauren Bacall, Henry Fonda, Richard Burton, Julie Andrews, Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, Phyllis Newman, Harold Arlen, Kay Medford, Jerry Herman and Terrence McNally.

Garland goes on stage in New York and *fifty* years later people are still making documentaries about it !! thats no mean acheivment in itself We have the recording but why the actual concert wasn't filmed is one of the biggest tragedies
I remember watching the Merv Griffin Show back in the day. One night he told the story of being there for that magical night. He told that back then men wore tuxedos & women dressed to the 9's when going to Carnegie Hall. With that said he went on to tell of the excitement going off the charts as Judy threw down song after song to the point where men were literally standing on their chairs hollaring & applauding until their gloves split at their seams, "BRAVO, BRAVO JUDY...WE LOVE YOU!!!
What a pity SEVEN YEARS LATER and this STILL has yet to be completed! I'm furious!
fair point - I do feel so sad & cheated that not enough was done to film her though it's not hindsight that has made her seem magical - she was recognised universally as the world's greatest entertainer IN HER LIFETIME - people knew at the time they were dealing with someone amazing Her Palace residency was an international phenomenon for example people stole light bulbs & tore up carpet for souvenirs of being in the same building where Garland sang - didn't someone think to film ONE night??
I'm in!!!! When is it coming out? Judy lives here in my home and my heart! In spite of all the shit M.G.M. put her through and all that goes with it Judy Garland wanted to sing to me and to you all.She is from a time that will never come again and I drop tears every so often about that! I look forward to seeing it and lighting that part of my mind from a time long ago when all the buzz was about Judy everyone had something to say but when she opened her mouth we all shut ours!!!!!!!Barb...
There were people in the NYC theater scene who canceled their shows just so they could come to see her. That's quite a tribute.
I realize this never came together for whatever reason, but I'd love to see some of the interviews with people who witnessed the concert. The 50th anniversary of her death is Saturday, and there is much interest in her.
Judy....there will never be another like
The film-maker was a friend of mine; he passed away before the project could be completed.

Can't wait to see it !! Judy LIVES .... xo
This video you made is absolute genius!! Thank you!!
What a tragedy this was not finished, but where is some footage that must have been shot? It would be priceless!
WHERE IS THIS MOVIE?????? I READ ABOUT IT COMING OUT AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED? It's not on Netfilx???
Yes! What happened to this film?????? Was it abandoned? Sounds like they interviewed quite a few people. Even if it goes straight to DVD, I hope it gets released. But was it ever completed? As for stars in the audience, I know that Julie Andrews was there. Wonder if they could get her to speak.
So am I. I love Judy Very much! My best wish!
She was definitely the Sarah Bernhardt, Jenny LInd etc of the 20th Century! Such a powerhouse of talent in such a small body. Try to think of one entertainer that can top her even though there are many gifted ones.
Before home video and High deff, it was a gamble spending money on movie cameras for a concert that hadn't happened yet. Filming would have taken away from it I think, Judy was either filming a movie or performing for an audience. She'd be a nervous wreck with those big bright theatre without the darkness to see the spotlight and the glow of the footlights. It would have been very un-broadway
If i could time travel...
My only wish that some of the greats who were there that night were still alive to share their memories.
I thought this was going to be a book. I didn't know it was going to be a filmed documentary too, Does anyone have any information on this?
when? I live in Italy ... sigh. Released in Italy? it posted here?
When is this documentry coming out???
Hello! Where is this movie? help!
