There never was, nor will there ever be again, as great a talent on this planet. She was one of a kind, and even the most talented of those who came after will never come close to her unique combination of talent, heart, courage, vulnerability and personal charisma. One of the great regrets of my life is that I never had the chance to hear her sing in person. Maybe in my next life!!

Wow, no wonder I sat every Sunday night mesmerized as a teen watching this legendary icon sing and perform like nobody before or since...love the way she looks in this gorgeous dress and Judy totally nails "Hey! Look Me Over", making this classic all her own...Bravo Judy, love and miss you and RIP sweet soulful lady...

Wonderful voice for a wonderful performance, but for some reason I still love Lucy's performance of this song!

Good for you, hirchik !! I agree with you wholeheartedly ..Judy Does deserve much respect and admiration for her overwhelming talent, not only as a singer but as an Actress, who SHOULD have WON for, A Star Is Born !! The WORST Oscar Blunder in it's sad history of stupid Blunders..that one was the most ridiculous ( most people realize she was robbed !) I am so blown away by her it hurts..she is just in a class by herself ..no other name can compare ..not Streisand, Sinatra or anybody else...xo

I always wonder if Judy really forgot her lines or changed them for fun. For example, the original lyric is "Hey cop a gander" and only in this performance do I hear her sing "Hey take a gander". In any case, each performance seemed very new, despite being the same song.

Have you seen the other time she sang it on her TV show with the sequined all in one outfit? She messes up 'From trouble I'm gonna stay aloof' Then comes back with 'And just in case you think I'll goof!' instead of 'And just in case you need more proof' Then she laughs. I love it, and as you said, did she really forget the words? She used to do the same with That's Entertainment. The brilliant arrangement for this was done by Mort Lyndsey, and the special material was by Saul Chaplin. Great guys.

The dress is the first thing I noted... "Dress! Oh, and it's Judy!" Maybe it's because it's in black and white, but it's fantastic!

How she did shine. She was very thin , but because of her struggle with her weight in her teens, she always thought she was fat. Tradgically, diet drugs started the addiction that took her life.

In June of 1969, her death gave others the courage to be themselves no matter what. Yes, she remains a gay icon, much loved and respected by the gay community. Her death gave courage to a bunch of drag queens in mourning to fight back when the NYPD raided their bar. The riot spilled to the streets and lasted a couple of days. Thus gay pride was born and we have been fighting our way to equality ever since. RIP Dorothy. You are the best.

You are right, the special section was written Just for Judy by Saul Chaplin. I will have a go with what I think the lyrics are: 'Ev'rybody better spread out cos when I set out I'm gonna need lot's of space. Nobody else is gonna show me Cos folk's will know me As the kid with the laughing face. From trouble I'm gonna stay aloof. And just in case you need more proof. Hey cop-a-gander look at this chick. Fix 'em to me and it's true Thin or thick. But don't get depressed If you hear that I've been in a row, Cos if there's a way to get out of it I'll always find a how. I'm going up up up Like a rosebud on the vine. Don't thumb your nose bud Take a tip from mine. Oh the skies may not always be sunny. I'll tell you something that's funny. The sun will always shine on me You'll see. Things there gonna hum. So look out world here I come.' These were the lyrics from when she first sang it in 1962 but since then she does sometimes change the odd word as you may hear on different versions of the same arrangement. This is one of my favourite Judy songs.
