That's a real fighting Judoka right there. Stronger than an ox, olympic gold medalist athlete, super skilled grappler, gave no fucks. He stood toe to toe with prime Wanderlei and Cro Cop. I miss the days when he fought.

This man used Judo alone in MMA and dominated. I mean, that says a lot. He didn’t train in other arts. He stuck to his Judo and look how far it got him. Judo was more complete then.

He picked up a lot of striking along the way. Look at his fight with ishii which was by the end of his career. Very few judo was going on. He did well agains most grappling oriented fighter but when he faced elite strikers like cro cop or wanderlei, he just got destroyed. Maybe by then he was just too spent anyway…

It's the most effective fighting style generally speaking. Ofcourse you need takedown defense and at least SOME groundgame but if you have those two and you're a great striker than you'll be great. Kind of like Israel Adesanya, jon jones, Anderson Silva etc. If you are not a good striker and you can't take someone down fast enough before you get tired of busted up (or simply because your opponent won't let you) then you're toast. You have no options left then. Striking is extremely important. It can win fights in 1 punch and save you a lot of headache.
