I'm one of the bigger guys in my gym at 230lb. My favorite guy to learn from is a dude who's literally 1/2 my size at 115lb. I don't drop my weight on him, but I ask to put him in positions the biggest guys get me in and ask him to show me how he'd get out. This little dude is a MF ninja and is always at a size disadvantage. I take what he teaches me into the matches with the Ultras. This dude is my master Yoda.

Thanks gang... This dude is so great, when he takes your back, trying to peel him off is like trying to scratch an itch you can't reach. It's the best kind of frustration... I'm terrified of the day he perfects his submission game!
And kudos to the blue(black) belt for keeping the roll civilized and not trying to brute force through the roll. You can tell from the first take down attempt that he went softly and didn't try to smash you. A really enjoyable bjj partner

Yeah, it was pretty clear from the first throw attempt that he was certainly being super cautious considering the limited mat space and the people rolling on the other side, first throw he could had finished by moving him towards the white mat.

I’m 185lbs, and 3 of my favorite training partners are 225lbs, 260lbs, snd 290lbs. For me, the Omaplata is my favorite and most effective attack. Big guys have a fear of rolling out of the sub and taking bottom position. They usually also have inflexible shoulders.
@bjjintahiti
11 ай бұрын
Pretty much exactly the same post I was going to make. My gym has lots of super heavy weights and I omoplata all of them, they don't tend to be very fast at rolling out of it like the smaller guys so I can always catch their hips before they roll and as No Floor Nerds EndOfLine said, they tend to have inflexible shoulders.

I'm down to about 285, and my shoulders are very flexible. I don't get omaplata used on me that often. I once had a purple belt try it against me in no-gi and I just flipped him around. He's landed it against me once afterwards but it took him forever. I'm still a white belt, btw. The most effective (annoying) attacks I get from smaller guys (everyone in my gym weighs less than I do) have to do with taking my back and choking me. Guys closer to my size can't do it so easily. I always look at stuff like tempo. A smaller guy has more speed and usually can gas out a larger guy. So as the larger guy, my whole game is to slow the other guy down and use my strength and size. I'm giving up speed to pretty much everyone, and even if I can be explosive, I can't sustain that like someone smaller might. So I have a pretty good base and try to make him do the work. I can move myself but it's easier to move the other guy. I always try to get pressure from top if I can, or sweep to get to top if I'm on bottom if I can, unless the other guy is close to my size. It's very hard to submit from the bottom against someone a lot smaller.
Beautiful content. Thank you for all of this.
Great job! Chris is a beast so very impressive!

I roll with a 6"7 250 guy im 180 6" and I regularly take his back thanks to your underhook from closed guard approach. From there I make his life difficult until I see a submission. Thank you these videos
I'm 5' 11" 175lbs. I try to mount big guys and let them bench press me while trying to make myself like a water bed not a statue. When they tire I go for Ezekiel.
Great video. That camp looked awesome. All of my favorite BJJ KZreadrs (you, Jedi, Tyler, and Carson). I wish I could have been there. As for rolling with the big boys (I call them 'farm animals'), I'm happy to stay on top and let the submissions come instead of trying to force something to happen. I think you're right that your success will come from taking the back and getting a collar. Your videos are so good. I love how you include both principles and techniques. Super helpful. I admired how you humbly admitted your difficulty pulling the John Wayne sweep on a guy that big and whose base was so solid. Keep up the good work.

Great vid, looked like a hard round 🤜🤛
Super cool to watch.
I recently had a 2 level spinal fusion and will return in a couple months, but as 140lb male I think my days of rolling with big dudes is over.
One of my more challenging partners outweighs me by 100lbs. I’ve had success with the sit out to back take. But man when he gets side control…. It’s rough. I really appreciate how you think principle based, rather than procedurally. It’s helped my game a lot. “Hips higher”
I like rolling with the big guys. My main training partner is a huge dude. I find myself having a bit of success with the sacrifice throws. What ends up working is sumi gaeshi, tomo, Kata guruma, and single legs once in a while. Fighting from the bottom is REALLY hard. I often go for spider guard so there's less pressure. sometimes leads to triangle(hard to finish on biggies) or it transitions to omoplata or armbar. I end up going for legs game when I can. Even staying on top is hard, so I switch position often. Kesa gatame armbars work if I can sneak them fast.
Great technical roll with a highly skilled opponent 👍
Best moves for big guys is a question I want an answer to as well. I’m about 175lbs and I’m competing in the absolute division in a couple weeks. I’m really lanky, so I like chaining arm bars from triangles. Hammer locks are gold in general. You don’t need a lot of movement to generate tons of force, and from the spiral ride, you’re using your entire body to pop the arm out.
Man we need to start crosstraining with our Judo brothers and sisters. We have a lot to teach eachother.

I'm 5'6" 145lb (male) so most people I roll with are bigger and heavier than me. I'm only blue belt but have been having decent success lately by surfing guys more from the top - going from side control to knee ride to north south etc. It's better than trying to completely immobilise someone who can literally just bench press you 😅
@vibovitold
11 ай бұрын
well, at the end of the day, we don't train jiu-jitsu to be able to defeat smaller and weaker people : ) you don't need jiu-jitsu for that i kind of pity the big guys in a way, because it's harder for them to develop technique when 90% of their sparing partners are small (from their perspective), they're not getting very good feedback it's harder for them to tell if they're doing something properly, or just bruteforcing it such guy has nobody of his size in the gym (or one other guy, whose game he's already learned inside out), then he goes to a competition, and oops, his favorite stuff doesn't work anymore because he (finally) runs into someone who's just as heavy and strong. particularly problematic for big guys who train in smaller clubs
@bolenarrow9286

Yeaaa you gotta learn to ride the bigger people's movements and use their big pushes to just get you to other positions and keep wearing them down that way.

@maxk880

He's insanely strong and way stronger and heavier, that helps. I think it really depends on which judo school you were taught? Some judo schools focus 100% on competition judo from start, so they'll only do and learn the olympic rule styles, which is quite limited. Some schools which offer a more oldschool program have lots of ne-wazi techniques and maybe even some sparring @@muhammadkamil3558
Ok, on big guys. If I have mount, I ratchet up an arm to threaten arm triangle. But they can power out so I focus my neck more toward their elbow, for control. Then Ezekiel or back take. Strong guys will hurt their shoulder before they’ll let you choke them. Gotta go around.
super thanks 👊
Against other big guys I find myself having to put my top-side knee right on their hip or belt to gain a bit more leverage for the john wayne sweep.
Great video
I am about 115lb and my favorite is to roll with guys at least 50lbs more. Also, a balloon sweep works very well on someone else of larger size, I used it yesterday! Feels great to finally have some new skills up my gi lol!

Textbook wearing a big man down by constantly moving and making him constantly have to move. Great patience
Dude you are awesome. Really good, would love to see you roll with someone great like Roger Gracie. That would be incredible
Newb question here: around 10:35 mark after Jordan grips his collar for the choke, is it fair game to attack that grip? Like the only way to get out would be to attack those fingers /grip but that’s not considered to be proper BJJ etiquette right? Or even if he did he would have just got caught by a different strangle?
This looks like the most fun bat mitzvah ever!
It was nice of him to take it easy standing. He let the Sasaei go at the beginning.

Not easy being on the smaller side in this sport. I've lost some weight but plan on gaining it back. Makes life/bjj easier haha
I don’t enjoy rolls with the big guys. They will withhold their strength until they get compromised, and then violently explode out of it without proper technique, occasionally increasing risk for injuries to both of us
He did really well.
For any one one interested in martial arts, how could anyone not find this video enjoyable

Over the last decade I can't think of too many things that I have problems with...but over the last 2 years...there's been 1 black belt that has seem to always get me on my side with my back to him...he's been able to attack that arm...fairly simple...everyone else doesn't even come close..but he keeps nailing it. My strength is of very little use against him. ....and I am still in the 1100-1200 lb 3 collective lift area....squat, bench, deadlift.... 6'3 , 210lbs... Out of everyone I roll with ( all ranks) his approach has been nearly flawless.
