Judi Dench: The Waterstones Interview
Ойын-сауық
Widely regarded as one of Britain’s greatest actresses, Dame Judi Dench has conquered both stage and screen in a career spanning six decades. In Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays The Rent, her conversations with actor and director Brendan O’Hea provide illuminating insights into the works of the Bard as well as hugely entertaining stories from her life on stage. Will Rycroft sat down for his own conversation with them both to talk about first steps on the stage, the genius of Shakespeare, and why being part of a company in service of an audience is the most important thing.

Nothing wrong with swearing - When Judy does it!!
I saw her in Mother Courage many many years ago and when she first walked onto the stage I had never seen an actor transform so much to being totally unrecognizable, and yet totally truthful. I was stunned at that performance and it never left me. The one thing that always sticks out for me with Dame Judi, is that whatever character she is playing, she always, always tells the truth and that always separates good actors from the great.
Dame Judi is a national treasure. I love her and could listen to her for hours. If anyone can convince folk to learn and listen more about Shakespeare then this is the lady to do it 💜
Brilliant interview. Brilliant interviewer, who knows how to lead and follow like a graceful dancer. (I’m sure his acting chops help.) I could listen to Dame Judi and Mr. O’Hea for hours. Her brief recitations brought tears to my eyes, and when she asked Will why he remembered his speech from Shakespeare and answered for him, “It’s your heartbeat,” I was finished. What a treasure this clip is. Can’t wait to read the book.Thank you.

Judi’s family story on ‘Who do you think you are’, was THE best of all the series.

What an absolute joy this interview is - I so love Dame Judi and will certainly buy the book
A fabulous interviewer and interview. Could listen to all of these people for days ❤
I have just watched, for the second time, Dame Judi Dench reciting a Shakespeare sonnet. It was extraordinary, magnificent. A wonderful actress and lady.
One of a kind is Dame Judi. Britain is blessed to.have her.
Such sweet sorrow to see my beautifully stunning, favorite actress recount her life and attributes of it in lines remembered and flourished in her most generous heart. ✨May she live forever ✨
A wonderful actress, I saw her on stage and she rivets attention.
I could listen to this lady all day.
What a gift this interview is ...thank you

Wow your uncle sounds amazing
Judi Dench, her literary partner Brendan and Will, the invested interviewer made a fascinating triumvirate navigating memories, methods, acting toolbox contents and flavorings of the parts actors play on stage. A real treat. Thank you for sharing,❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Really interesting to listen to Judy reference the past, because she doesn't reminisce, but draws on memory of past experiences for insight. She is such a good sort. She seems devoid of airs and graces. Will, I really enjoy the way you interview, or rather sit down and have a good natter with various people. I enjoy your observations because you obviously know What you're talking about. May you live long and prosper🤟
No question. I absolutely love Judi Dench! ❤❤❤
I like her acting, and I appreciate that she keeps her politics to herself. She seems a very kind person.
I LOVE Judi Dench AND she is BEAUTIFUL, too‼️‼️‼️
She's a National Treasure.
Yes, I too could listen to Judi all day. I want her, like Alan Bennett and plenty of others, to go on forever. There is all kinds of wrong in this world but everything right with artistry like theirs.
Oh, Judi, so good to see you! Please keep doing interviews so your fans (loved ones) can keep up with you. Omgosh, I'm a consistent watcher of, "As time goes by." I watch it ( it's my go to show for tears and fears) when I'm feeling down and out of sorts, it is a God send. Thank you! I love you, and wish I could talk to you while still on this earth, but I suspect not😢. But know, you're loved and thought about most ardently!! 💜🌿
I recognised Brendan from an episode of 'Keeping Up Appearances'. ''I've only ever had to remove my shoes once before. And that was in a mosque. And then, the sermon was shorter!'' 🤣
When she starts to recite I just immediately cry. I mean that is really some gift she has. None like her ❤
Judy is fabulous , always lovely to listen to her
Just a national treasure love her. ❤
What a delightful interview! Looks easy when it's done well, and this is done superbly.
I just love her an amazing woman after all these years
I just love..love ..love Ms Judy, Dame. Her pearls of wisdom are appropriate for any life well lived.
Fascinating interview! Thank you!
It’s his sigh at the start when she complains about the noise 😂
My favorite lady of all ❤
Thank you, this was delightful. Always love to see Judi Dench ; Will Rycroft and Brendan O’Hea made even more fun!

I love Judy
These two together 😂 and lovely interviewer fantastic ❤
Lol 😂 I agree with Judy, and would be very interested in k owing what 99 year old people eat!! All of her interests are fascinating to me. I, highly recommend her vid on trees 🎄 and her love for them ❤ Also her trip to the rainforest was Rivetting !!
I want a fly on the wall show with Judi and Maggie Smith, and wine. I have a feeling it would be hilarious and profanity filled, and the best acting class ever.
we love ujudi❤
😍😍😍
i could listen to judi dench, felicity kendall, joanna lumley and david attenborough all day long.
she has a lovely home. the interviewer is cute too.
Brillant.
Has anyone asked Judy Dench, 'If there are parts in film or on stage that she would still like to play and never have?'
It's just a shame that several people pre-ordered the Signed edition, way back when it was first announced, and when orders arrived, the books weren't signed , it had to be rearranged with book plate editions instead
They look like each other....like most couples.
Joseph and today 😀
Judi has said more than once that she is sick to death of being called a national treasure and that she just wants to have conversation instead of always defending her role in the acting world.
Omg from the thumbnail I thought it was the pope, you know the one who resigned

"National Treasure" is a phrase bandied about sometimes. But in the case of Judi Dench it should be "World Treasure" and this podcast really shows why. I have always loved the way she "chews scenery" by underplaying which she goes into a bit. But what you take away from this extraordinary interview is what an amazing human being Dame Dench is. An exceptional interview about an extraordinary person. I can't wait to read the book@@WaterstonesTV
Love everything you create! I think a Homeopathic Dr. Could help with Judi's mucus, with PULSATILLA. Changed my life.
The poor sucker was sucked into it .
