Recently watched all of Freaks and Geeks. Absolutely adored it. It pains me that only 18 episodes were made.

I liked it but it kept me longing for more. So sort of pointless.

I found this show on Netflix and binge watched it in 2 days. So all of a sudden I'm this huge fan of this show and was disappointed that it only had 1 season. I looked it up and the internet said it was cancelled because the ratings weren't that good. So what does that tell you about these tv show executives? They have no eye for anything besides a popularity chart. I could definitely imagine that the show would have been the greatest show of all time had no talent executives get in the way. I hope the people who made that decision to pull the plug got their blind asses fired!!

Yeah I mean, I watched it when it was on, and it was just a different time I guess, 1999/2000. It was on NBC and it was too good a show for normal network prime time. This was right before the like prestige cable boom, and definitely before streaming, and so it was harder for weirder niche shows to find a home. You really needed massive viewership numbers to stay on, it was just such a different way to present and consume TV, it's weird to look back on it now and realize how much has changed. And no one at the time - outside comedy circles - really knew Judd Apatow, so his name didn't mean much. And all those actors who are now well-know established vet names, then they were just young new kids no one cared about. But even watching it then, it just felt really special and really different. So to look back on it now 20 yrs later and see the amazing careers everyone involved has had, it's really satisfying to know those who knew it was good, were onto something. And at least it lives on for new people to discover. Hindsight is 20/20 though for sure, and TV has changed leaps and bounds.

A tv show about how marginalized unpopular people in high schools experience their lives and the awkwardness of growing up, ironically discarded because the executives didn't think it was popular. Now tens of millions of people regard it as one of the greatest tv shows of all time and probably the single best portrayal of the American high school experience.

That actually explains a lot. They had a phenomenal cast for that show - so it makes sense that they made casting a great group of actors - and then - writing a show around who they were. .

Netflix should do a reunion special and frame it as a high school reunion for the characters. It wouldn't even need to be scripted. Audiences would just enjoy seeing the cast together again.

I watched the whole thing for the first time on IFC many years ago and loved it. I had heard of it when it first aired and caught a few minutes back in 1999. The network marketed the show as a comedy. It's more of a drama than a comedy. So I didn't understand it.

Hey Judd Apatow, I know you were "incredibly empowering" (relatively = keyword here), but have you watched Busy Philipps' interviews with Sam? Maybe watch and reflect.
