▶ Taken from our Richie Faulkner Tone Masterclass & Interview: • Richie Faulkner Almost...
In this excerpt from our Richie Faulkner Tone Masterclass, watch Richie Faulkner, renowned guitarist of Judas Priest, showcase what pedals he uses on tour when out with Judas Priest - hint: there’s no massive rack mounted setup here! Richie shreds for us and demonstrates how he gets his signature sound using a modest selection of guitar pedal effects and shows us how he uses pedals like chorus and drive yet keeps his rig fairly simple - relying on the natural tone of his guitar and amplifiers.
Of course, Richie Faulkner’s sound uses the chorus effect, which he keeps on for about 95% of his playing to add movement and texture to his riffs and guitar solos. Watch as he shows Gibson Gear Guide host Dinesh Lekhraj how the chorus effect not only enhances his sound, giving it more weight, but also acts like a dynamic equalizer, something that a “typical” EQ pedal can’t replicate. Watch him play with his Univibe pedal (a pedal used by Jimi Hendrix) and how it can change your tone and dynamics, particularly when using active pickups, and how he tweaks the pedal to get the sound just right for the Judas Priest sound.
Of course, no Richie Faulkner or Judas Priest Gear Guide would be complete without discussing the wah pedal! Richie’s use of a wah pedal is also covered, where he shows Dinesh how to use a wah without completely dominating the sound.
What’s interesting is that although Richie DOES use a modest selection of effects, his core setup remains relatively simple and focused on making his natural guitar tone as good as it can be FIRST. it’s all about tube amps alongside his custom Flying V™ to get the power. For fans of Judas Priest and those wanting to replicate the Richie Faulkner sound, this is a great insight into how keeping it simple can lead to great sounds and get you that heavy Judas Priest tone you’re looking for!

I am so glad Richie survived that tragic heart issue! Dude was soloing so hard, it ripped his heart! Many more years Richie!

Not only survived but finished the show as well. I first saw him as some ‘kid’ playing with Lauren Harris opening for Iron Maiden on tour years ago and instantly fell in love with his playing. Awesome player and seems like a truly awesome dude in every interview.

I love chorus. People keep telling me I use it too much. I obviously ignore them. What we want is a cheaper version of the Falcon's V.

Love Ritchie. to me he'll always be that guy who posted INCREDIBLE covers on YT yeaaaars ago. Then when I heard he got the gig for Priest, I thought "that is the absolute best reason to never have to upload covers on your channel ever again" 😂

Hi everyone, it's nice to see subtitles in Portuguese but it's clear that they were automatically translated and are inaccurate at several points. If you need a specialized technical translator, I have 22 years of experience in the field. If you want to contact me here, that's fine. Best regards.

Kid Rock should definitely not be on my shuffleboard… Since I know all of those people were robbing me for upwards of 20 years… I definitely will not work with them and the most disrespectful things that I have encountered in Puerto Rico involved in surround his family… There is no way I would ever work with that guy I would never share my material with him or any of his people… That would include every single Detroit artist… I’ve already stumbled across a Mitch rider and the wheels issued down here… Guys are a total prick, And last, but not least, isn’t negotiable to terrorist on either side of the crowd…

This isn't Kid Rock and he isn't compatible with "shuffleboard" or a pedal board. Richie is clearly British and Kid Rock is *aggressively* proud of being from the US.
