    That’s true but that can potentially be a disastrous contract because he can have a career ending injury and the team would be in the hook for all that money. When a team commits to you for that length, they can’t give you such an astronomical figure that could potentially leave your franchise in the dust for a decade. They’re a always risk and he’s guaranteed 15 years, no matter what

    Crazy how dumb some people can be. He obviously didn’t say no because he wanted a bigger contract, he said no because he doesn’t want to be in dogshit dc for his whole career. Dc committed to a rebuild prior to the Soto contract, so they had basically given up on the next few seasons. The padres on the other hand want to win. Soto, like many other players, wants to win. Good choice in my mind.

  • @chandlercarroll3242

    @chandlercarroll3242

    Жыл бұрын

    He didn’t choose to go to the padres? He would’ve had to accept any trade so the nats could’ve sent him to the A’s or whoever is just as bad as the Nats but the padres just happened to offer the best prospects so really he got lucky. Soto said no for many reasons, he wants to be higher than the 16th highest paid player annually especially when he’s got better stats then almost any hitter above him on the list. He’s one of the most accomplished young players ever and he doesn’t want to be undersold and tied down to one team for His whole career. It was just all around not a good contract offer, there’s a reason why we don’t see 15 year deals all the time. In a few seasons Soto will probably end up settling for less total money, but more annual money with less years so in the short run & long run he will end up making more plus he will have more flexibility choosing where he wants to play throughout his career rather than hoping the nationals can rebuild a championship team.

Name a young star baseball player who was a same caliber star in PERFORMANCE and not on drugs after 32. I'll wait! Injuries and attrition affect even the best players. In the NBA you get the rookie deal, and if you're a star for 10 years, you get 2 big money contracts. In baseball, you're not going to get better at 30, so take the money now! HES BATTING 100 POINTS LOWER than 2 seasons ago. So if he takes a 5 year deal for 220M, you think when hes 28 batting 250 hes gonna get 500M. Would be a poor investment. Even those long deals are poor investments for the teams, because they ALL SUCK by the tail end of the deal. Pujols, Arod, Miggy, even Trout and Harper are showing signs, and they're still young! Baseball is tough on the body TAKE THE MFn MONEY.
