That’s true but that can potentially be a disastrous contract because he can have a career ending injury and the team would be in the hook for all that money. Nobody is making 50 mil a year
Crazy how dumb some people can be. He obviously didn’t say no because he wanted a bigger contract, he said no because he doesn’t want to be in dogshit dc for his whole career. Dc committed to a rebuild prior to the Soto contract, so they had basically given up on the next few seasons. The padres on the other hand want to win. Soto, like many other players, wants to win. Good choice in my mind.
@chandlercarroll3242
Жыл бұрын
He didn’t choose to go to the padres? He would’ve had to accept any trade so the nats could’ve sent him to the A’s or whoever is just as bad as the Nats but the padres just happened to offer the best prospects so really he got lucky. Soto said no for many reasons, he wants to be higher than the 16th highest paid player annually especially when he’s got better stats then almost any hitter above him on the list. He’s one of the most accomplished young players ever and he doesn’t want to be undersold and tied down to one team for His whole career. It was just all around not a good contract offer, there’s a reason why we don’t see 15 year deals all the time. In a few seasons Soto will probably end up settling for less total money, but more annual money with less years so in the short run & long run he will end up making more plus he will have more flexibility choosing where he wants to play throughout his career rather than hoping the nationals can rebuild a championship team.

He was saying more or less that he wants to keep the deal private bc he doesnt want people knowing he turned it down
Well his explanation is super in depth, totally understandable…
I wonder if people will still be so shocked about him turning down 15 years $440mil when he signs for 10 years $500 mil this off season
He’s young and great He will make more than 440 M in less than 15 years. Beside that who want to stay with the nationals while they rebuild. He got 1 Ring already. I’m sure the player union wasn’t having it ether. Cole from yanks signed a 325M for 9 years with yanks. Smart for him to hold off
It wasn't only about he money. He didn't want to play for the Nats and endure a long rebuild.

He wouldn’t have been top 10 aav I don’t blame him at all

Get lost, you don’t care about anything else than your overrated team.
I don't blame him for 1 The nationals always ruin good things an for 2 players have made up to 300 million for a 8-10 year contract an even that's 2 long 2 commit 2 but 15 years that's basically committing your whole life 2 them!
Guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side is it....
Soto speaks amazing English for a 23-year-old who grew up in the DR!
Painful....🤣🤣😍
That’s the best start you can ask for but I predict over the span of 15 years he’ll make more or close to it off 3 year deals at a time
That’s called the Nationals’ GM being petty that he said no and then trying to make him look bad in order to save face with their fans. Fact of the matter is he’s one of the best players in the game, and that contract doesn’t even pay 30 million per/year, which is what the other elite players are making. He made the right decision
5 years $225M is what he'll sign.
How is he the best hitter in the game right now lmfao we all remember that guy judge right? 43 home runs batting 300? Oh yeah that fella......
Whatever his reasons are, he is in the position to make this decision, not you.
It is painful to hear $440 million.. it gives me a headache just mentioning it..🤕
I can’t imagine how hard it is to make millions to play baseball

You sound stupid bro it’s a whole career like tha I wouldn’t want to play with a terrible team for 14 years 😭
The best hitter in the game? 🤣 sheesh....
Any player that hires Boras as an agent understands they’re going into free agency. Boras clients always test the market to maximize their $. So for Soto to say what he’s saying, doesn’t make sense to me but that’s just me.
We all feel your pain. Hope life works out for you.
Rememeber when guys would come into the MLB and want to be the best player to ever play the sport. Now they want to be the one who earns the most. Smh

Would you willingly work for 40% less than your coworkers who do worse of a job than you?
440mil for 10 years is a bad deal... 15 years? GTFO ...
He won’t be getting no $400 million offers anymore lmao. He’s a $25 million a year player at best.
15 years 😯no wonder he turned It down.
Just think of emotions as a tax bracket There are levels to this If you Guys have never been offered 440 And are a multimillionaire in your 23’s You Have 0 idea how he feels Let’s just keep our mouths shut.

mans living in 2022 talking about batting average that's crazy...
These comments are so dumb. he's from a third world country and was offered nearly half a billion dollars fully guaranteed. Name a young star baseball player who was a same caliber star in PERFORMANCE and not on drugs after 32. I'll wait! Injuries and attrition affect even the best players. In the NBA you get the rookie deal, and if you're a star for 10 years, you get 2 big money contracts. In baseball, you're not going to get better at 30, so take the money now! HES BATTING 100 POINTS LOWER than 2 seasons ago. So if he takes a 5 year deal for 220M, you think when hes 28 batting 250 hes gonna get 500M. Would be a poor investment. Even those long deals are poor investments for the teams, because they ALL SUCK by the tail end of the deal. Pujols, Arod, Miggy, even Trout and Harper are showing signs, and they're still young! Baseball is tough on the body TAKE THE MFn MONEY.

Your an idiot. His stats are literally insane, batting average shows nothing and he’s going to get a contact either this offseason or in 2.5 years for more money or the same. He is a top 3 player right now you clearly do not watch baseball or understand anything about it

He’ll earn all those millions within 15 years, so he’ll earn about 29 million per year. He prolly feels he’s worth more than 29m per year which I understand if he does when other players are earning way more than that.

Checking in a year later, he's batting 262. Guess Idk what I'm talking about 😂
God I’m so glad he’s in pinstripes and I hope my Yankees make sure and learn from this mistake and lock him up for the rest of his career in the Bronx and do it with class
440 Million for 15 years isn’t peanuts or small potatoes. Juan and people makes sound like 29.33 Million per year is peanuts . Juan now has gone to San Diego and New Yankee looking for that enormous, contract. Especially now probably wants a bigger contract or equal to Shotani
there is no violin small enough for me to play
Totally Overrated walk machine.
440 over 10 years woulve been less than hes going to make over the next ten years. 15 years was a slap in the face and i dont blame him for leaving
Imagine feeling "uncomfortable" when the world finds out someone wants to pay u 450 mil 😂
He probably got family back home that people were kidnapped for money that's why he probably wanted a low key.
