I didn't buy daredevil at the time (could only buy so much) but his covers always stood out to me on the spinner rack. I would flip through the books at the store until i was chased away.

You guys talk alot about the artists you grew up with. JRJR is probably the only one I can claim as mine. Snatching up comics at convenience stores in the early and mid 90s, seemed like JRJR was on everything. X-Men, Spider Man, Daredevil, etc. I knew it was only a matter of time. Perfect Sunday morning workout listen.

JRJR's DareDevil work with Ann Nocenti is my favourite DD. The JRJR/Miller origin stuff was great too. I liked the skinny ankle Spider-Man it had a Peter Chung, Aeon Flux feel. I'd love to see what JRJR could do with a slightly extended figures Aeon Flux style...

I remember meeting JRJR in Iowa City when I was in high school. Super nice guy, very funny. I had him sign one of his first Iron Man books that he did breakdowns on and he looked through every page and said “I can’t believe they gave me credit and paid me for this”. He basically said he didn’t have any idea what he was doing at that time. He also did a awesome head sketch of Daredevil with a sharpie in my sketch book insanely fast. Great guy!

Great interview. JRJR's got class, and he's a great storyteller. His Daredevil work with Anne Nocenti is, in my mind, the definitive Daredevil. I remember the bit where DD has a run in with Mehphisto and Blackheart - absolutely phenomenal. He's also my favorite modern Spider-man artist, edged out only by Ditko and John Romita. Fantastic way to spend a Sunday morning, keep 'em coming.

Hilarious! First thing I thought of when I saw JR in this video was “Hunk of the Month”! I remember being like 9 years old taking the bus to school and the high school kids grabbed whatever comic I was reading at the time, they saw JRs picture as the Hunk, and were laughing their asses off as they passed the comic around to each other on the bus. Actually I remember thinking he looked kind of cool, like an Italian John Cougar Mellencamp!

Another great interview, guys! I’ve met JRjr a couple of times over the years and he extremely humble as he is talented! A hard working artist who doesn’t rest on laurels! If you’re lucky enough to write a tale he’s gonna draw ya damn sure co plot with him and then let him loose! Marvel should wise up and never ever let him go again! John has more than proven himself and is the real deal! Nuff said! LOL! Thanks again, guys!

JRJR and Miller's The Man Without Fear was my introduction to Daredevil when I was a kid. A few years later, when I was in 11th grade and working part-time down at the local Board of Ed, I struck up a conversation with one of our two Assistant Superintendents. He told me he was a Kevin Smith fan. I ended up lending him the first issue of Smith's Daredevil run, which had just come out, and my copy of The Man Without Fear's TPB at the time.

At the 50min mark, when he's talking about the anonymous writer that hamstrung him because the scripts were very tight, I don't think there's much doubt that it must be Chris Claremont. He pretty much said that at 9min30sec when he said Chris writes very explicit scripts and I'm sure that didn't leave much room for artistic leeway. It's such a shame that JR never got to return to Uncanny after Starbrand, I absolutely LOVED the CC + JRjr run, it's still my favorite out of all the X-Men periods since this is where the X-Men became more like real people and less like ciphers. Both the writing and the art brought out their humanity (like Storm simply taking Logan's hand in the aftermath of Rachel's disappearance, very small touches that gave nuance to the interpersonal relationships among the team). Even though they're friends now, I doubt they'll ever work together again.

Not many comics were sold where I grew up, but one of the very first comic books that I've managed to put my grasp on as a kid was a John Romita Jr. with Strackzynski on Spider-man.
