The saddest thing about this song is this is based on a true story. His cousin who took his own life. The chorus "tell my family it's okay I'm sorry" is from his cousins suicide note😢

"I used to shine now I'm all in the dark." I love this verse because of how powerful it is

I haven’t listened to this song in awhile and I’m happy I did I’ve attempted suicide twice in my life the 2nd time was about 2 months ago and I’m happy I got help that day instead of doing anything and I’ll never try it again I’ve opened up to my family more and things are better and I don’t ever want to hurt them like that again.

Idk when this will be elevated to one of the most respected songs, but it will.

I know that when you cry out for help it can feel like nobody really cares, or like they're saying they do just to shut you up or change the topic. Pain is temporary but death is permanent. Don't throw away everything that you could be. Please, get professional help for your loved ones and for yourself. You deserve to be happy.

The first time I heard this was a few days after my 15yr old nephew committed suicide by shooting himself. I couldn’t listen to this or watch the video for like a year. If you’re reading this and feel this way, I am asking you to please wait. Life changes on a dime. What is bad today may not even be a thing next year at this time. And how you feel about things, how you deal with things changes as you grow. What you felt or feel at 15 will be worlds away from what you can handle and feel at 25 which is again worlds away from how things are at even 30. I can guarantee, though, that losing you at anytime will devastate someone. Maybe you don’t realize it, but there is always someone who cares.
