I used to mistake that part for a synthesizer, but it’s actually HIS VOICE!! I wish that part was highlighted more! It’s so easy to miss it, and he deserves some serious credit for his range!!

Back in the early 70’s I had to travel and live in California for several months because my first born son at age two, had to have a difficult heart surgery. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Steve and friends while going through this difficult time. My son did pass away, but Steve the sweet man that he was, helped me through it.

Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’ from 1979. You’ll love it.

Lots of bands in the 80's that died on the altar of ridiculous popularity. They got played into the turf. Journey, Styx and REO Speedwagon to name a few. People got fatigued listening to them but then you go back and realize why they were played so much!

Exactly. I saw Journey, Styx and Pat Travers on the same day at the Superbowl of Rock a million years ago. Steve Perry is one of those rare people who sounds exactly the same on stage as he does in the studio.

Styx was the first concert I ever went to, on their "Pieces of Eight" tour. Saw them a few years ago at a state fair with REO. Still cranking out the jams after all those years. Got to see Journey live too, but not with Steve.

Journey really didn't get pounded into us, I would see the Separate Ways video once in a while, maybe a couple others. That's it. Not sure where the rap came from, the myth that all they did was cheesy love ballads maybe? Even those are good songs.

To have seen them in concert.... those feelings are still strong... he was truly an unmatched voice... I swear we floated home on a cloud of awe of his voice after the concert

Did you catch how long the note Steve holds was around the 5 minute mark? It's easy to miss if you're just listening. I didn't realize it till I watched the video. And then he just goes right back to singing. It's like he doesn't even have to breathe. Love me some Journey with Steve singing lead!!!

Funny he said that, it seemed like everyone took them for granted back in the day. Probably due to the fact they had an endless string of hit songs and there was never not a Journey song in radio rotation. It was just a given that there was always a Journey song being played regularly on the radio.

Basically anything from the "Infinity" "Evolution" and "Departure" albums are a must listen. You can find them here on KZread. "Captured" was a live album with many of these songs on it. Some sound even better with SP singing live! Also check out Steve's solo song; "Strung Out" and "Don't Fight It" a Kenny Loggins song he sings on. Also check out Neal Schon's (Journey guitarist) song; "No More Lies" you have to watch the video. Check out Neil's "Mom jeans" they are almost pulled up to his nipples! Ha! Dee Lawson When I bought my tickets for a Spring 1983 concert... I had never heard of the opening act, somebody called Bryan Adams... by the time the concert date came, the new guy had 2 #1 songs. A nice bonus for the Journey show! What a show!

Steve Perry is great. I rocked out to them on concert twice and I was in amazement of his voice both times. This is 1 band that is just as great in concert as on the album.

Steve has an awesome voice, love Journey, i have a few of they albums and i have this song, one of my faves too, So i'm definitely singing along. Other fave songs of mine of Journey's are "Separate Ways", "Who's Crying Now" & "Open Arms" 😎👌🎶❤🎸

This song means alot to me, I was literally on my death bed, not caring if I lived or died and one of the nurses snuck a radio on the ward ( ICU) this song came on the part where Sreve vocals went extremely high it caught my attention and I had to know who it was, I began fighting back. Needless to say I lived and finally got to Journeys concert, It has been over 40 years that have always stood by Perry and always will.The guitar solo is showing Steves vocal powers.

He has one of those unique voices, no mistaking it for anyone else! Yes, your generation has always had the benefit of high quality audio and video. We used to tape songs off the radio by putting the tape recorder next to the radio and hoping Mom didn’t walk into the room and spoil it, or the stupid DJ would talk though the first part!

Here in Los Angeles, the AM radio DJ's ALWAYS talked over the intro. There was a contest among them to see who could get the closest to just before the words started, like to prove who knew the song the best. Geesh! KHJ, the real Don steel and KRLA, Humble Harv (was convicted of murder or something crazy, iirc). Only the FM stations would play entire albums without interruption. Like KLOS, but not KEARTH 101.

Steve Perry is just a PERFECT singer!!! I've been a long time fan of his and Classic Journey. Even though I love this version you should really react to the live in Houston, Tx version!! I went to many concerts in the mid to late 70's. Watched Journey twice in outdoor stadium shows. They were fantastic. Real musicians, real professionals and their live performances were as good or better than studio.

There aren’t too many out there like Steve Perry! Please, please, please review Send Her My Love! I am 51 years old and my eyes still water with emotion every time I hear that song. It is absolutely beautiful! And yes there is an official video with concert footage on KZread!

You know a great voice when you hear it! Steve has that mournful cry in his voice.

Separate ways is a great song, and a bit faster.

That amazing, amazing high note at 4:45 that blends with the guitar.

Anytime is one of my favorites from Journey. I love listening to Journey in the summertime. It's great to have on your road trip playlist.

Omg my fav journey song! Saw them three times back in the 80’s and they are one of those bands that never ever disappoint!

A little late reacting to this. But, you can never be late for Journey music. Its such a joy to see you smiling to our year of music. I am a senior now and listened to many many performers and grenes of music. You've done well for yourself, keep it up. A continuous follower. 🫶🎶🎤🎧🎵🔥💯

The guy playing the piano is Greg Rolie and the lead guitarist with the afro is Neil Schon. Both of them were formerly with Santana before they joined Journey. Greg sang the song titled "Black Magic Woman" when he was with Santana in 1970 and it made it all the way to number 3 on the billboard charts. It was played on the radio for years afterwards. Interestingly, the song was originally written by Peter Green, one of the original members of Fleetwood Mac in 1968 and Santana released it as their first single from their album Abraxas. I thought I'd share this bit of history behind the band, especially since Greg Rolie does sing a good portion of Wheel In The Sky.

Jayvee - Try a back-to-back pair of songs; Feeling That Way/Anytime. The are always played one after the other, with only a 1 second break, on radio. They showcase Journey's other great singer, keyboardist Greg Rollie, together with Steve. Rollie is extremely underrated as singer - as one might expect when you are in band with Steve Perry, but he has pipes, having been the lead singer on many of Santana's songs, including Black Magic Woman. Go for the live performance on the Midnight Special (1978)

Steve Perry is the GOAT. Gorgeous tone, flawless technique and he puts so much FEELING into every song. The only countertenor I've ever heard who doesn't sound like a girl.

Steves voice never disappoints! He recently came back at 70 and still rocks it! React to " We're still here".

Takes me back to 1979 and one of the best concerts I was ever lucky enough to go to. Tickets were so hard to get. You had to go to the box office and buy them. No phone orders, no computers. We drove 2 hours to get the tickets. Then drove it again to see the concert. Watching KZread brings it back to me

Wheel In The Sky is great LIVE IN 1980. This studio version is from the incredible album, Infinity. Ih and just to pitch something these guys an incredible great deep cut from the album that came after Infinity. The album, EVOLUTION. THE SONG: SWEET AND SIMPLE Steve's vocals are "stop you in your tracks" great. No kidding bro. AMAZING!!!

Journey......saw them live 4 times...never disappointed in the 80’s....every concert was good😂😂😂🎼🎶😎Mother Father( Escape album) Live that entire album is musicians going in every song. Early Journey albums Infinity and Departure are worth a listen too. Have fun with these guys, and yes....turn it up.

I might have said this in another vid...but...I think it's really odd to watch someone reacting to a song. I watch no others...but there's something about watching YOUR reaction to songs I grew up with. Steve Perry has been nicknamed the Voice for his range and tone. I fell in love with his voice when I was 12 and 41 years later it is still like musical Xanax to me. I hear it and my day is brighter, my nerves loosen and I feel 1000 pounds lighter. Arnel, Journey's current lead, sorry, is no comparison. He grates on my nerves. I thank the stars that of the 3 greats; Freddy Mercury, David Bowie and Steve Perry, that Steve is still with us and very healthy.

This Band had a "champions pedigree", Neil Schon joined Santana @ 17yrs old after turning down a gig with Derek And The Domino's, Gregg Rolle joined Santana @ 18yrs old and was lead singer on the classic hits, also ripped on the keyboards @ Woodstock, Ross Valory was in The Steve Miller Band , Aynsley Dunbar had already played with Zappa! (and everyone else!)
