Make no mistake, Ace, you're watching a live performance, but the audio is the studio version dubbed over for the "official video." Record companies often do that on live performances because that's the product they're selling, albums and records. But you see, a band like Journey, like many 70s bands, perfected their songs on stage, then took them into the studio to record. That's why Steve's voice with guitar isn't up front or the same volume as the guitar solo, it was mixed like that too blend more and not stand out. Speaking of standing out, Steve Perry, like most front men, did dress differently than the rest of the band because they were out front representing the group.

It's so strange. We had to wait to hear these songs on the radio or buy the record. This song was released in 1978, 46 years ago. I feel like an antique. But I'm glad this beautiful, epic music is still being heard. Thanks Ace.

I know........soo different. Music comes to folks so easily these days. Maybe makes it less valued, appreciated.

Well I’m 55 years old now but in my 20’s I saw more live shows than I can remember..saw Journey three times, their first three tours, and paid $10 the first time, $12 the second time and $18 the third time. Their shows were over two hours long and Journey was beyond fantastic live! If Steve Perry was still with them I’d pay big bucks to see them again. You’re right about the money now. It’s all a big money grab cuz these performers today don’t just sing and play. It’s all kinds of crazy stage tricks and wardrobe changes etc. In my opinion if an artist or band is truly talented then they don’t need all that fancy stage crap. Most real fans don’t care about that junk anyway. They just want to see/hear their favorite songs. In the 80’s I saw many big names in music and never paid more than thirty bucks or so and these shows were awesome! Sadly that’s a bygone era in music that’s just gone forever I’m sure! Thanks for keeping classic music alive! And yes….Back then Steve could and did hold that note that long like it was nothing!

Love it when reactors suddenly realize that it's Steve's voice along with the guitar. Lol

Another singer who did that well was Brad Delp with Boston. It was hard to tell where he left off and the guitar took over. You had to watch them do More Than A Feeling live to realize just how skilled he was.

I always considered it great that a band appreciated their fans enough to dress for the occasion. After all the fans are paying to see these guys.

You will not go wrong with this band. I know alot of reactors have done it but, even if you look at the 1981 Escape Tour Live "Who's Crying Now" or "Send Her My Love" you won't miss. Spoiler Alert, they sound exactly the same Live as in the Studio. Maybe better.

Congratulations for catching Steve Perry singing during the guitar solo! Most people miss it and just think it's coming from the guitar. His voice is one of a kind. You should check out 1980 in Japan Lights and Stay Awhile, played together.

When he was interviewed for the book The Singer's Voice, Steve Perry said his voice was like steel when singing with Journey. So you were absolutely right!

This is the studio version. Music videos were new -MTV didn’t even exist yet-, so no one really knew what a music video should be. Anyway, if you want to hear another great tune from the same album, listen to Winds of March.

This younger generation just CANNOT understand our music from back then. It's not just the music, it was the events, the atmosphere, the cultures, life. You can't really comprehend..... unless you lived it... and Yes, that was his voice...something not seen these days. it was about talent,,,, not masked by technology

If you watch the live version on The Midnight Special, Steve's high notes on the guitar solo is sooo much clearer. kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5uZrJNukdjJlMY.html&pp=ygUqam91cm5leSB3aGVlbCBpbiB0aGUgc2t5IG1pZG5pZ2h0IHNwZWNpYWwg
