Diaphragmatic support, vowel modifications, pitch, tone, range, continuous phrase singing, and so so much more. Perry is unmatched as the most technically sound vocalist to date. Any vocal coach worth their salt would agree, and the vast vast majority do.

@@felixatkinson1826 Hey Felix. We all have our favorites for sure, and I do like Plant as well. As good as Plant is, however, he is no Steve Perry in terms of vocal technical skill. Vocal pitch, range, diaphragmatic support, continuous phrase singing, vowel placement, vowel modifications, open throat singing, emotive singing, etc. Perry has it all. There is certainly a difference between simply "liking" a singer and actually breaking down their vocal abilities. You would be hard pressed to find disagreement with this with any vocal coach out there. There is a specific reason why Steve Perry is referred to as "The Voice", and Robert Plant is well, Robert Plant. Plant is definitely in the tops for sure though in a lot of categories. Happy listening!

I thought Steve Augeri was an awesome fill the gap, saw him 3 times, and Arnel 2-3 times, OMG, what a magical fit Arnel was. Neal Schonn is so underrated in music talent and the business side of music.

You have great parents. My son is 26 & was raised on all this amazing music. I am blown away at all the young people that have never even heard of Journey or so many other amazing bands. I was determined my kid knew good music. I blame the parents for not exposing their kids to real music. So glad to hear your parents did it right.

PenguinOntheRoad :D I think of them as a mediocre cover / tribute band. They lost the soul as much as the voice. I was lucky enough to see them in 84 or so. It was the “original” Steve Perry version. God, was that a show!

@@tilesetter1953 - I was just wondering why that was. I actually prefer the slower version. I just assumed faster was harder because you had to get so many words in such a short period of time. I used to sing in a choir and holding the note longer was easier for me.. but then I am not in concert bouncing around. lol. Thanks for the explanation.

What a gifted voice! Could u imagine if he was unheard of? Never joined a band? In the universe, what are the odds that Steve Perry and Neil Schon found each other. Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, I'll even go out on a limb, Axl and Slash....so many others....sometimes it blows my mind how these people find each other and make the greatest songs that we all know and love.

it wasnt odds or fate, Journey did 3 albums before Steve Perry joined that didnt sell very well, and management said this is your new singer, they didnt even want him at first, then when they started selling millions of albums, Steve kicked out Steve Smith and ross Vallory because they didnt sound 80s enough. Its not all magic and happiness !
