I'm a Tennessee fan but I do agree with one of the comments here. Bama was already a huge brand when Saban took over. Everyone knows about Bear Bryant and Bama. They had been down bad for a long time but they were still a huge brand. Georgia, not so much. Also, Kirby wasn't nearly as visible when he took over Georgia as Saban was when he took over Bama.

@@dare2554 This "UGA fan only" statement is simply not correct. Anybody with half a brain knows that the Bama defensive scheme and execution under Coach Saban was entirely his defense. It was ran exactly how he wanted to run it regardless of who the DC was. The last DC under Coach Saban, Kevin Steele said that exact same thing to the press last season. If you ask Smart I am sure he will say the same thing. That is beyond questioning from anyone who knows Nick Saban. Saban was totally in charge of the Bama defense as he was with the entire team. Saban won his first NC at LSU without Smart. Saban won two NCs at Bama after Smart left for UGA. By the way the same amount of NCs that Smart has won at UGA. Not to mention Saban beat Smart in the SEC Championship game the last time Bama and UGA played. If your premise was correct them Kirby Smart would not have been 1 win and 5 loses at UGA when he played Saban and Bama.

The takeaway here, Kirby ain't Saban and UGA ain't Alabama. If you want Bama recognition do Bama things over the lifetime of your program. Saban is the GOAT but it didn't start with him. Young people who think you know, look up Gene Stallings, Bear Bryant, Frank Thomas and Wallace Wade. And if you want to say Bama inflates their numbers as far as national championships, fine. Look at just the unanimous ones. Or just the SEC Titles, no subjectivity in either of those. No one else is close. There is a reason Bama is hated, it's envy and frustration because every other team, alumnus or fan knows their program can't achieve what Bama has. Maybe they can over a short period but the Tide always rises, just as it did after low tide years of 1997-2007. RTR!

Let me tell you why this comment sounds so disingenuous to Bama fans. UGA football has gone about a decades long project of trying to replicate everything that made our program successful during the Saban era - stealing coaches, staff, scheme, program structure, recruiting strategy - everything. All the evidence suggests that UGA has been trying to become Bama for years. And the real reason they are constantly favored and given the benefit of the doubt in the offseason is because they look like a Saban-Era Bama photocopy. There’s nothing unique about it. For years now, we’ve watched y’all talk about “replacing Bama”. “The process”, becoming the “standard”, avoiding “rat poision” etc. This is all Saban era Bama terminology that indicates to us that yall have been paying attention and mimicking. Hell the UGA guy that asked the question in Pate’s video was mad that UGA isn’t getting covered the same way Bama was. Why do you think that is? Because y’all want to be us so damn bad and it’s obvious to everyone outside of Athens. At the end of the day though, we know that all you’ve really done is create a “Great Value” version of the real thing. Unfortunately for you all, real can’t be replicated. The new Bama is just going to have to beat the past version of itself.

Saban took over a 6-7 team and made it a dominator in two seasons and kept it there. Kirby took over a team that had been a 10+ win/season team from a successful coach and stayed at that level. Saban challenged the press eloquently about team matters and matters about the whole sport...then was proven correct. Kirby so far has kept to his lane in remarks to the press. Saban challenged/criticized the NCAA about how the game was changing; then changed how he coached and still won championships. Kirby is still winning championships the way he one the first one. Saban won champioships with a revolving door on quarterbacks, coaches, coordinators, ADs and Strength and Conditioning Coaches. Kirby is doing that, but it hasn't been as obvious. Saban dealt with disciplining his players with a tough love that often meant keeping them on the team while they straightened up. Kirby is often described as mean and holding a grudge by former players.

Georgia just started taking their football program seriously in 2016. We lived off talent of the kids in this great state and had some really good players. Kirby made the university and the state go ALL IN ON FOOTBALL. That was not the case prior to Kirby and we all know it. Kirby took Georgia to an entirely new level. Alabama college football has been bigger than religion since bear Bryant. I used to hate Bama that was until I really started paying attention to Saban and their football program and once I did that it was nothing but respect. Can’t wait to play them this year. Win or lose Bama is my favorite team to play because I know the Dawgs are playing the very best. Go Dawgs!

You make an interesting point about Nick Saban dominating like no one else had. Yeah, there were dynasties before, but I remember in the early 2000s people used to say that no one was ever going to dominate college football again. Bear Bryant took advantage of recruiting loopholes, used an approach with players you just cant do anymore, basically all the same stuff people said of Saban. Especially once people like Paterno and Bowden started falling from the mountain top, it was said that no one would ever stay at one place forever and build a dynasty like coaches had done in the past. But then Saban went and did just that, and now people are saying it will never happen again. But, all it's going to take is for someone else to crack the code and devise a sure fire winning formula in this new age of college football. College football is cyclical.

No one in Alabama sees next season’s schedule as anything different than what we’ve always had, Georgia on the other hand can’t stop talking about how hard their schedule is.. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ Let’s see, how fresh they are for the SEC Championship game this time around, it might make them better/tougher, but One thing is for sure, the 10-2 2022 team would have beat Georgia had we been allowed in the playoffs that season.

If Georgia had beaten Alabama in the SEC Championship Game last year and then Saban announced his retirement, that would've been the torch passing moment that Josh was talking about. But because Alabama won, it never really happened. Weirdly, Alabama underperforming in 2022 and not playing Georgia in the SECCG actually helped them because it didn't give Georgia another opportunity to beat them. I also think Nick Saban's Alabama program already being the entity of what they were when Kirby started at UGA made it hard for Georgia to get more media attention. Because Saban is now gone, I think Kirby will get more media attention, provided he continues winning of course.

As a UGA fan, I blame the University of GA. I'm old enough to remember conversations from coaches like Goff, Donnan, and others inside the organization, plus ppl I've meet through the years at UGA with better connections than me about how the UGA "powers" were not as serious about football as other schools. In short, UGA was more interested in becoming the "Harvard" of the south rather than a football power! UGA football was crippled for a long time. Towards the end of the Richt era certain boosters finally got a crack in the UGA armor they needed to influence changes within the organization. You are seeing the product of that change now! Forget about what UGA was!!! Look at what they are now! Because some of the ppl that fought the changes have seen the benefits and now fully embrace the change. Forget about the past, this a different machine now! And you see what UGA should've always been and it's just warming up! Everything a program needs to be a powerhouse is right here in GA.....the Heart of the South. GA is not a "fly over" state like Bama, it's the central hub of the south! But, think Mark Richt for this, it was he who died on the hill fighting. The same hill Kirby got to START from!

The UGA program doesn't have as many titles as Alabama but Kirby did surpass Saban in a couple categories like consecutive wins and consecutive undefeated seasons. In the last three years UGA's record is way better than Alabama's. Two nattys and an sec crown as opposed to Alabama's two sec titles and zero nattys. People hated Alabama because they played thug ball and it felt like every game they had the refs in their pocket. Their play vs Texas in Texas was thug ball on display. There is a video where Sabin is telling his players to "cut that shit out" because they started doing the horns down sign to the Texas players which is ironic because that was one of the Alabama games that the refs gave them. With all that, Saban is admired for his accomplishments. Kirby is on track to surpass his record.
