It's no different than any other sport. Michael Jordan, as example. You're either driven to excel like Kerr and Pippen or you aren't like those who left Chicago/Wizards. Seeing a teammate play with a lot of passion will either drive you to be better or cause chaos in a locker room. ..and no, he wasn't traded for his behavior. The Cubs drafted, but he didn't see the majors and was traded to the A's where he would. The A', however, were out to secure long term sustainability and sought to trade, thus the Blue Jays pursued the up and coming Donaldson who moved from Catcher to 3B prior to his final season with the A's. Donaldson was traded for 4 or 5 players in kind. His MVP Season in Toronto kicked off after losing his salary arbitration case against Toronto and went on to have arguably the best season for any player in Blue Jay history (which is rather crazy considering they won b2b world series with like 5 hall of famers in that line up). 2016. Donaldson and the Jays once again have salary arbitration issues. Ended up with like a 29m 2 year contract. 16/17 seasons he was hit with injuries, but thrived in the playoffs versus Texas. 2018 he was diagnosed with Dead Arm Syndrome. After being put as a DH only to get injured again, he was traded late August to the Indians. Another injury, he didn't return until September then wasn't resigned. However the Braves did. He had another great season, but the Braves wanted to clear salary, and so the Twins grabbed him from free agency. Literally *nothing* to do with his behavior.
@NCA_Azzy

@Sierra Nevada Not even remotely what I did. Trash Talk and having a "tantrum" are two different concepts that I'm not even comparing. Your failure at literacy is neither my problem nor gives you any "credit". I only, factually mind you, pointed our exactly *why* he was traded which had nothing to do with having, as you say, tantrums.
Now that he's a Yankee, I think he could offer some emotion to get other players more motivated. This is something Rodger Clemens and Paul O'Neill and Jorge Posada offered the Yankees and gave the team some life instead of just being milktoast.
