That's a converted model 1859 or 1863. You can see the difference to the later cartridge models at the close look on the lock. It still has the primer magazine. On these early cartridge models they only changed the hammer, the breechblock and took out the now unnecessary parts of the primer. The models that were used by the US Army at this time used a .54 rimfire cartridge. Later they took the .50/70.

Actor William O'Connell. He played the barber in _High Plains Drifter_ (not Hang 'Em High). He is 89.
One of my favorite scenes of the film. Love how that Ferry guy sings the Dixie song in Josey and the kids presence but sings the battle hyme of the republic to the northerners minutes later 😂😂😂

Willow Lawn was it?
I didn't quite understand it as a kid when I saw it at the theater, but it is a classic. The snake oil salesman, the kid, the Indian, Josey..... a true cast of characters.

I first saw this movie on an overseas Marine Corps base when I was ten years old. It’s been one of my favorites ever since. The Marines would get the latest movies from the States and show them to the civilians ever Friday night. I got my picture taken with Clint Eastwood when I was about six or seven, I was already a huge fan

@@tudyk21 You young buck, I saw it at The Catlow Theater in Barrington Illinois with my friend Greg Cavalier. The theater is still there, it has to be a 100 years old with incredible woodwork. It appears the owner might need help keeping it afloat, though. Sad if something happens to it.

Clint in his prime. The famous Missouri boat ride!
"You can pay me when you see me again Mr Josey Wales ".. lol
Love how the scene goes from incredibly tense as we wonder what he will do to a dismissive remark to the carpet bagger the Missura boat ride then the banjo starts playing Dixie and the comedy of the horses falling in. Sweet relief to the audience. Great movie making.
One of the best westerns ever made
Clint was really good. He made the characters real and true
Whupped 'em again, boy! One of the best scenes from one of the best westerns ever made.

Funniest scene in the movie. I still love the Sharps rifle that was used by Clint Eastwood. You can see that's a converted percussion model 1859 or 1863.
The Missouri boat ride, love it!
Singing one song till half way across river always cracked me up lol!
Man I love this film. Can never get bored watching it.
This movie is KING of the one-liners
My favorite scene! Captain, I advise you to turn back. Alternative: Missouri boat ride.
"Dying aint much of a living boy" Clint has always been king of the one liners

Excellent advice. Too bad the arrogant "Captain Red Legs" didn't take it. He paid a heavy price for not doing so. Serves him right.
“It’ll do just about anything will it? How is it on stains?”
CLINT E! Best ever Western actor! Thanks. John P.
I love this movie!!
THE BEST DAM WESTERN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
All ya needed was to sing “Look away, look away Dixie Land” and you’d be livin like The Outlaw Josey Wales! ✌🏽🇺🇸🙏
Anyone who loves this movie needs to read the book. And the sequel. Clint bought the rights to the sequel, "The Vengeance Trail of Josie Wales", and was supposed to make a movie of it as well. Never happened, unfortunately, as the story is just as good. Highly recommend reading it.

Gotta love the old Sharps. During the Civil War so many new cartridge and rifle designs were patented.
I just love this scene! ♥️
Best film made for years
Emuel stills the scene!
I miss TBS Clint Eastwood marathon every Thanksgiving
Just love it. Got to love it.
I may have to watch this again..
Best scene ever.
pull emuel pull, haewwwahja
You gonna draw them pistols or are you gonna whistle Dixie ,good cowboy movie
Love it
When ol' captain Terrell said " at best he'll do is get two or three up front at picking em' off one by one" if i was up front, i'd say then you come up front here our fearless leader.
Best movie.
I like the Missouri boat ride!
Outside the spaghetti westerns this is one of his best
It's realistic when they said he could only get a couple up front. If this movie was made today Josey would fire his rifle and kill them all in rapid fire succession.
Lol we call it "missour boat ride & music 🎶 with it perfect 🤣
I Do Love Clint Eastwood... True American

And that river is swift deep and cold
This film has every type of character, its like a look back in time to how the West really was 👍
CLASSIC!
Love the song and the movie
I have got this movie DVD as it is my favourite Clint Eastwood movie DVD of the late Sondra Locke and John Vernon in The Outlaw Josey Wales I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxx
Yes I love whn Clint did it
A fine film.
