Joseph Stalin is one of the most colorful figures in world history. He was the leader of the Soviet Union for 30 years in the first half of the 20th century.

Born into a poor Georgian family, Joseph Stalin went to a church school, where he gained his education. There, alongside being a troublesome youngster, Stalin started reading pro-revolutionary novels and Karl Marx’s books, which prompted his later political career.
Stalin was in charge of organizing worker strikes and find fundings for his cause in Georgia. Once, he managed to rob a bank during the day and run off with around 4 million dollars in today’s money.
Later, when Stalin met Lenin and became part of the Bolsheviks, he ran the party newspaper Pravda and would often get caught during his illegal activities. He wasn't drafted for the WWI due to an arm injury.
After Red October and the fall of the Russian Empire, Stalin was left in charge of the new Soviet Republic, together with Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky.
Lenin’s health deteriorated and he passed away, leaving Stalin in charge. Stalin took absolute power and soon started going after anyone who would even remotely oppose him - he commenced his infamous Great Purge.
Over a million people were killed and many more sent to prison. 90% of the army’s generals, 80% of its colonels and well over half its corps commanders were all purged.
With the rise of Nazism and the beginning of WWII, Stalin struck a pact of non-aggression with Germany, since he couldn’t make an agreement with the British. The Soviets and the Germans together entered Poland, but Stalin neglected warnings that Germany would attack them.
Once that happened, the Soviets were unprepared and suffered the heaviest losses in the war. Four years later, they managed to halt German advancements, and push them back, while their capture of Berlin marked the end of WWII in Europe.
After a brief period of time when the new world superpowers got along, the Soviets and the U.S. started spreading their influence across the world. The tensions grew and the Iron Curtain was formed.
Stalin’s health was waning and he was found dead in his office at the age of 74. During his funeral, the crowd was so huge that hundreds of people lost their lives.

@@sc0rps63 Yes, conquered them just like any medieval empires and introduced questionable applications such as taking children and training them to be the most elite standing army of the time also allowing them to be statesmen and governors after their service. They also allowed people of different religion and culture to live together granted the taxes for this increased to harsh levels towards the end of the empire. Their rule was much worse towards the end and there were several bad events however when I look at the Balkans today, I can clearly see that every society there has kept their culture, language and religion. Only reason for that is Ottoman tolerance. Considering five hundred years under the empire, I would say they came out alright compared to Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, Native Americans also Jews who were hunted for merely existing in Europe not to forget the disappearance of Turkic peoples under Imperial and Soviet Russian lands. Their worst crime was killing the Armenians who were glorified as "The Loyal People" by the Ottomans for a long time. Even considering that terrible event was not done by Ottoman authorities but by the new so called Young Turks especially Enver Pasha and Talat Pasha who orchestrated this event to discredit the Sultan and abdicate him to seize power. In the end there is still an Armenian nation today. Simply looking at the numbers of dead people under the newly formed Soviet Union under Lenin and Stalin, the horrendous self inflicted deaths through starvation are enough to surpass the evilness of old empires be it Romans, Eastern Romans, Ottomans, Chinese,Persians and I daresay Americans.

Good Boy Tresure the AK-47 was invented in 1947, 8 years after the winter war. Around then the USSR was mainly using Mosins and Ppsh-41’s.

Actually Stalin wasn’t found dead in his room. He was still alive by that point. He died a few days later. It is interesting to note, he would not let anyone enter his room uninvited. So when he collapsed from a stroke, no one went in to check on him, cause they didn’t want to enter his room uninvited which would get them sent to a gulag or shot. They eventually checked on him 3 days later. Perhaps had he not been paranoid to not let anyone enter uninvited he might had been found sooner. Unfortunately for Stalin, a year earlier he got rid of numerous Jewish doctors because he was paranoid they were plotting to kill him. Now, when he needed doctors, there were essentially none left to save him. He died as a result. As mentioned in the video, his paranoid purge of the Red Army backfired in the Winter War and German invasion of the Soviet Union. This paranoia was seen again in his purge of doctors which backfired. His paranoia got him in the end. Ironic.
