This is priceless. So grateful to have this treasure preserved. To this day Hot Tuna continue to thrill me. More and more all the time. First heard them open for It's A Beautiful Day and The Airplane in Anaheim, early 70's? 2nd time was with Leon Russell and Pink Floyd at UCSD Athletic Field. Same period. Still get chills at this literally timeless music. Especially ACOUSTIC.

I have been a Tuna fan for almost 50 years! Seen numerous acoustic and electric shows! I must say Jorma was really in top form this show! Incredible guitarist, for sure!🎸😇
I'm 65 years old and I'm still in love with Hot tuna!!!!!!!!!!
Tears running down my face. Saw this show with my first and only love ever. J.l.R Richie c.
Jorma K. is a monument in guitar fingerstyle picking technique and a great composer, arranger and vocal interpret of that kind of music.

Amazing concert, I can truly feel Jorma's stage presence throughout the whole show. This era in Jorma's musical saga is truly underrated, he produced some very defining sound, Ovation sound or not, haha. Thank you for preserving this musical treasure, Jorma's a gem among musicians for sure.
Saw this and many other Jorma acoustic shows. Watching this transformed me to another place and time that I treasure forever!

Jorma was beautiful!! Besides his massive talent that endures to this day!
SO GOOD!
I just like Jorma to the max.
I've loved Jorma and acoustic Hot Tuna especially since the first time I heard it in 1986. Finally got to see them at Fur Peace Ranch in May my first show since reopening which was an absolute gift. This archival footage is interesting to see him play the Ovation plugged in with chorus, phaser or flanger effects there or whatever that is. Simply wonderful. I always felt like an acoustic Jorma/Hot Tuna show was like going to church minus the Sunday morning arguments with my mother over why did I have to go to church plus more of the sense of awe that a religious experience can elicit :)
So many good shows at the capital
I was at this show! Hot damn!
sheer genius. wonderful. special. unique. love him to bits
Thanks...on fire
Fin des années 70, je découvre grâce à des potes musiciens, toute une série de guitaristes dont JK, et ma vie en a été bouleversée à jamais...
Wow, I had no idea that Jorma was this amazing.. I love his style of guitar playing!

then you may want to check out John Fahey and Leo Kottke The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death is a pretty cool album to start with
How did I get to 45, and considering I have pretty eclectic taste, and not hear of this artist before??? I watched the Johnny Depp film Transcendence the other night and heard the track Genesis and have just fallen in love with his music since. Mesmerizing and beautiful music.

It's very simple how you missed him. You weren't even alive during his heyday with Jefferson Airplane and you were a baby when his popularity with Hot Tuna peaked with the Burgers album in '72- '73. Been a niche type since then. Those were great times with the Airplane.
Just saw Jorma and Jack Cassidy last month in a small theater in Randolph Vermont. It was amazing.
Haha love this . Saw so many of these shows and I love that ovation sound. It's all part of what that was. Thanks man. This is great
Loved him in Hot Tuna as well
This video is from Nov 1979. The "Jorma / Steeler" Electric Duo shows with "Happy Go Lucky Space Rats" (no bass-player) was one year earlier, Nov 1978. Shows in Passaic NJ, Commack LI and Palladium 14th St, NYC. Rock on Jorma.

I have seen Jorma at the Palladium(Academy of Music) in NYC many times! Often both the early and late shows the same evening.Great venue! Reminds me of Carnegie Hall. Loved that place, saw many a band there.
That iconic Ovation-through-phaser was heard in all the Bay Area coffee houses. History now...
I saw Jorma at Old Waldorf in august 78 , he played electric too with a drum , merci Jam

Deffently good stuff
Wow man! What a lucky find. Capital Th video taped so many great shows. The Van Morrison one is outstanding. Jorma is such an important and influential figure in the history of acoustic fingersyle guitar. So grounded in the tradition, but totally original. He continues to teach at age 74 at his guitar camp. This video is pretty important. Other than this, mostly what we have are the instructional DVDs he recorded for Homespun in the 90s. Which are outstanding. LEarning one on on from the man himself. Ovations were a necessary evil back in the 70s. Only acoustics that could be amplified Heart used them. Even Cat Stevens……The excessive flanger on his guitar sound does not exactly help. But he is playing a cross between acoustic and electric.

gtrrobster Jorma was my Mom, Marcia Moore's guitar teacher at Dana Morgan's Music Shop in Palo Alto in the early sixties. He went by Jerry Kaukonen at the time; before he co-founded the Jefferson Airplane. Jerry Garcia was Mom's banjo teacher for a few lessons at Dana's around the same time. She performed at The Tangent Club at the corner of University Ave and Alma St. regularly; as well as playing lead roles in many musicals at Palo Alto Community Theater. It is great to see all of the wonderful performances of Jorma solo and ESP. with Hot Tuna partner, bassist extraordinaire, Jack Casady. Mom, ya gotta get back out there; at 84 you're just getting started!!!
What? only 290 likes?... WIth or without Dr. Jackyll Jorma is pure music.... Magician! Living Legend! One of the best sets I've seen... Thanks so much for sharing this treasure with us!

Real music
He makes that Ovation guitar sound celestially grand.
"Going Down" is actually "Killing Time in the Crystal City" and "Volunteers" is the encore from the electric set billed as Jorma and White Gland (this isn't the "Full Concert", but it's the full acoustic set, with a snippet of the electric set).

I saw Jorma two years later with Vidal Parts. Very weird seeing these guys trying to fit into the landscape of the times. I kind wished Jorma stuck with this sound(Lots of effects BUT clean). People probably think I nuts(with feeling this time)but I like the tone he's getting at this show. Reminds me of later John Fahey minus the trains.
