It's unbelievable how Komova, clearly superior to Wieber, still loses first place. I didn't understand their score on the beam. It seems to me that they had equal difficulty scores, but the scores are very discrepant. Wieber did well, despite her atrocious form. But I didn't see any big mistakes about Komova. Poor girl.

Komova had numerous wobbles, but gloriously beautiful form. Weiber had one small mistake, but inferior form.

Its the scoring system. Its about difficulty vs execution. Some athletes have enough difficulty in order to afford an execution mistake

Thanks! Great work putting together the comparisons _and_ using the high quality videos. Maybe you could do for other finals as well, like Hurd vs Black (2017), Melnikova vs Leanne (2021) or Andrade vs Jones (2022)? Sadly FIG never released the detailed scores from that final, so we can, at most, suppose the E-scores based on the possible D-scores given. For example, Wieber's vault received a higher execution than Komova's (9.216 vs 9.133), what seems unfair. I think Komova had a superior program, but had more visible mistakes on BB and FX and that summed with a little help from the judges for Wieber.

I like Komova overall when compared to Wieber, but when people say things like "underscored" or "robbed" without pointing out specific D or E scores based on the 2012 CoP, then their assessment has a lot less weight. Weiber's cumulative D score absorbed her big deductions on Bars. Komova had small errrors in Beam and Floor, but they were in aggregate pretty large and yielded a lot of deductions. Komova's overall atistry beats Wieber's hands down. However the 2012 CoP didnt weigh that as much in the E scores. So stop making empty statements without context. I think they were too lenient on Komova's wobbles on beam, which could've led to .2-.4 more in deductions. Wieber shouldve gotten .2-.3 more deductions on bars. They were a bit too harsh on the vault scores for both, about .1 each. Not sure if the outcome would change even with those discrepancies.

No. A world champion hasn't her legs fall off in her AA bars routine. And a world champion doesn't fall down the bars at the apparatus final. Komova has everything, the highest level in tumbling and the best in artistry. Wieber shows what she's able to do.

@@GoldForAnnayou’re just hating on wieber at this point, komova’s beam was shaky af which is why wieber was able to catch up to her, and then wieber had a pretty clean floor (apart from the 0.1 penalty for the step out), meanwhile komova’s landing all had deductions (some major). Yes komova blew her out of the water on bars, but Wieber blew her out of the water on Vault. Both are incredible athletes, which explains the results

I think why she scored so low is because the L-turn, front aerial, and wolf jump are supposed to be connected but she missed it which drops her difficulty, and she wobbled on all three skills in a row which affected the execution. Breaking connects costs more than people realize.

I forget how well both Weiber and Komova danced. While Komova has a more balletic style, Weiber is certainly a comfortable and competant dancer that uses good extension and body form. They both generally had control over their landings, and both used quite modern music (at the time) to get the speed needed for the very difficult tumbling. Komova was far better on bars (consistently) and Weiber had the stronger vault. Neither were particularly consistent on beam, which proved problematic in the end for them both. It was always who performed best on the day would win... this time, it was Weiber's.

Komovo baubles big time and at least four times on the beam. Jordan did not. From what I saw, Jordan deserved the win. On the her floor routine, Komovo did not land her second nor her last jump well, and she fell out of one of her turns. Yes Jordan stepped out of boundaries once, but her jumps were all clean, and her quadruple turn was flawless. Sorry, didn’t think the Russian was superior in any way in this competition.
