I used to write down my dreams every morning. Once I had started my memory of the dreams improved fast. Soon I was able to remember several dreams per night. It was interesting seeing how different elements were woven into a dream. I started to interact with my dreams. E.g. at some point, I had dreams of being chased by scary animals. Those dreams weren't just scary, they were fun too - like action movies. I wasn't going to run away anymore, I decided, but confront the animals and ask them what they want. Next time I was chased down a hill by a bear, I stopped, turned around. The bear stopped right in front of me. "What do you want?" He told me to watch over my eggs. I looked down and saw an easter nest of painted eggs, colorful and ornamental, right in front of me on the ground. As I looked up, the bear was gone; neither he nor any of the other animals ever returned. Later I started lucid dreaming. I never qite knew what to do with it, so I used it for flying. At some point I stopped writing down my dreams; I found it had become too time consuming. Gradually I stopped remembering them again. Now a remember a dream here and there. It was a fun experience.

@llriv I wrote them down by hand. I don't really know, but I doubt it would have made a difference; seems to me the important thing was to record them immediately, before I forgot them again, and, I guess, a general attitude of wanting to remember them.

@llriv Hope it works for you! I kept my journal next to my bed; writing down my dreams was the very first thing I did every morning.

I had a dream once of my father waking me up as if I was a child, but I woke up in the middle of a field while I was with the army. I woke up with tears in my eyes. It felt so real and I did not know what message he was trying to tell me. He passed away. Jordan peterson is right your ancestors communicate through your dreams.

... one night i dream of the dog of my ex (i liked that dog). The dream was one of sadness. I woke up crying because the dog was dead in my dream... my ex emailed me couple of days later telling me the dog was dead. Humans have a connection to the world that we are unaware of.

Jungian collective subconscious. The artist goes into the world experiences something that aint verbal and translate that feeling into a medium that mirrors other peoples experience of the similar thing. Why is sad music sad? Its a collective experience of sad and what that means so when we hear sad music we become sad because we have all get reminded of those experiences we had in the past even if they where not verbal. The music is just the trigger that makes us all remember what that feelt like. being an artist my self i know the most important factor of any peice of art is story. Each work i make needs to embody and tell one. Make people feel. Dreams do the same id wager. it shifts to your feelings to articulate that which you cant.

As an INTJ, I believe that dreams are the minds attempt to reconcile the present by combining it with past experience and knowledge. Where the present doesn't fit with the past, something new must be created. To create something new often requires a quest for new experiences and knowledge. Once created, retrieving the something new into consciousness results in that flash of insight. So the dream is usually an incomplete vision. If you are lucky it is near complete and you wake up and write it down.

More often than not, I've been able to trace back the imagery in my dreams to real life events...a great part of it would be from the recent past...old memories that form a part of my dream are generally ones that had invoked intense reactions or emotions at the time of the event...I'll just elaborate one of my recent dreams...START OF DREAM...I'm at this small restaurant opening a jar of pickle only to find out that it is full of live but pickled miniature cobras...I took one in my palm and it had it's hood up but ws facing away from me...it had some kind of a base to it...perhaps it's coils but it reminded me of the knight piece on a chess board and was as un threatening but I immediately dropped it on the floor...END OF DREAM....I could clearly track the origins of the dream...it ws a combination of 3 memories...one frm the previous night, another from 2-3 years ago and another one from more than 10 years ago...The night before, just a few minutes before going to bed, I was scrolling through my KZread wall and had seen a thumbnail of a cobra Video. (This perhaps triggered the dream)....then I remember seeing an actress on a news channel finding a baby cobra in her backyard and holding it in her palm, it had it's hood up but was facing away from her; this ws the memory from 2-3 yrs ago...and then there's this story a close friend of mine had told me more than 10 years ago....while in college, his brother had a friend from one of the north eastern states of India who had once bought a jar of snake pickle...that kinda stuck in my mind....so it's like I just took in these events, stored it in my mind and created a new scenario out of it...with me as the protagonist

Thank you for posting this video. As Peterson, (whom I respect) wants to find a rational explanation before accepting a spiritual one, I wonder how he would handle coming face to face with the demonic, like a person who is possessed. Organized evil exists, despite the tendency of most people to pretend that it does not. I continue to pray that JP receives direct revelation from God.

I honestly feel Dr. Peterson has had these encounters and finds himself more Christian than we realize. This is only my opinion from watching his videos, lectures and interviews. He keeps it professional, but you can tell he has deep opinions and feelings on God himself, but does not use his gift other than in the sphere of influence he has been blessed with. I venture to believe his lectures have brought many that were on the fence, at very least, to the Scriptures themselves where those many people could use their own freewill and personal experience and understanding to make the choice to "believe" themselves...that's just a personal perspective from a devoted follower. All due respect my opinion means very little. Great question and prayer though. I honestly pray the same my friend.

As a clinical psychologist, he’d probably be like, “wow, this person has a mental illness. They need help.” Just like he said in the video, there’s no reason to ascribe spirituality, or in this case “demons” to phenomena that can readily be explained empirically and rationally with biology. That’s bonkers.

OK, when it comes to dream symbolism, I have three that are recurring: extra rooms in my house underground facilities or storage areas Department stores. The three quite often mix together. Also, I rarely have a dream I'd class as nightmares. Horror dreams do happen, but I'm usually too entertained to want out. Like this one time there was an underground cave (of course) being researched by a science team. They let out something, along with torrents of blood from unadorned alcoves cut into the walls. These beings were invisible, but they turned the blood into a golden liquid. The dream ended when I (or my character) tried to crawl up one of the alcoves, but both ends of the torrent of blood started turning gold. "I" took an utility knife and dropped down on the creature below, which was now covered in gold blood.

I have for years had dreams about being lost in a place, always different,..a town, a city, a mountainous area, and I'm always try8ng to get back home. Can't find my car in the parking lot,..can't get the phone number of a taxi cab, etc. I always ask "which way is it to Seabrook" where I live. I understand the message,..it's about getting to my spiritual home, I believe. I also dream constantly about my beloved parents in different situations. Very painful at times but they persist regardless what I do in my "awake" time. I have been out of my body more times then I can count and have experienced the "Light" during meditation. Thoughts??

Have you noticed that you can have memories in your dreams, memories of things you see or may have done in the past but inside your dreams, which shows that our mind is capable of inventing memories that fit the context of the dream and at that moment when you are dreaming and you are in a certain place in your dream and you recollect a memory related to that place, a memory that never existed and that your mind created for that dream but at the moment of dreaming you are sure you had that experience in the past but inside the context of the dream! Now I wonder if when awake our memories are also an invention of our mind?

It's hard to say. You seem like a real thinker but you say things that I'm confident you haven't given much thought to. You jump between one's notions and Frauds notions and your clients. You are right, where does it come from. It just appears in my head is not a very sophisticated answer. So then where does it come from? 🤔 Who does it come from? Maybe if being a teacher as you clearly are you should think on this one maybe just a little bit more than what did others think... just saying.

All due respect I can't listen to this man,..he seems to just ramble on,..as one person said here "as if he is infatuated with his own words but can't really get to a point". or something like that. I came here for an answer and got a word salad that stopped me listening half way thru. My loss?,..maybe,.. but at 71 I want somebody to get to the point not just ramble on.
