Jordan Peterson says Pick up your Cross.

On February 14th is Ash Wednesday - it starts the beginning of Lent, where Catholics around the world will spend 40 days meditating on their cross, they will embrace it and kiss it, just as Christ kissed His Cross - They will do the meditation of The Stations of The Cross - they will examine every ounce of suffering that Christ put on his shoulders for the love of man and they will attempt to imitate Him, in their actions and in their hearts
The better way that Jordan Peterson is teaching is the way that has been taught for over 2,000 years in The Catholic Church.

Powerfull message. It helps to cope with suffering in a way no other message does. Pick up your cross and go up the hill. That is life folks. The temptation to throw it all away is everpresent, but if you do that, you agore into the ground and fall to the underworld as a consequence of the overwhelming suffering you claim to be bearing.

There might be some who "pick up their cross" and start their lifes. BUT There are many that "pick up that cross" and avoid life.

Your description is bothering me. Yes, as an ex-catholic (now agnostic), we did the stations of the cross. But they never taught us about the Psychology and the meaning behind it. The ultimate final message was "Love Christ as He has loved thee!" pretty much just idolization in my opinion. They made it more about feeling sorry for Jesus, rather than learning something from the suffering he went through. It was more focused on the fact that he died for our sins, instead of learning how we can apply the same ideology and adapt to our situations. Dr.Peterson got it right.

The Catholic Church is divided into 2 religions, the one that was practiced for almost 2 thousand years, and the one that was created in 1962. The Traditional message of the Cross was to love, kiss and embrace your cross, that you follower your God to Calvary, it is in everything that was ever written pre 1962. You are never going to hear the correct message in the Post Vatican II religion, which is probably why you are now an agnostic, it is why everyone is now an agnostic, sorry but you were robbed of your religion and your birth right.

I never said anything about orthodox. I said there are 2 religions one before VII and one after and they are contrary to each other , they contain contrary sentiments and only one can be right. The emphasis after VII was to take the focus off of the suffering, off of the Cross to make everything more light and appealing, less harsh and burdensome and the result of this has been disastrous, millions of people like yourself becoming agnostic or atheist finding no purpose in their religion, seminaries and convents and monasteries all closing - no difference between a Catholic and a public school - they ripped out the Altars and the Statues out, took away the devotions and altered the Mass and made everything about feelings and nothing about real purpose, no real message, the message became something similar to Barney the Purple Dinosaur - I love you, you love me lalalalalala . - garbage.

To make sure that your resentment "doesn't blow up": You remove yourself from those who are too entitled to carry their own cross. You surround yourself with people who are truly compassionate, have dignity, solve problemsand they are not willingly blind to abuse. Mostly: they take responsibility for their own mistakes. They make sure that they right the situation. Only shameless people can sleep when they know they mistreated people. If you don't find people who respect you enough to feel that you have basic rights and dignity: alone is better than be with them. Jiddu Krishnamurti: "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society."

Not trying to judge Mr Peterson, but what he just said is so repulsive. Matthew 16:24 says to pick up your cross and follow Jesus, not to pick up your GD cross and get your life in order. Be wary of taking advice from a guy who says to have your own house clean before blah blah blah, but doesn't have his own house clean himself. The truth is, none of us have our own house clean, and never will. That's why we pick up our cross and follow Jesus, God's grace through Jesus is the only thing that can redeem us.

Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. Well this just goes to show that he’s a terrible theologian. Please, please, do not listen to this as orthodox interpretation of the scripture. This is the context and the quote,” If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” It’s not about taking your cross and figuring it out, it’s about following Jesus Christ. And to be perfectly honest, if you’re not willing to follow Christ, please don’t use the imagery: they go hand in hand. Now to be a good humanist, by all means be the author and perfector of your own life, but to be a Christian is something entirely different.
