I once went to an art school. Some girl asked, if we could learn something about mixing colours, and all 20+ students of all ages were forced to waste time on that. Our teacher (who qualification was that she painted really crappy art, and was married to the boss). At one time she's talking about, I think it was, complentary colours, and being auto didact with huge balls, I asked, what that meant. She stopped a bit, and then said: "I don't actually know that", and laughed embarrased. But this was 1998 or 99, and on the copy we had been given, there was printed: "Engelsholm 1994" (as I recall it). So the woman had been teaching from her own material, without even understanding it. Shortly after I went to the freezing cold can, and stayed there, until she was finnished, and made up a story, so I could get out of the time waste, without getting in trouble with the dicktator's wife, which can ruin being on a school, where you live too. All that jst to say, cool that you just asked about psychological contaigen (now I won't have to look it up) - ballsy dude !

People form their beliefs on the strongest influences they can find in their slice of the world. Using black thumbs up emojis and inappropriately aggressive small-scale activism isn't going to do anything. What is really needed is great black people embodying excellence and ideals in their own image. Anything less than that is wasted effort. Same goes for any other demographic.

ye, I never got this thing either. The idea of emojis being yellow, is that, like the simpsons, it is not meant to represent anyone concretely so that focus can be fully on the schematic design, that is the meaning of the face or hand expression. It is truly a sign of disease when people are obsessed with the color, like the trees instead of the forest. Totally missing the point, due to an addictive obsession of ideology.

As an ex “transgender/gender neutral” person, I have found that this whole phenomenon is extremely damaging to young people especially girls sense of self. It underlyingly enforces the stereotypical gender roles that these far left political views are supposedly trying to go away from, by saying , “ if you don’t fit in as a woman who doesn’t have every like, dislike and personality trait of the traditional view of a woman, that makes you not a woman at all “ we should be encouraging humanity that just because of what you are like doesn’t make you any less of a woman, or man. People are diverse and have a spectrum of personalities which should be celebrated! Not made into a spectrum of genders .

  • @kelly4187

This is why I don't understand why the left had supported the whole trans issue... It runs completely counter to gay rights and their push in the last 20 years to challenge stereotypes. Because after all you aren't gay, you are just the wrong gender, and there's only two. Whether a person believes in those at all (I don't) they should still be able to see that these issues are mutually exclusive. They cannot both exist simultaneously, as many feminists have noticed, causing them to push back on the T.

  • @typingcat

    @typingcat

@@kelly4187 Yeah, the problem of the Left is that they have no definitive idea of maleness. Feeling sexually attracted to a male is not a woman-only trait (there are homosexual men), desire to wear female dresses is not a female-only trait (there are males who do that but still think themselves male), and so are all non-biological facts and preferences. The whole argument of "I like to do X, Y, and Z, therefore, I must be a woman" is ridiculous when men do X,Y, and Z, too.

I have no idea about left or right politics, but what I do know is that teens nowadays would rather jump under then knife, than wait to see who they grow up to be. This whole spectrum is so unneccessary and confusing and frustrating to me. Also, this whole thing cannot just be blamed on politics. The politicians did not start this, they just agreed to calm down the people who did, to win them over. To them it's not a matter of belief, or consolation, or anything like that, it's just means to more votes. So what if you act more like a "stereotypical guy" as a girl? That doesn't change anything, you are who you are and if you feel the need to announce every slight deviantion from the "norm" as a seperate gender, then that just shows how insecure, confused and immature you are about yourself and to me just has the opposite effect. To be clear, I'm not trying to bash you here, this is more of an outlet of my frustration in general

Not about emojis, but I wanted to comment about my 19 yo daughter (at the time) experience with deciding she was trans. I knew she wasn't. She loves to wear wild looking clothes and make-up. Oh, and huge lizard or snake earrings. Lots of Goth at the time too. But with many heart felt talks and lots of love, she finally understood that she had been bullied online into thinking her not so feminine ways reflected her inner 'man'. Later on we also found out she is autistic. Thankfully, we made it through the trenches. Other parents and daughters have not been so lucky.

Growing up I was really confused about everything and sometimes I strongly wished I was a boy when I was a teenager. But living in a traditional culture I couldn’t do much. Now after years of immigration in my 30s when I look back I see why I felt that particular way and it was totally psychological tracing it back to my parents. I’m so grateful to be a woman now and wouldn’t want to change a thing. I’ve been able to re-establish my connection with my femininity after years of self development and awareness and it’s very empowering. Sometimes it gives me the shudders just to think what could have happened if I grew up in a country like Canada while going through that phase. It was highly possible for me to do something I would totally regret in my 30s.. irreversible damage. Wish more people like JP would bring awareness to this.

In which we have to quietly attempt to enact change through well placed and we'll timed actions. Speak your mind in a public forum = risk your livelihood. It's extremely sad and disturbing. Not at all what I envisioned when I started my path towards teaching in higher education. When we ask our students if they've heard another viewpoint than the "white hetero able bodied male domination culture" , they are shocked to hear that we care about each person as an individual with their own needs and experiences. It's remarkable how receptive students are to that. They've been fed the victim narrative their entire lives and they don't know how to respond to the individualistic approach. We need more professors to speak up, because this ideological possession needs to stop.

We’re all human, but jp weaponizes his feelings about his perhaps not fully discussed treatment Re “compelled speech”. The fact that we can easily call a Ms “Mrs” does away with this argument? That some words are, in fact, harmful, does not do away with our obligation to listen to one another. I am a man with an intersex disorder, that has been recognized as "transgender". I was the only person I knew who dealt with this, particularly the serious abuse and trauma resulting from my parents attempting to raise me as the opposite gender. I didn't know anyone else who was "transgender" growing up. I was highly independent and hard to influence to do anything "going along with a crowd". You would say, the opposite of social contagion. The descriptions of social contagion hitting girls now are on a different planet from my experiences. I definitely have never wanted to change my gender, no matter how much it was forced on me. Very severe damage can convince people that someone's gender has been changed, but the intrinsic instinctive perception internally is still there. Rather than change my gender, I just wanted the physical pain to be treated and not to be in a crisis thinking I was going to die anymore. Testosterone, deep trauma therapy (that is physical) and more general physical therapy saved my life, and allowed me to become a deeply self-determined person against the odds. This is a medical condition, and it needs proper diagnosis. Social justice is toxic, and the idea that "gender is a social construct", is dangerous propaganda that should be regarded skeptically. ***EDIT: If you're new to replying please look at the other replies too, I'm getting a lot of similar comments and questions. My other explanations should clarify. Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to hear my story and be curious, and open :)

@@beezowdoodoozoppitybopbopb9488 I would be considered a "transgender man" (FtM) but I think the description is misleading and the opposite of what my actual situation was. It suggests I tried to change my gender, but I didn't try to change anything. I didn't know my parents were trying to raise me as a girl nor that other adults, e.g. teachers, were treating me as a girl, until I was 8. Adults tried to change my gender, and I fought until I could free myself. My childhood was really messed up, I became independent as a teenager, and it saved my life. As far as the science goes, I think some of the research done suggests the brain and nervous system is part of a person's sex, but in rare cases, hormone disruption in pregnant women prevents the development of the sex properly, specifically messing with the hormone surge that forms a unified sex in the baby. People like me have intersex disorders that aren't visible outwardly, which is very common among even recognized intersex disorders. Ambiguity externally is less common. If it is indeed an intersex disorder, it suggests that the brain & nervous system become sexed opposite to the external body. Reference: Polyvagal Theory, proprioception, the psychosomatic map. Alongside the usual transgender research. Thanks for asking, I hope this clarified.

I think this is unfortunately human nature. We are a period of unprecedented peace and prosperity, and development. No other humans in existence have lived as comfortably as us in the West, have never had access to education like this, have never had pleasures and purchasing power like this. We live better than medieval royalty with more amenities, services and choice. Similarly we have had peace for so long that the overwhelming majority of people have never faced any mortal danger at all. Yet, we evolved with danger, with poor wealth, prospects, development. We banded together to survive and evolved traits that were conducive to that life. That is why I think we are seeing a very tribal attitude today (left vs right, us vs them). We spent so long evolving in danger and threat that there is almost something uneasy about not having something to, at least, moan and complain about. So these modern people decided to invent their own problems, and the Marxist morons, supporters of a failed childish ideology that never got out of the gate (and was itself polluted with failed philosophical concepts from the not so enlightening "enlightenment") decided to use them as the latest attempt to gain influence. Hence the modern left.

Well, because it was already there in the software, that's why, and I have no reason whatsoever to need an emoji that matches my skin color, because my skin color is irrelevant to the emoji. I understand what you are saying George, although when I first saw they offered different skin colors, I was honestly excited. As a Black person, I like being able to represent who I am in my digital world, MOST of the time. If given the choice, I might choose GREEN (I like ORCS), too as a color. I know it SOUNDS silly, but this relates to the OLD video game problem way back in the day: they only had TWO hairstyles for Black characters (Bald and Afro) and maybe 3 different shades that never matched my character (because I wanted to play MYSELF in the fantasy world, not ALL the time, but SOME times). So, having options that represent YOU can be important to some people, especially if those options are rare and hard to come by. Some of it is attached to self-esteem and identity, which can be related to one another.

Question - are you supposed to use an emoji that represents your actual 'in the flesh' skin tone (including natural or fake tans) - or one that best fits what people perceive your emoji skin tone should be based on your race? There are already articles discussing this going back as far back as 2017. Google: "Thoughts on white people using dark-skinned emoji" If you are white European - even one with a dark tan, will you be expected to use the lightest skin emoji (or the yellow one), for fear of offending people of colour if you use a darker one - even though the darker one might represent your actual skin tone far more accurately. Is it only a matter of time before somebody is pulled up or cancelled for using the "wrong colour" emoji.

Much respect for Dr. Peterson. It wasn't necessary to make everything so complicated. Why is it so hard to understand that the more options you're given the more painful it is to decide? What? You think identity is not a decision? Why not? Because you weren't given the chance to choose your gender or your ethnicity? But, who said you are your gender? Who said you are the color of your skin or the place you where you were born? You are not your conditions nor what the world does to you. You are your what you do. Some of the things you do are not conscious decisions, but your conscious decisions are the ones that say the most about who you are. Ask yourself, "What do I like to do? What have I done to the people around me? What have I done to myself? What do I want to do? What will I do for it? Why do I do what I do?" If you want to know who you are, those are the questions that matter.

Because what I see in nature, what I see in reality matches that which he describes. The psychological contagion he describes matches what I am seeing in my own children's cohort of friends and acquaintances. Our schools and the psychological health system have bought into the psychological contagions of identity politics and have imprinted them upon the the most vulnerable of our children. I know of far too many autistic children whose psychologists have diagnosed them with gender dysphoria. This does them great disservice because they focus on changing their gender rather than on dealing with the deficit of social skills that is impeded by their autism. They discard the hard task of dealing with their autism for a series of 'changes' that each bring them a dopamine hit at each step. But once fully "transformed" the high wears off and they have more problems than ever, but their Doctors and Psychologists are now richer. They wind up with more problems, serious problems, than they started with! Our children are being quickly led down a false trail that ends at a cliff's edge. Many won't realize what disaster awaits them.

Funny thing about the Emoji usage is that I've seen some people claim that white people should just not use skin-color emojis at all, specifically there was an article on a pretty notable news site that broke it down. If they use the yellow "simpsons" emojis, they're insinuating that their white skin could be considered default. If they use a brown or black emoji, they're "occupying and stealing PoC representation". And if they use the white emoji, they're implying that their whiteness matters enough to bring up in casual conversation, aka they're "putting their whiteness on display" whatever that means. I wish I could find that article again, but they basically came to the conclusion that white people should refrain from using skin-color based emojis altogether. Representation in emoji's is great and totally warranted, but some of the micro-politics that surround them is just silly.
