Except, for one thing, every major force in our culture says that; and for another, chastity is a virtue regardless of why you're doing it. What's not a virtue is complaining about it and wishing you weren't abstinent. Instead of wishing you weren't abstinent, why not question your fundamental values and find out why the hell you even exist in the first place and what you're meant to do, and what do your sex organs have to do with it, if anything? And not being capable doesn't preclude being voluntary about being chaste.

@@valthiriansunstrider2540 There's much more to life than sex, for sure. But there is something to be said about a person who sticks by their values not to be promiscuous when they have opportunity and someone who is abstinent because they have no opportunity. It's more impressive to see someone say no in the face of temptation than someone who has never had temptation right in front of them. Regardless, if it is truly your value then having no temptation is not bad of course.

Basically. Incels need jesus. Which I agree with. Personally. Man and woman as old as adam and eve, has been tuggling and wrestling in the everlasting conflict of trying to mate peacefully. You cant pity or comfort the incels, but you cant hate or blame them either for being an abandoned part of the mating system.

My friend laughs at me for putting value on the act of sex. She tells me that sex is not a big deal, basically means nothing. I just can't agree with that. Sex to me is not just an empty act. To me it is intimacy, closeness, a way to connect. Ultimately to me it is sharing, giving up a part of myself to the person i love.

  • @LaneLift

Not just "to you." Sex and intimacy cannot be separated, as much as society wants to believe it can be. Every sexual partner carries a piece of us, and we wonder why society and people are so broken, and the divorce rate is basically higher than marriages who make it. Sex is meant for a husband and wife, not BECAUSE certain religions say so. The opposite, certain religions say so BECAUSE it's the truth.

I've heard people who engage in this behavior say they felt disgusting, uncomfortable and sick to their stomach after engaging sexually with a stranger, without even bothering to ask for their name or connect with them in some sort of level. What Mr. Peterson said about "rejecting" human nature in order to be able to carry out this conduct is absolutely true, you're treating another human being like an object and letting yourself be treated as such as well. That must damage the psyche eventually, no matter how in control of the situation you think you are.

That being said, the people I was talking about that engaged in this behavior ARE "liberal", and they said they felt "primitive" and like they'd lost control of their bodies and felt disgusted with themselves after giving in. And I can undersand why, that is all. I'm no one to judge.

@Justin Hernandez I'm not american, which is why I don't label everything as conservative/liberal. As I said, I'm neither. I personally don't feel comfortable engaging in hook up culture because it would make me feel undervalued as a human being, that is all, for me human connection is important. That being said, I have friends who are active participants in this (some more than others) and I don't judge, belittle or try to push my lifestyle down anyone's throat. I don't particularly think that people with a "liberal mindset" are automatically "smart" because I've seen firsthand what hook up culture has done to them. For some, I believe it is a defense mechanism that comes from a fear of abandonment, fear to commit and fear of being alone. Hooking up doesn't solve those problems, it just emphasizes them.

And attempt to use "knowledge" to tell everyone else they are wrong with their conflicting opinions. Testosterone levels are high pushing men to find a mate/reproduce in their earlier years. Testosterone lowers with children, likely from more stress but also with aging in general. More of your testoserone is aromatized into estrogen as we age, likely to promote a more nurturing, nesting man. Listen to endocrinologists speak on this. @@willpushback4874 I wouldn't disagree with your concerns, but rather than swear off relationships this just means that you have to be honest about what you want, maybe even brutally so. If you're honest about what your looking for and don't give them what they want without something in return (whatever that is) then you'll scare off the women that weren't worth your time anyway. Only the good ones will stick around when you put up standards. It worked for me and I have an awesome wife. As Jordan and Ben say, not perfect, but your relationship's quality is going to oscillate with how you uphold your standards and values that you hold yourself and your partner to. But I do agree that courts are heavily in women's favor. However, there are plenty of women that are looking for quality men. So be quality: don't give people something for nothing, promote virtuous loving, and above all be honest about what you want.

I'm 27 years old and a Christian, I've remained in abstinence in my entire life. I've had many opportunities to "lose my virginity" to quite a few women (I don't say that as pride, that means nothing to me, it's just flattering at times). However, I haven't given into that. Because I know if I was to go down that road it would lead to a pit of despair for myself. I know I would always seek it and want it when I'm alone or in my thoughts. It's not just some easy road you stop going down once you've done it. It can consume you and heart tremendously especially if someone doesn't love you and just uses you. I can honestly say I'm thankful in the fact that I've never given myself away because the day I give myself to my wife, I will know no one but her and who is she emotionally, physically and spiritually. I don't think there is nothing more beautiful than that. Because I'll never think of another woman, my heart will belong to her and there is a joy in knowing you heart belongs to someone who you only know and no one else. There's a certain peace to it. That being said, God can deliver anyone from anything and I'm not opposed to marrying someone who isn't a virgin. But for me, I'm just thankful I'll be able to give myself to her and my heart will not be despaired to the level it could be. There is also an excitement in learning how to love someone in that. It'll be a constant journey and one that I believe will be very satisfying in my marriage some day. Our society has taken away any seriousness of sex and I've been often made fun of by men and women for staying this way. But I'd rather be this way than seeing my friends beg or chase their heart out for sex and satisfaction only to lead into despair. This post is way more in-depth and serious but this is all I got for now. And I'm not judging anyone who isn't a virgin or anything in that regard, etc. But the "hook up culture" that we are taught is garbage and destroying people.

Thank you for this video, it really moved me. I didn't realize how many people replied. To clarify I'm not blindly following religion there are a ton of practical reasons to wait, other than doing what feels good and living impulse to impulse. Risk of STDS is zero if your partner also waits, as a young women heart break is common and not letting your brain go crazy with bonding hormones from sex is a great way to have an objective view of who you are with. And I personally am not ready and would perfer to wait until I am completely comfortable with a person, and by the time I want to spend the rest of my life with them I'm definitely ready. Thank you to everyone who supports the idea and sent links about the practical benefits, much love. To people who think I'm a crazy prunish nun think about other perspectives. 😊

That's actually a quote by Jesus. Peterson has been seeming to take a keen interest in him lately. 1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted a by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ b ” 5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ c ” 7Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ d ” 8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9“All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ e ” 11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Even before I met my partner, people were still telling me that having a one night stand is okay, but for me they're not, as they just made me feel dirty and empty. I am moved by Dr. Peterson's passion at the end telling the story of the North Korean woman's negative experience at Columbia. About 25 years ago I read an article in Teacher's magazine on a study where high school children who practiced casual sex suffer most not just from STD's or pregnancy, but from the emotional harm of feeling "used" and bereft of deep emotional intimacy that was lost through recreational sex. This is why I hate TV shows like "Friends". Adults acting like immature juveniles going to bed with each other and suffering no consequences of emotional damage from ongoing casual sex , STD's, or pregnancy. Joking about enjoying pornography as if it doesn't color their attitude towards women, or cripples their will to remain loyal to one partner through thick and thin.

Yeah, I mean Friends is a well written show, but there is no such thing as casual sex. There just isn't. It wasn't meant to be. Sex binds people whether they want it to or not. And it binds at a very deep level. You can try to suppress that, but it will eventually fail. It's almost like a drug where the only way your emotions tell you to handle it is just have more sex, to keep trying to fill the bucket that has 10 leaks in it. And that's leaving out all the consequences like spritual health, stds, preganancy, abortions etc.

There are still people who believe in meaningful relationships and marriage. I got married at 18, and we'll celebrate our 10th anniversary this summer. Marriage is not easy but so worth it if you put the time into it. I think people in the hook up culture feel bad and lonely, and just like when a crab tries to escape and the others pull him back in, they are trying to keep you in their miserable environment. It's much nicer knowing who you're going to wake up to each day, because you've both made the commitment to be together for better and worse no matter what happens for life.

I currently go to one of the Ivy League schools and live in its dorms. The other day my computer's headset broke, and the dorms here have "thin" walls and you hear a lot of the stuff going on in your dormmate's rooms. Because of this and the fact my headset broke, every time I watch one of the videos from creators I enjoy like Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder, and others, I put the volume on very low so only I can hear it and none of my dormmates can for fear of them ostracizing me for the content I chose to engage with. It's the same thing while in public, I have one conservative friend, and whenever we discuss politics we are constantly mindful of who is around. It can definitely feel like a mild version of a censoring authoritarian regime. A few years ago I would laugh at someone acting like this and see it as they overreacting, but the climate is changing so fast at my school that this and worse may be the norm surprisingly soon.

Great to hear two legends speak on something that is so important. It is always encouraging to see the number of people who are listening as well increasing over time. It's depressing to witness- to our children's detriment- some of the brightest spotlights are on those who spew verbal filth all over them in their classrooms, on Social Media, music videos, movies, the News, commercials, on college campuses, etc. I would love to hear both of them discuss the topic of _The Teachers Union_ . What is happening in schools is extremely disconcerting, and I believe it's vital for the mass majority (who will not have their children attending private schools) to know how to deal with this issue. It is a very touchy situation, as it feels as if there is no reasoning with those who are so immersed in this disturbing way of life. To "poke the bear" could result in them digging in deeper, behaving even _more_ erratically. I've heard many stories from teachers who even lost their _jobs_ because they wouldn't comply with these new courses, or were uncomfortable with the new guidelines of how they should speak or behave in front of the students. Anyways- sorry for the novel! haha

This is me, but not everyone will understand the deep connection to be with someone not just for sex, but for everything else.

You need to study the history of human relationships, im sorry to pop your romanticized view of society bubble.. but relationships for most of western society were not about love.. and all about property rights.

What if i told you people DO realize there is more to being with someone, but they are for whatever reason incapable or uninterested in a relationship at that time being. You are not a respectable person for not wanting casual sex, just like you aren't a respectable person for wanting casual sex, so i'm not sure why you're on a moral high horse looking down on people who do engage in casual sex while boasting about not engaging in any.

But people don't want to be with someone, they want to be with everyone. If someone gave you an option of eternal youth what would you do? Settle down with someone or be promiscuous?

I don’t see how dehumanizing someone down to an object of sexual pleasure isn’t considered taboo or wrong.

@@hyperteleXii I don’t understand how in todays society, hookup culture, having sex with strangers, and things of that nature are being wildly accepted and is considered a good thing, but in reality when you have sex with strangers and live a promiscuous lifestyle like that you are essentially reducing both yourself and the other person down to a sexual object for yourself and/or for the other person. People are obviously more than just that but when you do stuff like that on a consistent basis, you are removing the humanity or the connectivity in sex that really makes it so great in the first place (hence why I said it’s dehumanizing), you’re just looking to get off ,which is fine, but I don’t understand why that’s being portrayed as a good or a healthy thing to do that often. Removing those said connections makes it hard to reattach them when you want to (like when you’re in a serious relationship for example) It just seems backwards to me that it’s being promoted rather than seen as a taboo thing( not taboo enough to be ostracized but taboo enough to be it’s own niche or community I guess)
