Something that I've noticed with this whole narrative on how "Jordan Peterson targets predominately white males"... "Jordan Peterson writes self-help for young, angry men"... Well, let's say that is correct for the sake of argument, okay? Why don't young men or men in bad positions get to hear someone with a voice which connects with them? Why is it wrong to help that demographic of human being "feel better" or "improve themselves"? There's all kinds of books written for women that get praised. All kinds of books that target audiences predominately of one ethnic background or another. Hell, there's books that target mainly homosexuals. Are "insecure men" "angry men"... etc... not deserving of help? Do they deserve to feel poorly? Even if you're answer to this is "well, Peterson's writing or lectures don't help anyone!"... Okay, well... I could say that about anyone who wrote a self-help book. The question still remains - why is it wrong that Peterson appeals to a certain demographic? Why don't you care about the COUNTLESS other authors who appeal to a different demographic?

I love "even if" arguments. It frames the oppositions opinion as a best case scenario, and in this instance it proves that JP's critics would be hypocrites to not criticize black female authors for writing books that empower black women. again, that's assuming nameless black female author is only targeting black females. Indeed, as Hemmingway said, well done.

Why is it presumed bad that Peterson talks to men? Because in our gynocentric western civilization men are seen as inherently bad. Therefore ANYTHING made specifically or solely for men is automatically bad. This is why men are not allowed to have men only clubs, while women can have women only anything. Never mind that men built all of civilization and protected it with our very lives, FOR our women and children. Feminists rage against the mythical "Patriarchy", yet they claim that Feminism fights for men as well. Their ideological boogey man is named after men. "Toxic masculinity", "dead beat dads", "wife beaters", etc, ad nauseum. More men than women die from testicular cancer than women die from ovarian cancer. And women's cancer research garners ten times the money. And very few people care that men's health is mostly ignored. Go to wwwDOTwomenshealthDOTgov and tell me what you see. Then go to wwwDOTmenshealthDOTgov and tell me what you see. Three quarters of the homeless are men yet all of the magazine articles are either "homelessness" in general or about women's homelessness specifically. When was the last time you heard anyone say "Oh stop whining and just woman up."? Men hear "man up" all the time. It's irrelevant that Peterson isn't targeting men, it's the fact that men are profiting from his work. Men aren't supposed to be benefiting from anything. Only women are allowed to benefit and profit. Because muh sexism.

Henry VIII ate roasted sparrows in a pigeon’s mouth. The pigeon was in a dog’s mouth. The dog was coated in sugar and peanuts. The dog was cooked sitting on a deer. The dog was wearing a suit and jacket, so as to look like some guy the king thought was a twat. The deer was laid on a silver platter on the table. One hundred and twenty-eight other dishes were also on the table. If anyone criticised the king, they might have to run away to France. For most of human history, there were no jobs or schools or elections. People lived on the land and grew their own food. The whole day was made up of working for food to survive. Men worked the fields, and women worked in the house raising kids and cooking. The man built a house to provide for his wife and family. Women were provided for and protected. For every wealthy man, there was a wealthy woman, most of whom had maids and servants. Women stayed at home while the men fought off invaders or went to war and got killed.

On top of that women can now hold positions of power. We have women in the Senate we literally have a woman that's our vice president. We got female supreme court judges. We got female mayors. We got female CEO's. Etc. So compared to women back then we got it good and women back then were for sure oppressed. I don't see how it's ridiculous. I mean just compare what women can so not to back then. It's very different.

I dont have a problem with hierarchies existing. The only thing that's always puzzled me is why is their such disassociation between members, depending on their position within that hierarchy? For example, why doesnt a corporate CEO sit down and eat lunch and socialize with a group of lunchpail-carrying hourly workers? Why does there HAVE to be a social disconnect based on professional/economical position? The term segregation is considered taboo, yet we practice it every single day.

In the book Power vs Force, David R. Hawkins describes levels of consciousness (LOC) that range from Shame (1-20), Guilt(20-30), Apathy (30-50), all the way up to Joy(540- 600), Peace (600-700), and Enlightenment (700-1000). Think of them like notes from tuning forks if that helps. Some levels can resonate well with others that are close (enough) to their own level, yet others seem incomprehensible to each other because of how different they are. How many of us Truly understand or appreciate the Great Works, religions, scientific theories of civilizations, or even Triage (which, as a concept, needs a LOC of 350 to understand.) My guess is that the CEO level characters are (more?) commonly up around the 400's (Level of Reason) and the "lunch pail workers", as you said, probably are around 310- 350 (Willingness and Acceptance) at best, and more likely/ commonly in around 185 (Pride) or further down.

I feel one of the reasons a CEO doesnt eat with his workers or socializes on a normal level is he/she may have to reprimand/discipline or even fire those employees, which can cause an unhealthy social dynamic, the employees may start to feel as if their equals in regard to their status at the company, the CEO may not be able to adequately run/make decisions for the betterment of the company and the most for their employees. If a CEO had real emotional attachments to their employees, their job becomes more difficult to make rational decisions

@@ilovejettrooper5922 I'm sorry, but this "theory" sounds like bullshit. There are the most successful people who are still motivated by the shame from deep within, as well as there are apathetic but peaceful people. There's all kinds of folks and we all feel those different emotions to a certain extent, to say that "one person is above the other in some imaginary hierarchy of consciousness because they have more points which map one-to-one onto the emotions" is just riddiculous, we have a multitude of emotions going through us every day. If you want to convince yourself of your higher status because you feel more joy and have more points of consciousness than Jimmy R. Schmuck downstairs, go ahead, but don't kid yourself that that's a moral stand that is actually moral, that is aimed at making the society better. What you want is ideas that bring people together, not segregate them into 'levels'. Everyone feels the preexisting "levels" in the society, let's mitigate the pain and not multiplicate it by pretending there's something unrepairable about consciousness itself.

On the example of the plumber I would have to say this. Competency is important but power does play a role. Dr. Peterson talks about our criteria for hiring a plumber but does not talk to the larger market forces that make certain plumbers more hireable. We have quality criteria but also price criteria, so it's not about whether employees are treated fairly. In any organisation the value of the work an employee does is necessarily more than their wage (that's what makes it profitable to hire them). So we can conceive of an organisation that underpays it's workers and consolidates the market to remove other competition. Both of these are acts of power. There is obviously competence involved in enacting the consolidation because it's easy for a business to go bankrupt if they over leverage on acquisitions.

Jordan Peterson is an existentialist. I agree with some things he says and others not so much. But his main ideas - that enforced speech is atrocious, natural hierarchies are good (not the corruption of them), and the Western tradition undergirding them must be supported - are things I get behind not just theoretically but practically because I've actually lived in places outside the West. The Western hierarchy is the LEAST corrupt. IMO, the West is best.

Yet "the Left" always thinks immigrants come from cultures superior to ours. Many of these cultures bring things like honor killings, arranged marriages and female circumcision. Our culture is thought to be corrupt and oppressive. Then why are people dying to come here? Because our system works. People are free. A man can earn a living -- and women, too. People can live their dream. Our forefathers did many, many, many things right. But they don't teach that in liberal universities. They teach how awful we've always been. Their thinking is 1-dimensional because these pampered, entitled professors have never really experienced life outside of their liberal enclaves. Most have no real way to compare living here to living anywhere else. Our Founding Fathers were flawed, but they were geniuses who invented the best political system from whole cloth, and borrowing their philosophies from the very best thinkers throughout history. They didn't always live up to their own ideals, but who does?

What makes you think they don't corrupt. Corruption is a natural part of a hierarchy's cycle, it's the death of such an order. The end or death of something is part of the nature of anything that exists. Historically, all hierarchies start off good or at the least functional. With time, interests shift towards gaining power for the sake of power until the society under that hierarchy begins to fall apart and eventually collapses. Our society is no different from any other in that sense and it's because humans are still exactly the same as the humans from back then. We like to think we are modern to the point that we will never repeat the mistakes and patterns of the past but alas, I think it's futile. When you study enough human history you begin to recognize the patterns and reflect that on your own, only to realize that we are no different. If things don't change at all, in 30 years or so, we will begin to see the beginning of the end. Don't expect any apocalyptical fireworks though, the collapse of a society is subtle and over extended periods of time, when people finally notice, it's already to late to do anything significant about it. At least most of us will be old and potentially senile when things get real bad, hey maybe we'll even be dead when the worse happens and that's at least comforting to me....

It seems that what at least I understand patriarchal tyranny to be and what Mr Peterson understands it to be are two different things. You live in the west, you have made a lot more progress, good for you. My understanding of patriarchal tyranny is not based on profession, it is not only power exerted in a hierarchical business, it is the societal interpretation of interpersonal relationships between men and women. And that creates a mindset where men must be dominant, women must be submissive, and it clears the path to misogyny and on the extremes, explicit abuse. In more concrete terms, this leads a country to not respond to a domestic violence call because household issues must be resolved by the head of the house who is often times the abuser, leading to a surge of murder of women by their husbands that go unpunished if argued that it is within their right because she defied his honor. And before you jump the gun and argue that this is the result of the islamic religion, I’m talking about a country with 50% christian population and with a christian president. Just because you have a better life doesn’t mean these things don’t exist anymore. That’s a fact.

Ironically, as a woman, I've found female police to be much more aggressive in a negative way than the male cops. I won't go into the whole story of my abuse by a sadistic narcissist, so let's just say my husband with 30 years of intense martial arts and also gift for fighting even amongst the other elite in his field of Navy SEALs, FBI, and police, who I also met as my self-defense teacher, and had been , faithfully married to for 15 years at that time, raped me, and then the next night called the cops on me for going apeshit. I admit it. I was off the fucking chart. So, the cops come, and I stupidly told my kids to just let them in, because I didn't want to leave my bedroom. The cops come up, one man and one woman. The man did his job, asked me the typical questions, and was clearly uncomfortable being in my bedroom while I sat in my underwear and T-shirt. Then, he respectfully retreated downstairs. The little blond girl wouldn't leave, even after I told her my husband had attacked me, held me down in my bed, ripped off my clothes, and told me he, "won't have a wife that he can't fuck." She stayed. I asked her, fairly nicely to leave me the fuck alone. She stayed, as if intruding on my personal space meant something to her beyond her job. I got up, in my underwear, stood over her face (I am 5'9" and she was no more than 5'4", and looked her right in the face saying, "Are you fucking stupid? You are a woman!" I am lucky I didn't get arrested. I am not proud of losing my grip. But it wasn't the first time female cops have been a pain in the ass, while male cops were helpful. I slept at the beach for three months after my rape, and one night I arrived and threw my truck door open, barfing and heaving like an animal. The funny thing is this is a beach neighborhood that is considered the second most affluent in the state of CA, and I thought the cops there must be dicks, since, you know, rich people get protected better. But no. I told him a summary of why I was there, and told him, I was not crazy or drunk, just needed to be safe. He literally slumped in his posture with empathy and asked me if there was anything he could do. I think we forget that men are designed to be heroic. They need to be heroic. That is why video games are so important for young men, because there aren't any chances for them to do what they are designed to do--fight, protect, and hunt. Sure, when men are evil, they have the power to reign pain and destruction upon us. But I don't think that is what most men want. They want to do what their evolution designed them to do, save the weak, and the children. When society creates an obstacle to that, it either causes men depression or aggression. And I think they understand abuse better than women. I mean, why else would the woman cop be a bitch? And why in the world would a cop outside 20-50 million dollar homes that sees a woman in an old truck, barfing out her door, not think I was a threat or menace? He probably would not have been so kind had I been a man doing the same. It is weird, but I think striving to find the symbiosis is the key. Women typically want to nurture and care. Men want to protect and defeat anyone who takes resources from their people. If one side dominates, we all lose. And when women try to be men, we all lose. Modern society is cutting off men's balls. What will we do if all men turn feminine here, while other places in the world they are still fighters? We will die.

That doesn't take into account the 30+ years women continued to live like they were 1950s housewives into the 1990s. Jordan can stop talking about this the day that radical leftists stop repeating the same illogical feminist NPC nonsense about patriarchy and social justice. It would be really convenient for the left if Jordan would just shut up and go away which is exactly why he cannot stop until the mainstream finally wakes up to the truth which could take years.

I feel like the point is being missed in a few areas; if more men are opposed than woman (still vague as to what area and if sexual oppression counts as anything less than her rights as a human being) it doesn’t justify oppression, period. Consuming capital doesn’t make you part of the problem, allowing capitalist to fuck the system based only on money or the promise of money is the problem and you can’t blame anyone for that except are government. Do people tend to victimize themselves? Yes, whether it’s Peterson feeling bad for not getting laid or a woman feeling bad for not being as good at something as a guy right away for any reason. I’m still trying to understand the weight of matriarchal tyranny, as a guy I can hear what guys say behind women’s backs and I know girls say the same, so I figure its up to what they are allowed to do; maybe there’s a social barrier, but that’s more mental/personal, since around the corner could be a “society” that gets down with that. Idk; those were my thoughts.

If we take all of human history into account, yeah, it's improved. But I'm not living in the 11th century. I'm living now, in America. That observation only supports him though. The fact is that people compare themselves to their direct neighbors instead of the wider human population. We're living great, but if our neighbor just got a nice shiny new porsche and a trophy wife, a lot of guys will get insanely jealous. It's ridiculous. People are far too concerned with status and what other people think. In today's age even poor people enjoy a very high quality of living, below the poverty line but able to get nice big tvs and entertainment systems. Yet our middle class has insanely high rates of depression, they just can't see how good that have it. They'd rather look at Bill Gate's fat bank account and mope all day in envy that their bank account isn't bigger. I'm under the poverty line, and life is GREAT. I don't understand why I'd need more money. We need better education to teach people common sense lol.

@Kimmminem West Actually having access to a large tv/entertainment system can easily be indicators for quality of life, there's not just 1 indicator for quality of life, and a few of them can be shown with the tv. Outside of the homeless our poorest people (that are still in homes) today enjoy a higher quality of life than medieval kings. Sure some of the indicators you can't do much about after the fact, like having good health or education. A lot of the poor will be highschool dropouts or people with disabilities. Yet they can still enjoy their freetime and be entertained, that's one of the indicators for quality of life. By what measure are you trying to say poor people don't enjoy a high quality of living? Are you saying that just because of their economic status their lives must be miserable? Seems silly, if the reverse of that were true then you could say the uber rich must have amazing quality of life just because they have so much money. But I'll let you reply before i strawman you any further xD it'd be good to get an explanation instead of just a silly statement with nothing to back it up.

What Dr. Peterson says makes sense, as (almost) always, but what about the _incompetent_ and/or evil that made it to the top of Finance and ruined the Economy quite recently? Are these exceptions tolerable?

They are not incompetent, they play the game the way it has been designed to be played. They play for themselves and not for their company or economy, which is natural and has to be done so they can be the most efficient. The failing has happened in societies where there is not enough redistribution to the ones at the bottom. (he talks about this at around minute 7) Sometimes the question about who actually makes up the bottom (women, poc, white men, disabled people, homosexuals ???) muddles the problem we should actually be trying to solve, namely not stinting growth and progress of the people at the top but still not having a big gap between the top and the bottom.

No one says they should be no hierarchies .. JP is not being accurate or truthful ...What they say is that they should be accountable.. ....

wouldn't a theory i like to call "judges son" come into play at some point? so... you have potential lawyer A who lives in a tower block whose parents are on minimum wage jobs and doesn't have access to the resources and goes to a state funded school and has to work weekends to pay through uni then you have potential lawyer B who is a judges son who has access to a better education and doesn't have to work weekends and can concentrate of a degree from oxford surely the hierarchy of who can do the job better would go out of the window as the judges son would have un earned privileges by birth lottery?

So, you're saying both of those people are completely identical, not individuals with different talents, different intelligences, different personality traits, and that they will both compete at one hierarchy/job/position/company that will affect the whole country, maybe the world, and the only difference is someone has more resources than the other? If so, I say kill the pooorer one as they are a drain to society. Your hypothetical needs more thought in it.
