Bo Melton torched in week 17 for over 100 yards and two TD’s. He’s Green Bay’s 5th receiver. We might not have a number 1, but if you have 5 number 2’s. You’re good

Agree 100%. At the money some of these WR1s expect there are huge diminishing returns. Better off to have a low paid track star who draws double coverage for fear of killing them deep than paying over $30M to a true WR1.

  • @thomasmoshier3920

You can roll coverage to cover a number one WR. You can scheme for one guy. But you do not have enough good corners to cover four exceptional WR’s. You throw in two pass catching TE’s, and you’ve got a back seven constantly under stress and a DC that’s gonna be up all night trying to figure out what to do.

That rolled coverage that a number 1 wr mandates makes defenses predictable allowing an OC to build his entire offense off that. Calvin Johnson type will always take the safety with him +the guy who's covering him + a lb underneath if it's zone. If you don't have that guy you aren't forcing the defense to do anything therefore they're doing what they want. GB probably has that guy they're just in the process of developing him.

Like in anything performance based you go with that hot hand. It usually makes sense to give the ball to an elite WR even if they are doubled teamed when you know they can make the play regardless if another offense weapon is open. It all depends on the situation, skillset and trust. My initial Point Remains.

Packers have a number 1 WR . And that’s C.Watson . Yes , he’s dealt with injuries , but fact of the matter is he’s someone who has to be accounted for while fully healthy . He led ALL rookie WRs in TDs .. he was tied for first in contested catches (75% catch rate on contested catches) he has elite height and speed and can take the top off of any defense . He’s a WR1 no doubt . Packers just have a different approach . Packers approach is , the same as them not passing out captain patches . Everyone is being held to a high standard and I love this new philosophy because the packers are stacked to the point that they can only pass out so many captain patches lol . Long story short , ANYONE on this team is able to be a leader ! One band , one sound ! That’s what creates a winning team . Not favoritism , but togetherness ! Packers have the tightest group of players in the league guaranteed and that will ultimately be the reason for our success !

The great thing is Love doesn't care who gets open. I will say this, Watson changes the way defenses play them. He attracts safety attention every play. When he's on the field, the offense is just different. He opens up the field like no other. He can catch one or two a game and totally change how other teams cover, he is a problem. They play ok without him because they've had to, but when he's out there it's just different. He's the #1 but in a different sense, not numbers but the attention he attracts and demands. He makes a defense account for his speed and ability. This offense has a chance to be special, all those guys have #1 skills and they are just getting started, it will sort itself out as far as who gets more touches or less, but they all can step up if needed. I see probably one getting 1,000 yards and the rest between 500 and 800, the TEs will also steal a lot of touches. Love will get 4,000 easily and who cares how he does it. He should also get 30 to 40 TDs easily, even if Jacobs and Lloyd get 15 rushing TDs combined.

The conversation is irrelevant because one or two of these Packer receivers is going to jump up into that role this season. If Watson is healthy he will easily be a #1 and Reed also has the talent to be a #1. I don't think Doubs is going to be a huge stats WR, but he makes catches in big moments, like James Jones. Wicks is also really talented, however, I don't think he will get as many reps as the top three.

Green Bay recently had the best receiver in football and a bunch of average. I'll take what Green Bay currently has over that every day. With Davante Adams teams knew who was going to beat them and the good teams were able to stop it enough to win. Now the Packers have 7 guys who can go off on any given day, all with unique skillsets, and defenses aren't sure who it's going to be. I think it's harder to scheme your defense to deal with an entire receiving core of B+ guys than it is to scheme your defense to deal with 1 S guy and a bunch of C+ guys.

If their definition of a number one receiver is a guy who constantly gets double covered, then we have 4 number one receivers on our roster. Last year, there would be weeks where Reed was getting double covered consistently. Other weeks it was Watson getting doubled when he was healthy. Lets also not forget Doubs was the best Packer receiver in the playoffs and he absolutely torched Gilmore and the Dallas defense. And I didn't even mention Melton, Heath, Wicks, or the tight ends. I got a feeling Green Bay will be just fine heading into this year.

I think these guys are underestimating just how talented the Packers WRs are. There were games last year where They has 2 of the 5-deep squad injured and then someone else had a #1 WR type game. Doubs had a few games he took over. Wicks had a few games. Hell, even the #5 WR Bo Melton had one of the best single WR games at the end of last year. Aside from 5-deep WRs, the Packers have two young Tight Ends with receiving talent, Luke Musgrave has super-talent and could be a pro-bowler some year soon. I'm just saying, that Packers team is stacked. They don't need a #1. They have near-pro bowl level young guys all over the offense and even off the bench.

Nothing wrong with Green Bay having 3 or 4 "1's" and 4 "2's" to spread the ball around with every week. What team wouldn't want their situation??? DC's have a tough time figuring who the hell is going to break out in any given game. It's a true luxury.

I agree 100% with Love!.!.! I would rather have an entire receiver group that keeps a coordinator up at night than a single receiver that they can game plan for & try to take him out of action! The biggest strength of our offense is having an entire group that could be WR1 on any other team! I genuinely believe Reed & Wicks & gonna take a massive leap forward next season but i still believe Love will find the best receiver in the best spot at the time instead forcing bad passes to the teams clear WR1 like we've seen time & time again in the NFL... Also the fact that we don't have a WR1 keeps diva drama out of our locker room! I swear thses talking heads just be talking out of their necks sometimes!.!.! G🏈 P🧀ck G🏈

When all we had was Adams, teams that had a good defense to contain the run and double Adams would beat us cus we didn’t have anyone else to rely on. Now we have all these guys that you have to cover and don’t know who we’re going to. I think Watson being healthy impacts the defense the most so you could say he’s our WR1 cus his ceiling is the highest. But he’s not gonna have the most production every game. Doubs, Reed, Wicks, and our TEs are gonna be the guys that are getting the production and Watson is there for the big play.

I don't agree with Florio about the receivers (I think Sims is closer to on it), but I think some of it is also a definition problem, where "No WR1" is being treated like it's saying something negative about the quality of the receivers, rather than just describing a structure. Essentially, the Packers are actually following a known formula: all they're doing is trying to have so many pass catchers that other teams will struggle to cover them all (heck, we're basically seeing the Texans do the same thing just this year). But because they don't have someone to hold up as a token WR1(for lack of a better term) like other teams that have used this formula have done -- and because they're choosing to be totally candid about this fact -- everyone's losing their collective minds. By the way, the Packers' own history supports this model. The Packers have played in three Super Bowls and won two in the modern era, and all of those came in years where the receiver group was more of a collective unit and didn't have That One Guy. Except this current Packers receiver corps might have more collective talent than either the 96/97 or 2010 units did, and that should be a terrifying thought.

If these guys knew how talented the present GB WRs are then they would know that Love is accurate in his assessment; that the Packers are far better off with this group of receivers than having a number #1 like Adams who a defense can double cover and shut down. Rodgers proved this in the playoffs in forcing the ball too often to Adams costing them playoff games.
