I can't believe this piece was produced by a *comedy* show. Absolutely excellent boots-on-the-ground reporting. And absolutely terrifying that my fellow citizens can be so easily fooled. Not a shred of critical thinking among them. And even when they start to realize it, their brain immediately shuts that option down. We need de-programming on a mass scale.

It’s a conservation bias, basically, when someone has a belief that is part of their identity, and then they are confronted with evidence to the contrary, they latch on even more to their belief. The more indisputable the evidence to the contrary is, the more fiercely they will latch on to their false belief. It’s why slamming facts and figures down onto people when they’re wrong typically doesn’t work, you have to first connect with them on a personal level and then you can try the Socratic method, but we’ve got to start talking to people and stop taunting them bc our current cultural rift is absolutely devastating our country

Our group at the council lobbies for the removal of a pretty large Soviet army monument, which was placed on one of our hills during communist times. We had the same issues in Poland, when we destroyed Soviet monuments, especially the ones on cemeteries of fallen Red Army soldiers. Mind you, no one wanted to close or destroy cemeteries or monuments commemorating fallen soldiers (despite the fact that Red Army invaded Poland in 1939 and these fallen soldiers helped to establish communism and Soviet occupation of Poland), just monuments of Lenin, Stalin and Soviet symbols. Well, that's not what people heard in Russia.

It's unbelievable that Bolton who is clearly a smart man, has this blind spot that he can't make himself to vote for Biden even though he fully understands the dangers of Trump presidency. I think the thing is that he's just extremely dishonest person. He knows that if he now pledges to vote for a democrat when it's the right thing to do, he won't have any future in the post-Trump republican party as his opponents would always come back to this. So, he's not doing what he knows is right for the country hoping that the others will but he's doing what's best for himself.

You're assuming he will actually do what he says on the interview but there's no way to verify that. There's what Bolton says on the interview, and there's the way he actually votes on election day. As he's a right winger, I don't think that the wants to burn any potentially profitable bridges by admitting that "yeah, I'll vote for Biden". He just saves face on interviews, and does whatever else he wants during the secret vote time that nobody can see what his vote was.

As a Belarusian who has visited Russia multiple times before its invasion of Ukraine, I can say that those who claim that people live well there and look healthier simply do not realize how many people live in poverty in Russia. Moscow and St. Petersburg, which received huge budget allocations before the war, are not representative. And the corruption there is even more extensive than in Ukraine.

Nah. People in power who support Putin or Russia (you must remember a lot of Russians do not support Putin - they just feel there's not other options) see it as validation of their stance, and shifting of world order from left leaning globalist democracies, towards the rise of new world order which would reward ambitious power and land grabs by authoritarian leaders, as well as return to more conservative values. They see MAGA and Trump as a proof this shift happenning in America and ofcourse they wellcome it.
