Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.

De term hakken is Internationaal niet bekend. Dit is echt een Nederlandse term. Als je het over hakken hebt, zullen de meeste mensen uit het buitenland denken dat we de Hakka (ceremoniële dans uit Nieuw Zeeland) bedoelen.

Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father (papa) said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision (Euro) Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. There is even a reference to Max Verstappen. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man training with weights represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The windmill is near where he spend his youth so also a trip trough memory lane to him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not be stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation. And "Europapa" is short for Eurovision Song contest and papa (dad). There are layers all trough the song and the video clip.

Thank you for your reaction. 12 points to The Netherlands. The winner of the Eurovision Songcontest 2024. This is a masterpiece. Euro papa= Euro dad, because papa is dad in Dutch. A sad song with lyrics with a meaning, with a message, in a happy hardcore melody. A letter to his father who died when he was a 12 year old child. His mother past away a year later. He promised his father that he will be someday on the Eurovision Songcontest stage. His father told him that it is possible because there are no borders between the countries, and no limits to follow his dream. Borders and limitations are made by human. In every country he went, he felt the pain and grief of no having his parents. The fire symbolise letting go of the grief and pain, and the start of a new chapter in his live.

The Eurovision Songcontest is NOT a talentshow and this one is not a promo_music-clip. This is the Dutch entry to the contest. Its about Europe coming together, each country sending in an artist and special song to represent their country. The official jurors of each country give points and there is also televoting meaning everybody in Europe can call in and give points to the song/country they think is best. The countries can send professional singers/bands or send people who won a talentshow, free choice for each country.

It's all very Dutch but also very European connected. Further it's fun but also deeper layered. It's very catchy and the video is high quality. Most of what he sings/raps is in rhyme. The music starts with what's called 'happy hardcore', but then the (after the guy on the tv screen) 'hardcore' music steps in. These are both types of Dutch house music. The last type has been typical for the Rotterdam (NL) house scene and culture of the 90's. The way they danced (hakken) and also how they dressed (Nike Air, Australian track suits, bold heads, girls with pony tails sometimes part of their hair also shaved). They called themselves (and were called) 'gabbers' (mates/friends). Who would have ever thought that house music would be accepted as entry for Eurovision. So nostalgic. I ❤ it.

This Eurovision song has great momentum and global reach at the moment. To be honest I would prolly advise to ride this some more. Has quite some exposure potential for smaller channels and till 8th of May (Finals date) it will gain reach. Idk. Do a "producer indepth analysis of Europapa's success" or look even pick up some info about the old school of hardcore. "Foundation of an EDM banger" Hell you could even mix some in your style with hints of this song and people lap it up 😄 Wish you best of luck with the career. Greets from across the pond.
