Something that makes me eternally salty is that there's no version of "The Beauty Underneath" (from the Love Never Dies musical - good songs, plot not that good) with the right vampiric vibe! The song can be interpreted as a vampire hinting at their nature with barely veiled metaphors to someone who seems willing, until it's obvious they've misunderstood, screaming at the end when the vampire shows them the actual beauty underneath (a.k.a. lets their fangs show). Take a look at these lyrics the Phantom sings. Why does it look like a vampire checking if their potential childe understands what they're getting into? "Do you find yourself beguiled by the dangerous and wild? Do you feed on the need for the beauty underneath? Have you felt your senses surge and surrendered to the urge? And been hooked as you looked at the beauty underneath? When you stare behind the night, can you glimpse its primal might? Might you hunger to possess, Hunger that you can't repress?"

I love how the lyrics really make you wonder what the greater underlying story could be

This song stayed with me all day after hearing it. Usually when that happens it’s because of some depth in the lyrics or an emotional feeling, but this has stuck with me just because...It...fucking...SLAPS. Like seriously I just listen to it and I’m in awe of how dope it sounds. That piano part takes my breath away while simultaneously making me wanna dance.

This performance is so deliciously over-the-top. The song is over, but I haven't stopped grinning like an idiot.

the version they sing on the streets is simplified and stripped back, but when you become a vampire and have your first vampire ball, this is the version that they play for all the newcomers
