Just for anyone who’s like is Jonathan as nice as he seems? The answer is no, he’s so much nicer. He came to my production of Spring Awakening directed by a friend of his and talked to me at a bar for several hours, just incredible generous.

@Riley Rayburn Not to be obnoxious, but "notoriety" means being famous for something bad. Groff hasn't done anything bad & isn't notorious for anything: he's been *famous* for many, many years (in NYC, ever since he played Melchior in "Spring Awakening" on Broadway). He became properly famous in 2009 outside NY when he joined the cast of "Glee." I'm looking forward to seeing "Merrily" again' the off-Broadway production was excellent, though Daniel Radcliff is not really a singer, and when he's performing with people like Mendez and Groff it shows.

Now, it's going to Broadway, at the Hudson Theater. Not sure when it opens, but I'm seeing it iin Sept 2023 (the tix are pretty pricey, even for Broadway - I bought the cheapest tickets and they were $155 each - the tickets only go uo from there.

Dear Seth, Merrily was the first new collaboration between Sondheim and the legendary director Hal Prince since their triumph, Sweeney Todd, in 1979. However. It followed a decade in which they'd been the composer/lyricist and director behind 5 of the most daring musicals ever made, which won a combined 30% of the Best Musical Tonys and 45% of the Tonys for Best Score (in one year, the Score category was separated into Best Music and Best Lyrics, both of which were awarded to Sondheim). This is in addition to Prince's many successes outside of his Sondheim partnership (the Candide revival; On the 20th Century; Evita; and others). Resentment was growing. In addition, some questionable choices were made in the design and casting of the show, along with the fateful decision to skip out-of-town tryouts and conduct previews in New York. As a result, the theatre community was mostly out for blood. The schadenfreude is palpable in the 1981 reviews (apart from Frank Rich, who's clearly anguished by the failure). So no. I wouldn't say there's always been a market for the original Merrily. Instead, the show was revised and revamped a few years later in a La Jolla Playhouse production that resulted in the version that's been licensed ever since. And *that* version has been breaking people's hearts for nearly four decades.

Love Jonathan Groff. The movie based on the book 'The Cabin at the End of the World' was absolutely butchered and made for some particular audience who wants a conclusive ending without using brains.

@@jeffdroog It is what is known as a "common misconception." The fact that it is common does not mean that it is not a misconception. That's the whole point. Also, are you at all familiar with the Corrections segment of Late Night? (Don't answer, that's a rhetorical question.)

@J B Well, considering the words champing, and chomping, mean the exact same thing,I'd say you're absolutely,100%,incorrect lol Just because you want something to be right, doesn't mean that it has to be.If I said,"he was going crazy like a rabid wolf in a glass store" you'd gain the same information as "he was going crazy like a bull in a China shop" ...Making both things correct lol It may not necessarily be the most common turn of phrase, but its similar meaning, and being understood the same by the audience, makes it functionally the same.Language is used to convey a particular message. If your particular message is accurately converyed to your intended audience, your use of the language is correct.

CORRECTION: at 7:16 Jonathan gets around to correcting Seth by referring to M. Night Shyamalan simply as "Night." Whereas Seth repeatedly calls him "M. Night." When someone initializes their first name, it's a sign that they don't go by it, and certainly, not be called by the initial. Friends and co-workers with John F. Kennedy wouldn't regularly address him by saying, "Hi, John F." In that case, the "F" is not used with the first name, but only formally in the third person. And so, Mr. Shyamalan's co-workers don't call him "Emnight," but just "Night." It's the name he goes by.
