Frakes is amazing! I had my TARDIS at a local con here in Knoxville years ago and he walked up on a Sunday when it was quiet and asked if he could get his picture in it. LOL I posted that photo and about blew up the internet! Last Summer my wife and I were flying home from Scotland, we were in JFK airport trying to get a plane home to TN and Frakes walked by, saw me staring at him and he walked over with a smile and we fist bumped. I reminded him of the TARDIS story and he pretended to remember me. What a classy guy!

Aw, love that he knew the TARDIS and wanted a pic in it. There was a comic series of Next Generation meeting the 11th Doctor (which had flashback parts to TOS meeting the Fourth Doctor) some years ago with a Borg and Cybermen alliance. Was fun. :)

Either way, the exchange was kind and I hope he comes back to Knoxville one day so I can remind him of our airport encounter as well! LOL

Okay my favorite episode so far. Jonathan Frakes is so personable, down-to-earth and informative. In person, he's kind, smart and above all loves his fans and always makes everyone around him laugh. His sense of humor and charm are infectious. Oh, and he's an amazing director and very versatile actor too! Bravo Michael and thank you Jonathan!

I met him at a Con and he was one of the most gracious people I've met. Took him time with everyone who wanted an autograph. I was tongue tied so I only took up about a minute.

One thing I gotta say is that I love Frake’s voice. There’s something about the sound and the timber of it. I wish somebody had asked a question about his time voice acting on Gargoyles as David Xanatos with other Star Trek folks also voicing on that show.

I've talked to Marina Sirtis about Gargoyles and apparently she had a great time: "I got to work in my sweatpants, which was good, because they had the BEST craft services." 😂

God Jonathan is a good interview. I suppose years and years of cons and answering every conceivable question has made him good at it… but it strikes me that he’s just about the most personable guy on the planet. It’s any wonder the TNG cast have stayed friends for so long… they really did manage to find some of the greatest people in the industry and slap em together for that show.

Jonathan Frakes is just so engaged and at the same time just so low key, hanging out, easy talking like he's known you forever. I imagine he's probably just one of the greatest people to know in real life.

Frakes has the best smile of anyone in the world. Every time he smiles it melts my heart.

In all my years of watching and loving Frakes.... I've never heard him drop F bombs.... I LOVE IT! Great conversation!

I grew up with TNG, am 38 and I still love it. I rewatch the whole thing star to finish every few years. This final season of Picard is gonna leave me in bits when it finishes…. Jonathan Frakes is a legend, the No. 1 line between Riker & Picard was 👌🏻

Me too! I also watched that show when I was young. It was inspirational. I really like his voice - and only discovered who the actor was when I started watching Star Treck (recently, I wasn't a big TV watcher at all, for much of my life) and I noticed the voice - and learned it was Jonathan Frakes!

I've heard Brent's impression of Patrick is so good that every time Data had to imitate Picard on TNG, that was just Brent doing the voice.

Oh yeah, there are plenty of videos on KZread of Brent imitating Patrick or showing up to his convention panels and pranking him. They’re fantastic.

I lost my brother ten years ago and my father never recovered...he died six months later. I know feel these gentlemen's experiences of losses.

I love that he's like: Well, if this is a home, imma take off my shoes and put my feet on the table. Very much like how he'd swing his leg over a chair as Riker. I'm here, so I'll be comfortable. 💗

Jonathan Frakes has such an amazing voice. I could listen to him for hours. David Xanatos is one of the best villains in fiction.

Mr Frakes most underrated work was as executive producer and director on Roswell - easily the most underrated WB show from the late 90s/early 00s. He even appeared on one episode.

The pot story was the best thing I’ve ever heard. What a warm genuine man, all the interviews I’ve watched here are great but the calm self-possessed Frakes is a joy to behold. You can see the playfulness he brought to Ryker still has that mischievous twinkle in his eye! 😂

Always loved how his natural humor comes through as Riker. You can tell he wants to simply burst out laughing but can't. I think most actors are full of themselves but Mr. Frakes seems to down to earth and genuine.

Frakes was the first guest I ever met at a comic con. Absolutely amazing man. Thanks so much for the interview.

I first saw Frakes in the 1980's THE TWILIGHT ZONE episode "Can She Type?". This episode aired a few months before TNG was premiered. He is a legend in his own right!

Frakes seems so down to earth. I'd love to meet him and thank him for making my youth so much better.

I was raised on Next Gen. I particularly remember being sad down next to my dad and marveling at their make believe world. When my father passed of a heart attack, I rewatched from episode one. Man, I have to say this show really holds up where a lot of other from the same time just don't have the staying power. Frakes is a class act, can't wait to see you two speak again.

I'm making my way through the series now, cause I grew up watching it but I never saw it from beginning to end, only episodes here and there. I thought I wouldn't enjoy the first couple of seasons cause of how old it was and how it looked compared to the later seasons but, man, there were some REALLY good episodes in those earlier seasons.

Babylon 5 isn't bad either. Lower budget than star trek though

I CAN NOT GET OVER HOW F*CKING HONEST THESE TWO ARE WITH ONE ANOTHER - IT"S GREAT!. Just two experienced people who worked hard talking shop. Frake and Rosenbaum are both examples of a "worker's actor". In it for the grind and the love of doing it and knowing their worth and weaknesses. Awesome.

First class TV series! Loved it too. Even third season in 1994 with Jonathan and Genie comeback was good either.

I've adored this man since I was in 8th grade, when my history teacher played North and South! He's such a genuine person and I love that he and Genie Francis are still going strong!

I remember having a bedtime after MacGyver ended at 9pm on Mondays. After which my mother would put me to bed and go to bed herself. A few minutes later my father, unbeknownst to my mother, would open my bedroom door to let me know the coast was clear. For the entire seven seasons my father and I would watch The Next Generation, past my bedtime, where I fell in love for an optimistic view of the future. Years later, I told this story at a family reunion and my mother turned and slapped my father in the arm saying, "that's why he was so hard to wake up on Tuesday mornings!" Thank you Jonathan et al for the fond memories. And quite the calibration for a glass half full view of reality. That we, as humans, indeed play the most important role of what our future holds. I love you all so much. Cheers.

I grew up loving Riker on TNG. It's great to see how genuine of a person he appears to be.

Met Jonathan at an airport, and he was so kind. They say never meet your heroes, but I'm thankful to meet one of mine because he was just so great. Really great interview.

What a guy!! Ok, so Nathan Fillion is still my favorite guest, but Jonathan is a very, very close second. Class act, top shelf!! These are the guys you want to sit on a boat with for 12 hours and then do it all over again the next day. I love that he drops the F bomb like a normal freaking person. I cannot tell you how much I would love to meet this guy and share ALL my ideas for books, shows and shorts. I just finished listening to this episode and it was delightful. Jonathan definitely opened up and I definitely learned so much about him. It was sad to hear how his brother died. The stories that he told about his dad were very touching. I definitely learned something new about Sir Patrick Stewart. Who knew there was wrestling that happened on set. Definitely have him on again. Have a great day.

I met Mr Frakes at a convention and he was the most down to earth, nicest guy ever. He jumped down into the crowd after the panel and just smooshed. I got to talk to him for about half an hour and he never once made me feel he was being put upon. He genuinely likes talking to the fans.

Frakes is the GOAT. He and Brent Spiner were the main reason I watched TNG when I was a kid.

Excited for some TNG talk and hopefully a little bit of North and South mixed in! Loved watching him and others on TNG with my dad growing up 💙

I'm only half way through this episode, but I'd just like to say that First Contact was huge for me, what a movie. I hope he knows how much that movie still means to some of us. TNG was only on the BBC back then, English is not my native language, switched on the subtitles and that's basically how I learned English.

I really love the fact that Jonathan Frakes drops F-bombs so casually. Its refreshing really....

Jonathan Frakes has one of the best voices. Don't know what it is about it, but it's just so smooth.

Still to this day the episodes “masks” and “fistful of Data’s” are my favorite Brent Spiner episodes definitely worth an Emmy award.

a friend recently told me "yeah, I was watching Picard first season the other week and that Jonathan/Riker parts in there: that is how you will be when you're old" xD obviously thats a pretty cool compliment, but seeing the guy here and him almost being that guy in real person - cool, chill, honest, funny, driven but humble and just lovely - makes this an even better goal for the future.

In life we have lots of families; biological, work, etc. It's wonderful for me to see how the Star Trek TNG cast and many others are a big family of "regular people" and not divas! I love this!

I've watched dozens of Frakes interviews. This is easily the best.

I was a huge Star Trek fan in my teens. When I was 13 or 14, I worked for my father’s business to save money to attend a Star Trek convention in my city. Frakes was the celebrity guest. I don’t recall whether he was not doing signings or if the line was too huge, but I didn’t get a chance to meet him...in the venue. I happened to be walking outside just as he was exiting the hotel, about to get into the limo. I found the courage to talk with him, just briefly, and he could not have been more gracious. Always was, and will be, a Riker fan.

The thing I liked most about Frakes was the look of pure enjoyment on his face when the other characters got a truly comedic moment. That and the "Riker sits down" compilation...

Johnathan, as a Trek fan, this IS just like the opening of First Contact. Watched the first three episodes, and they're amazing. I've got THAT feeling again. Thanks to all of you!!!

I've been a Star Trek fan for 50 years. Riker is not my most favorite character, although I do really like him. But Jon Frakes is - hands down - my favorite cast member. He just seems like a good guy, a great friend, and an awesome leader. And of course a terrific storyteller. He figured out early on how to interact with the fans and give them a great time. Some might see it as merely performative but Frakes sees it as respectful and appreciative. And he's just keeping it real - the fans paid for his kids' medical bills and college.

I always thought the imaginary rivalry was something the media created. I've never ever seen anything that remotely came close to a rivalry. A lot of people liked both. One was fantasy, one was sci-fi, but both were good.

Michael, this interview is the perfect example of how your podcast humanizes and deconstructs some of the people who I previously only viewed as the roles that they played in some of my favorite TV shows. This was a joy to watch.

I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Frakes in person at Comiccon Montreal in 2014, along with many actors from the cast of TNG. I was lucky enough to arrive later in the day so there were no lines to get an autograph. I had a good 10 minute conversation with both him and Mr. Dorn. Not gonna lie, felt like pretty special moments for me. Great person to have a conversation with, well spoken and just great. Great episode!

This was amazing, loved every minute of it. Crazy how down to earth, cool and personable Jonathan is. Season 3 of Picard has been nothing short of fantastic, enjoyed every episode so far, such a great send off of the TNG Crew.

I'm only partially familiar with the Star Trek world, but I remember watching Jonathan in The Next Generation and then more recently in Picard, but I had no idea he directed too, and just how much he has directed, he has worked on everything. I thought this was a really lovely episode, I loved hearing him talk about his dad and his brother so sweetly and openly. I think the thing that came across the most for me about Jonathan was his warmth, I love the way he relaxes and takes his shoes off, so comfortable with himself and others, how he is curious and asks questions, and he seems to love to share the fondness and love he has for others, like the way he gently insisted on complimenting Michael, and sharing with him the nice things others had said. This was just a really lovely episode to listen to, and it has made me want to go and watch more Star Trek ❤ (Also, I'm not convinced he is 70 😄). Thank you Jonathan, and thank you Michael and Ryan

Jon Frakes….. is a treasure. I always love seeing him do interviews and find out the inside dish about STNG or just to hear him speak. He def was a crush of mine when I was growing up with Star Trek, learning how NOT to be an asshole in the future. Lol. His beard and shirtless episodes were welcomed. Hehe😅
