I remember him after the AB's lost to the French in the 1999 RWC. He, along with a handful of other All Blacks, clapped the French off the field. That said a lot about the calibre of the man. Rest in Peace big guy. Thanks for the memories.

+Jeremy Pearce A great player, a man whose career could have been even more impressive had it not been blighted by ill health. I'm not sure that I can agree with some of your other sentiments, however, the All Blacks had been putting NZ on the map years before. Think legends like Colin Meads or Waka Nathan, and let's not forget one who put NZ on the sporting map big time, in the shape of Peter Snell. However, what Jonah represented was an international star known by people who knew little about rugby, not only for his devastating play, but also in his recognised stature as a true gentleman.

+tony bennett I don't want to cause too much of a debate - considering the circumstances. So forgive me. You said Colin Meads, Waka Nathan and Peter Snell... ***** Thanks Rasta. I think that Peter Snell was certainly an international star. I remember when he retired, Time magazine ran an article titled "Farewell to Greatness". I think winning Olympic golds in showpiece races ensures that you are recognised worldwide. Anyway Jonah was still a huge star for the sport of RU, rightfully recognised as a great, and the first superstar of the modern rugby era, and an inspiration to the current crop of players.
