Jon Stewart Trashes CNN Again & Again on 'Larry King Live'; Questions Rick Sanchez Firing

(10/20/10) During an appearance on "Larry King Live," Jon Stewart remarks that he thinks that Fox News is: "brilliantly authoritative. They know what they're doing. People would take well to heed how tenacious they are, how bold they are. They express editorial authority."
Furthermore, "I think they're wrong. But I appreciate that they're trying. And, you know, I don't think it's a right and left thing. I don't think that's what's going to be important. I think CNN has a -- an opportunity to be a real arbiter. But being a real arbiter means taking a stand, not just having people on -- you're on the left, you're on the right...both terrific points of view. You know? It's about being authoritative, about earning credibility. CNN, more than anybody, has the infrastructure to be able to accomplish that."
In regards to Fox News: "I think they're tenacious. I think they are confident. And they are -- they are showing the model of how to build an organization that believes in something. I think what they -- I think it is wrong-headed for a news organization. I think they've built an incredible political organization, really effective political organization."
On another note, Stewart denies he was the reason Crossfire was canceled during the time Tucker Carlson represented the Right on the show: "I became an easy excuse for people up top who wanted to get rid of a show that was sort of low ranked."

Yep, and Stewart, in cutting through the crap here again, is dead-on: Fox, bad as it is, knows what it wants to do, while CNN just wants to throw the world up on the screen, given from a very America-centric POV, and see what sticks, making as few editorial (but not business) decisions as possible so as not to offend anyone's idea of "the truth". But if CNN doesn't know what the truth is, how can it possibly judge what news is? Oh right, it can't - which is the problem; random tweets are just as valid as "information and opinion" as speeches from world leaders.

One unfortunate thing about people's views on Stewart (whether they are positive or negative) is that they are usually a whole sale kind of thing. For example, if you don't like Stewart occasionally pushing Progressive agenda points that's cool, I an understand that, but that shouldn't - I believe - take away from the fact that he was one of very few people who was willing to stand up to some pretty big and powerful corporations and say, "You guys are doing it wrong." You could hate the Daily Show, that's fine, to each their own, but I find it hard not to respect Stewart's balls to actually go on these shows and really criticize people and their shows. It's funny I see a lot of comments (not just here but on any board for a Stewart video / article / whatever) where people lump him in with the stereotypical view of the Left being whiny, PC police, but here he clearly gets pretty angry about people who have been fired for tweeting, or saying off color remarks. Something the Right - usually - would align themselves with. It's kind of funny, in the end, the love and hate for Stewart - which is usually a whole sale thing - is exactly the thing he was against for most of his time on the DS. The idea that you are in total agreement or disagreement with someone is a bad thing. So the posts that both hail him as a savior of sorts and also decry him as a destroyer just prove that one of his big points was dead on.

I agree. I love The Daily Show and I think Stewart is hilarious, smart, and one of the most truthful people out there. Except I don't always agree with all of his points on the show. I may lean far to the left as people see it but even somethings he says are way too far for me. Some of the fans I see are just as blind as the people they hate. Love everything he says because he said it. Those are the people I don't understand.

There is one thing I like about Jon Stewart's show that should be implemented in main stream news media. And that is inserting media bites that contradict exactly what a politician is saying. Like Obama continuing with Cuba trade embargos but then flashing back to 2004 when he said that Cuba embargoes should be obolished. That's the kind of news that is informative of the character of the person in question.

I'd be amazed if Obama even knew this program exists! But back to the argument... You are aware that Obama just lifted a bunch of regulations on Cuba right? basically anything that can be lifted without the approval of congress. So yeah... I think its pretty consistent with what he said back in 2004.

@@vince8901 There was nothing in the OPs comment that said they thought he was dead... Their comment used words like "miss" in the correct context...He didn't need to be dead for their comment to make perfect sense as is, without your "correction" After he left the daily show, and before he came back with his show on Apple TV, he took his break, and wasn't doing much of anything in the public eye. It still makes absolute sense to say you miss somebody who hosted a show for well over a decade, and then went off the air, and "retired" for 5-7 years or whatever it was.

Look, the reason's why some people can relate to Trevor Noah and why some people can't relate to Trevor Noah are simple. The people who relate to Trevor Noah understand what it means to work hard and bare increasing responsibility. what it means to defeat inhibition and really take a step into the dark, to really make a change for the good. Some people may dispute that the change Trevor Noah is making is no good. To those I say, ermmmmmmmm, he is making me laugh, he is making my friends laugh, he is making our parents laugh. He is bringing people together by inspiring a quality of goodness. Something, anyone can do but few have such rare opportunity such as Trevor Noah. And look, I don't like to put people on a pedestal at all. I am completely against the idea but given the current state of affairs almost everywhere in the world, where it is almost second nature to step on someone before you yourself get stepped on. I quite like that Trevor Noah has a voice at the daily show, he's that one mate you don't mind seeing everyday at work.

you appreciate jon but you cant see trump is not someone that should represent you??? choose to pay for your mistake or your gop mistakes whatever you want to call it. call this election a lose. you have elections in two years for the lawmakers. in your place i would i either vote democrat or at all. i think you have the right to be republican. you dont have the right to sleep well calling yourself a conservative and then vote for trump. that guy shouldnt be liked by anyone. christian atheists progressives conservatives. he is a liar and a psychopath. he is only successful, because he was born in wealth. guys like this do whatever they to fulfil their own selfish desire. he simply choose to run for republicans, because a lot supporting his agenda are supportive to the party. i am pretty sure he took the party and took a big shit on. if i recall correctly this year was a year that you would open to the minorities and trying to be open to more ppl. i am pretty sure that is what your party was planning before trump was elected dont vote someone you dont believe and is going to destroy the face of your party and usa for years to come. i am an outsider, but i follow this from the beginning and trump is not worthy to run a household let alone a government. also sry for my bad english i was too sleepy while typing this i hope you get my point and i at least made you even a little more sceptical towards this clowns face.

john smith I don't represent republicans nor am I a member of their party. I will simply vote for whoever I think is best suited to the job and will stand for what I believe. If that's a democrat then I will not hesitate in supporting them either. I'm kind of like you - independent but conservative. I believe in our military. I think it's disgraceful that we can give money to other countries and give welfare to criminal illegal aliens whilst there are homeless vets. Trump will change that, Hillary hasn't said a thing about it. I don't believe that we should be attacking rebels that are fighting isis. a common sense approach would be to make an alliance with russia, bomb the shit out of isis and then focus on the rebels but in the mean time we should let the rebels kill isis. I welcome Trumps economics which are to threaten manufacturers such as Ford with huge taxes if they leave the country which will keep jobs here as well as reducing taxes on big businesses so that they won't go overseas where taxes are less. I also believe we should give the unemployed jobs instead of welfare. I think drugs ruin lives and believe stopping them from coming into the country is an important issue. Trump stands for all of the above. Hillary has other beliefs which I appreciate you may believe in. Of the points I mentioned, which ones do you disagree with and why? And honestly I don't care that he says mean things - I will vote for the issues a candidate represents not how hurtful some of his words were

I do not follow Stewarts show or comedy - but I do believe he is spot on with his comments and analysis. CNN has squandered all of its credibility and resources chasing sensational journalism that spikes ratings instead of credible, investigative reporting that simply keeps ratings strong. That guy should not have been fired. FOX laser sighted extremism is something CNN should consider in regards to reporting accurate news. Strong intelligent analysts are drowned out by UFO/bigfoot pundants when they squeezed in between large sections of crazy. I would give Stewart (not sure if he is a journalist at all) a job at CNN (heck do you even really need a journalism degree to even work at 24hour news channels). This is the most honest interview i have seen in years.

It's absolutely hilarious that he makes a comment about "who better to bring in than a guy nobody has heard of and who talks funny?" Literally several years later he does the exact same thing with the daily show by bringing in Trevor Noah. One of the biggest complaints I have about US media is that they keep bringing in people from outside the US to report on the American experience to fellow Americans. Trevor Noah hadn't even lived here a year when he got the show. Yea you can do all the studying you need to but you still will never match the experiences of being American. This is one of the reasons the liberal media has gone so down hill and ratings across the board are at an all time low.

Jon was when comments and critiques were intelligent, insightful, bold, funny (in a humble but daring American way) and classy. Now we know when America started declining. You can literally point the finger at specific places, time and events. I watched this and felt a pang of hurt at what had become of American news and interviews. Thanks Jon...you were classy classic, with knowledge and insights. Hope you find something globally. If I had money I'd hire you, and at any pay you want.

This is why democrats, although not perfect, are better then republicans... O'reily or Hannity would've just gotten loud about the subject then ended the segment. Now lets talk about reinvesting in science and education instead of war... believing in science not religion ... not involving ourselves with foreign affairs without the UN's consent... It's crazy how they make me feel crazy for being sane. How'd that war in the middle east go? You know the one that the UN security council declined the legitimacy of invasion. Elroy Foster Context matters. He said it's a terrible idea for how to save a sinking ship. CNN's ratings and viewership have been falling for decades. The Daily Show is Comedy Central's biggest hit by a long shot (excepting Colbert) and still was at it's end. Also, they tested Trevor. He was on the show and the response to him was wildly positive. Piers was just thrown on haphazardly.
