Jon Stewart shed tears as a group of 9/11 first responders gifted him his late friend’s firefighter jacket.

In US and breaking news, former Daily Show host Jon Stewart broke down in tears after receiving his late friend's firefighter jacket from a group of firefighters on Capitol hill. For Jon Stewart, 9/11 first responders' care is of the utmost importance. Everyone knows the health care system in America needs in improvement, none more so than the 9/11 first responders. Jon Stewart went viral fighting in Congress for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund to be renewed. The 9/11 victims fund helps those injured and sick from being at ground zero on September 11th and after. The Jon Stewart congress moment went viral, and this NowThis News video showing what happened after is just as newsworthy.

@@DJBillionator Comparing this to athletic competition is not even apples to oranges. This is a straw man argument. Jon Stewart was not competing with anybody, the 'worthy' make themselves self evident as the winners, in competition. Competition by nature is very self rewarding, Jon Stewart was fighting for others. Those involved in a selfless act rarely see themselves worthy of praise. The only thing that may come close to a selfless act in sports is passing the ball to somebody with a better shot, when perhaps your own look isn't terrible. But even that is in service of your own team.

Jon Stewart aka “Jon Leibowitz” knew what was going to happen on 9/11. As did several other Jewish people who hold dual citizenship while serving as members of Congress. Because of that - integrity and honesty are needed far more than any policy. And key 🔑 to that integrity and honesty would be pushing for fully qualified candidates for the future - who come with the honesty and integrity worthy of the office (along with serious-minded policies to boot).

@@hamschh Jon Stewart would be the first to agree with you. He *was not* one of those who responded that day. But he saw them, and he supported them. And when the government did what bad governments do, and wore those men like cheap suits on camera for photoshoots and campaign slogans, Jon pointed it out. When the government did what bad governments do, and forgot about these responders existed by the next news cycle, Jon pointed it out. When the government did what bad governments do, and refused to help these people who were now dealing with injuries and illnesses the contracted from doing the very heroic act that the politicians exploited them for, Jon went on the air, on a comedy show, and instead of telling a joke, HE POINTED IT OUT. He has spoken out for these men and women constantly. He has walked and fought with them, side by side, trying to get them the justice and the care they most desperately need. Even when others forgot about them, or abandoned them, he hasn't. He's added his influence, and here he is doing it again. No one would have heard about these hearings if Jon wasn't on screen. So, I say again, Jon would be the first to agree with you. It should be the first responders up on the screen getting the help they need, that they earned a thousand times over in one morning, and at a terrible price. But I guarantee you, those first responds would disagree ENTIRELY. They would tell you that he IS one of them. This video was about them TELLING HIM they embrace him as one of their ow . No, he was not there that morning or in the weeks that followed in the pile. But he WAS there for almost two decades and he had their backs. You disrespect him? Then you disrespect them.

@@jonsubs9998 Stewart is more than just a comedian. He's a comedian, writer, producer, director, activist, political commentator, actor, and television host. He sometimes used _The Daily Show_ to argue for causes such as the treatment of veterans and 9/11 first responders. He is credited with breaking a Senate deadlock over a bill to provide health care and benefits for 9/11 emergency workers; the bill passed three days after he featured a group of 9/11 responders on the show. In March 2009, he criticized a White House proposal to remove veterans from Veterans Administration rolls if they had private health insurance; the White House dropped the plan the next day. In February 2019 and June 2019 he again went to Congress to oppose a planned cut in pay-outs to 9/11 responders and to lobby for permanent funding for the Victims Compensation Fund, set to expire in 2020, delivering a tearful testimony. They deserve their healthcare for fighting all those fires and putting themselves at risk during 9/11. That's what they got because Jon pushed for them with sincerity and strength of his person. He may not have earned the kind of pride the first responders earned during their work, but he definitely earned this token of their appreciation. He's given more of his time and passion than anyone could reasonably have expected of him, definitely more than anyone else has. Why should it be on him to pay for this when the people he's advocating for gave their health and lives for their communities? Surely their communities and their country should give back to them in their time of need, and not rely one man to do so. But then I see men & women who’ve remained solid in integrity and conviction, who’ve humbly and empathetically come alongside those who are hurt, sick and broken, who’ve remained faithful and steadfast year upon year and hearing after hearing, who’ve tirelessly continued to speak truth to ears that don’t want to listen, who simply fight the good fight because it’s the right thing to do. And my hope is re-kindled. And I am reminded that I, too, must take my place in the battle and fulfill my role as a daughter of the nation. Thank you, Jon Stewart.
