Congrats to Big Jon, as he retired today! An absolute iron horse on the mound, and the biggest free agent signing in the history of the Chicago Cubs. What a beast.
Fourth no-hitter caught by Jason Varitek, too.
Throwing a no hitter with Manny in LF and Lugo at SS really is an accomplishment

One of my top-five favorite modern Fenway moments.I think this was about a year or so after he underwent treatment for cancer and to see him share that hug with Tito at the end still makes me emotional.
That embrace between “Tito” and Lester always gets me!!!

Lester was almost like a son to Tito... after everything Lester had been through a couple seasons before with a stunning cancer diagnosis, it made them very close, so this no-hitter from Tito's perspective had to be like a proud parent watching someone who had grown up right in front of their eyes accomplish something extremely special as part of his continued comeback story. Can't help but tear up either watching that incredible moment between the two at the end of this
I remember watching this game on tv and asking my dad why nobody was talking to him in the dugout because I had never watched anybody pitch a no hitter before, easily one of the top 10 reasons I was proud to be a sox fan over the years
Imagine having Lester, Sale, and Price.

Sox wouldn't have Price if Lester stayed
I miss Lester. Still my favorite pitcher tho
No better feeling than throwing a no-hitter and the last pitch being a strikeout on a high heater, just magical
Tito, Lester, Youk, Pedey, Lowell, Manny, Papi, Coco, and young Ellsbury... Man what a trip back in time
What's amazing about this is the last pitch to get the final out was his hardest of the night (96 mph).
Boston fans miss you, Lester.

As a Cubs fan, I love Jon...but I'm in awe...the no-hitter comes as no surprise, but I can't believe he threw to first on the first come-backer 😅

James K Without theowing to the base and letting runners basically rape him when they are on base (i am a Cubs for life btw), i qm baffled he could throw a no hitter.

@@cool3929 Sorry to hear that ( that you're a Baby Bears fan).
Man this takes me back. The Sox lineup back then was so legendary.
Happ Retirement Jon! You were a fan favorite for many years! ( maybe not to your opponents lol). Loved when you played for the Red Sox! ⚾
Man I lost my love for baseball tbh but I’m really getting back into and remembering all my favorite players from back in the day is awesome man Jon Lester and clay B were such legends to me back then always wished I was a lefty so I could be just like Lester great times man
Mike Lowell what a legend

Man!!! Lowell was such an asset for the Sox.
I remember watching this when I was 13 years old. So damn cool, he was my favorite pitcher ever I hated when the Red Sox traded him. This game was awesome I have this newspaper
I want him back so much
My brother was at this game and believe it or not he left the game in the sixth inning because the girl he went to the game with was complaining she was cold. I couldn't believe it when he told me. Every diehard fan dreams of seeing a no hitter, and here he walks out of one. Funny thing is, this wasn't the first historic Sox game he walked out of. He also left Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS game against the Yankees (the Dave Roberts steal game). I was watching the Patriots-Falcons Super Bowl with him at my house and when the Pats fell behind 28-3 I was kidding him, saying "I wish you were at the game so you could walk out, because then they'd come back for sure".

First no hitter by a Boston Red Sox left handed pitcher in 63 years.
To this day, only Jon Lester and Nolan Ryan have thrown no-hitters against the Royals. Not bad company at all.
Only the second no hitter against the Royals in their history (Nolan Ryan, May 15th, 1973 vs the rookie George Brett).
This was his 1st no hitter after recovering from cancer
I threw a perfect game against them in MLB
I miss Tito :(
