You can definitely argue that he lost, but it was close so either way works. I believe Jon when he said he didn't train for his fight though, it's pretty obvious. He also didn't start the fight trying to win as quickly as possible with the best game plan. I mean if he showed up trained like he did vs Gane trying to win as quickly as possible then I think Jon wins in 1 round. Reyes was not a super great fighter, imagine how fast Cormier would destroy Gane. For whatever reason Jon is known to underestimate guys who aren't at the top. St preux, 1st gustfasson, and dos santos. He didn't train for most of those fights.

Not sure how much of that is the power of the strike scrambling equilibrium vs. the timing of landing an fairly ordinary punch, damage-wise, while the opponent has their worst balance possible.

Jones showed insane durability in the Reyes fight. Gustafsson fight was very close too but Gus or Cormier don't punch as hard as Reyes by any means. Jones not only is highly skilled&intelligent he also proved he is insanely durable and tough.

@@kenwalter3892 I’d say Dom 3-2 is a fair call. Jon’s takedowns don’t mean much, because he didn’t get much out of them and he never held him down for any meaningful amount of time. Irrespective, damage trumps all, including takedowns and control. Dom landed the harder shots across 3 rounds at least I’d say.

He almost matched reyes on the feet tho.. jones only got outstruck by like 8 punches if not for the takedowns he got in the 4th and 5th you might be right. But jon took this one when he landed 105 punches and took him down twice in a row.

Did jones do a little juice along the way(yes) but what UFC fighter hasn't? Most just know when to and when not to stop using it. Fedor lost 5 fights. Jones one disqualification(Hamil) sucks when he had the fight in the bag already? There are a lot of greats. I could go on, but everyone has an opinion and yours is being heard and I'll live with that.

Agreed he is one of the best fighters ever, but this was not s good one for him. I give great credit to Reyes though. Jon just didn't show up IMO.

My analysis regarding this fight Round 1:- Dominic dominated Round 2:- jon dominated Round 3:- Dominic Dominated Round 4:- it was quite close but Dominic dominated again Round 5:- it was quite close again but jon dominates slightly Overall summary Dominic dominates 3 rounds and jones dominates 2, every take down that jones tries fails terrible by getting countered by Dominic, Dominic was the aggressor and counter attacks more shots and strikes than jon overall it was a corrupt decision by the judges. Dominic deserved to win my unanimous decision.

What people seem to forget is that scoring is not only about significant strikes and takedowns. If so, Reyes would have won but still very close. What also counts in judging is the octagon control and the one advancing. Jones was going forward the whole fight (44% advancing for Jones against 9% advancing for Reyes near the end). I think that's why Jones won this one.

Jones rehydrated to around 230 or more here it seems like. He looks almost as big here as he did against Gane. In his earlier fights against Rampage, Shogun, Machida, he looks a lot leaner and tighter. Obviously he was younger in those fights and more youthful.

I feel like you fools judge Jones fights on a curve where because his opponent actually lasted all 5 rounds rather than KO’d with a head kick or spinning back fist in Rd 1 like his prime- that means his opponent won the fight? A lot of Reyes strikes they were hyping up were just glancing. Jones had 3-4 takedowns and Reyes had none. Jones took 95% of forward moving steps while Reyes spent the entire fight on the run. Reyes was gassed and if the fight had gone another round he would have been KO’d. Lastly, Jon Jones was the current LHW CHAMP in this fight- the challenger needs to TAKE the belt from the champ. Reyes strategy was to play it very safe, make it through 5 rounds, and go to judges decision- that’s a bitch move and never one that should be rewarded with being gifted the champ’s belt.

@@LiveFreeOrDie2A Immediate damage trumps everything else, under modern scoring and Jon got beat there for 3 rounds and wasn't even close to getting any 10-8's, so how'd he win other than because he's a black American and so are you? It's like watching guys named "Luis Mansayo" talk about how Pacquiao actually beat Floyd because shots on his guard were technically body shots or "Damon King" analyzing how Tyson Fury's gloves moved when they were breaking Wilder's face to say they were loaded. The entire comment section across every video or post about this fight says Jon pulled a GSP vs Hendricks to a T, except for you; won a fight he lost, retired immediately in his prime, and come back years later to pick up a belt from a guy who shouldn't be champion. He's still in the process of the last one.

Now you're exaggerating. Technically he has 1 official loss. Most people disagree with you anyway, so your opinion is irrelevant. This is the only fight that you can even argue he lost in my opinion. You can also argue this as a win vs Jones, but if he lost any fight it was this one. Everything else you're just wrong about and being biased. That said, Hamil is his loss, so it stops there officially. You should believe Jon when he said he didn't train for Reyes. I mean if Jon came in trained like he did for Gane trying to win as fast as possible instead of screwing around on the feet than he almost definitely beats Reyes in 1 round. Can you imagine how fast Cormier would destroy Reyes? Reyes is not even a great fighter.

Round three is a draw in terms of points, people dont realise how many shots Reyes missed or were blocked. The striked landed for both are equal but Jones with clinch, two takedown attempts and allmost a full round of pressure / octogan control made him win that round.

Reyes venceu.

When I 1st seen this I thought Reyes won but as I rewatched it 6 times on different videos i understand why jones won, Jon controlled the whole fight Reyes got some clean shots but he was on the defensive end tryna stay alive

I don’t think it’s a robbery, but I had Reyes winning the first 3; he outstruck him all three, kept it standing and even knocked him down. Jon has forward pressure but not have the output of Dom.

The fight that jones stans want you to forget about...

I really don't understand how so many people think Reyes won. He landed literally like 5 more significant strikes and attempted over 90 more. Jones was WAY more efficient and didn't throw just to throw, he threw with calculation and landed over 60% of his shots to Reyes' 40%. Jones also landed 2 takedowns, had 2 minutes of ground control to Reyes' zero, and had Reyes backing up for the majority of the fight. I don't get it. Seems like a lot of people have no idea how scoring works and think it's just about landing more significant strikes.

He still got hit up 5 more times why does it matter if he threw 90 blows more , it’s like playing basketball at the arcade they ain’t gonna count the ones you missed only the ones you made , so if Jon jones got knocked out he would still win since he is going forward 😂😂 damn near the judges are paid off

Thank you! People need to realize how important it is to MIX the fight. The pressure, and takedown along with ground control is literally what got him the W.. Time n time we have seen this

ROBBERY 116 significant strikes vs 104 for Jones. Definitely more damage by Reyes. That was 3 years ago. Ciryl Gane will outstrike Jones and KO him easily in less than 2 rounds. How crazy can you be to move up to HW with ZERO experience in that division against a guy who has a great fight IQ, more speed, more power, more footwork, more feints and and just 1 loss (that can be disputed since 63 significant strikes vs 43 and the take downs were no damage inflicted to Gane). I am pretty sure Jones is scared despite Cejudo and fans flatter him how good he is.

Reyes fought beautifully. That was some bad judging!

A lot of strikes from Reyes weren’t clean.he missed more Jon might have landed less but through wayyyy less. I think Jon just wanted to wind Reyes but he hand the stamina Jon wasn’t expecting I feel like if it was an actual brawl Reyes would’ve gotten thrashed
