    How is the entirety of the MMA community not unified in wanting to see Jones (champion) fight Tom (interim champion)? Like seriously, you would think that some things are super clear cut and without question, yet here we are with fanboys defending Jones. Yikes man. This shouldn’t even be a conversation. Jones haters should want him to fight a legit heavyweight (Tom). And Jones fanboys should want him to fight the clearcut #1 contender (the interim champ). Any deviation from this is just silly. I get it, “it’s pRiZe fIghTinG!”, but we have to have some semblance of structure.

  • @SergioMendoza760

    @SergioMendoza760

    I agree but I just don’t think we’re going to get it for whatever dumb reason they ultimately try to feed us. While I understand that SOMEONE needed to be champ during Jon’s injury, I cannot fathom why the ufc decision makers ultimately decided to make Tom an interim champ if they are never going to give Tom the chance to fight Jon. There was literally no point to any of this and that’s going to be extra true if Tom never gets to be a real champ and defend his belt. Whether people think it’s stupid or not the whole point of having an interim champ is so we have a champ while the current one is out. And I think Tom at the very bare minimum wants to be paid like a champ while he has a title regardless of who it is he’s fighting, and I don’t blame him he has every right to want that ppv bonus. But I still don’t think they’re going to give Tom the fight when it ultimately comes down to it. I think this plays out exactly the way we think it will. Jon will come back and have a fight announcement here soon, again matched with Stipe. Then everyone’s going to complain and Jon will either get butt hurt and start playing the “I’m going to retire soon” song and dance or he’ll just utterly deflect Tom and treat him like a nobody again. All of this will likely happen before Curtis Blaydes and Tom get put together OR Ciryl Gane and Tom. Either way I don’t think Tom has a single opponent that isn’t Jon or Curtis Blaydes and I think that’s the problem. I think that’s exactly why they haven’t given him a match since Pavolich. I also hope to Christ the UFC tries to save Alex from Jon and instead does whoever’s current champ vs Poatan after Jon is gone. I really hope they’re not too dumb to blow their load now and piss a bunch of people off in the process lol.

    @@jhonwayne1003 that’s not the point. And even if that is mostly true with what you said regarding Jon’s former opponents that’s not what’s being argued here. We’ve never had an interim champ get passed over for a different #1 contender before, whether that came from an injury that delayed an initial fight or not, it’s never happened. At least not that I can remember and regardless Tom should not have been made an interim champ if he wasn’t going to ultimately get to fight Jon or at the very bare minimum get to defend his belt and get paid a ton of money for having a title on a ppv. And for all intents and purposes not to be rude to Stipe, but the guy is absolutely at the end of his rope. Feeding him to Jon for his last fight, even if it’s for a hefty paycheck is still kinda unfair to him. He’s a lamb to slaughter and there’s no other way to look at it. Tom on the other hand is young and ready to go, he’s the interim champ and will be around far longer than Jon or Stipe. And that’s the whole point for the argument, Tom should at the very least be told that he will be fighting for the championship in his next fight no matter what happens.

    @@jhonwayne1003 that’s a fair argument and that’s what I said in my initial comment. If he’s ultimately not going to be told that he’s fighting for the unified belt next, then give him Blaydes or Gane right now. He took no damage against Pavolich there’s no reason why he can’t fight. Although admittedly I don’t think the ufc want to put Gane in there if they can help it he’s kinda a massive dud.

    Jones is trying to duck Aspinall and fight Pereira for good reason. Look at the statleader tables of MMA fighters over the last 30 years covering over 4050 fighters with top ten rankings in 32 tables. Aspinall is the leader for all fighters over the last 30 years. He has 4 first positions in some of the most important areas. 1st for shortest avg fight time at 2:10, 1st for best striking differential at 4.95, 1st for least bottom position time, 1st for least bottom position %. Aspinall is 4th for strikes landed per minute at 7.72 and 4th for knockdowns per 15 mins. Oliveira, GSP and Miller are 2nd overall with three 1st positions each, mostly within legacy rather than skills based tables. Jones is impressive, especially with legacy tables and has one first position for most title defences and has 3= for win streak and 9th= for number of wins. He has great takedown defence - he is 2nd with 95% (Tom is 100%) and 3rd for bottom position % (Tom is 1st). However, for sheer danger, Aspinall has all finishes and no decisions with 11 KO/TKOs and 3 submissions. His only loss in the UFC came through leg injury 20 second into fight with Blaydes. Jones is dominant for wins though he has chosen his opponents and only fought 1 fight against a taller opponent and one fight in LHW against a younger opponent. Jones isn't a great finisher with 10 wins by decision (some by split decision), 6 by submissions and 5 by KO/TKO - around 47% by decision. Some talk of Pereira being the best striker at present with great accuracy. They look at the powercube result for hardest punch - now exceded by Aspinall training partner Eddie Hall. Jones sees Pereira as best opponent for him - another kick boxer like Gane with no grappling but with more KO power coming up from two divisions below. Pereira appears in one statleader top ten table. He is 4th for significant strike accuracy with 62%. Jones appears in no striking tables. Aspinall has 67% accuracy and so would be second best ever after Overeem, but doesn't reach the 350 strike threshold to appear in strike accuracy table. Tom has needed a total of 134 strikes to win his 14 fights. Pereira is such a fantastic ko artist he has two decision victories and a loss to Stylebender out of 8 total fights in the ufc and a total of 416 strikes in UFC. Pereira has average takedown defence at 70% despite not fighting grapplers. He has poor strike differential - he gets hit a lot and needs far more strikes to win. Pereira does have 100% takedown accuracy for one takedown attempted. Aspinall also has 100% takedown accuracy and 100% takedown defence but finishes fights too quickly to appear in tables. Most compelling fight is aspinall v jones. Both are all rounders with lots of attributes rated in the top ten tables across all divisions. Aspinall is the most dominant name in striking tables followed by Pavlovich who has a 1st for knockdowns per 15 mins, 2nd for shortest average fight time, 2nd for strikes per minute, 7th for strike differential. The next most dominant for striking is O Malley who is 5th for strike accuracy, 5th for strikes per minute and 3rd for striking differential.

    That rule about interim champion goes both ways. By the same rule, Jon HAS to fight Tom as a champion to become undisputed. Since the UFC allowed there to be an interim champion, then it maintains until they resolve the dispute . Jon, equally when he comes back, should be stripped as per rules of UFC he is taking on another opponet when his championship remains disputed.

    You are not the only one who can see it. Believe me when I say that no one in the UFC top brass wants Tom to be this good. That's why I believe Pablovich was put in front of him. What Tom has done is easily as impressive as the other fighters who get much more praise. I am sure it has something to do with his nationality. The British are smashing it in combat sports. World champions in BKFC, One,PFL, boxing, Strong man and of course UFC. I don't know maybe it is unpopular wish I knew why. But the Brits are coming and more belts are heading to the UK.

    If the UFC promotes Jones v Pereira ahead of Jones v Aspinall, then it might just as well merge with WWE. What's the point of having an interim belt and rankings? What's the point for a young fighter of trying to climb up the division when the guy holding the "real" belt can duck the best and be a circus act? The fact that Jones is talking about Pereira solidifies the fact that he isn't a HW and should be stripped of the title. He's had precisely one HW fight in his career and has less of a claim to be champion than Aspinall. Dana needs to wake the eff up. Nobody cares about Jones v Stipe, just as nobody cares about Connor any more. The fight to make is Jo es v Aspinall.
