Any guy who expends that much energy in the first round is going to fatigue themselves. The problem with Chimaev is that his striking is just not that good to keep up with high level strikers like Usman or Whitaker, and if he struggles to submit Whitaker, it works in Whitakers favor, especially given a five round fight.

This could really go anyway just like Khamzat's last two fights, who would have predicted them (or his fights with GM3 or the Leech for that matter). Khamzat takes everybody to the ground. In every fight Khamzat has had. He has been in trouble with his entire coaching team for everything from "playing with his food" to "letting the matches go on to test himself". There are a small handful of men that you can not do that with. Gilbert Burns is one, and Chimaev did. He wanted the test of Burns more that the win, but got the win. Usman is by far one of the top 10 ever and Chimaev almost lost that one for doing the same. When it comes to GSP, Jones, Fedor, Khabib, Whittaker, and a very few others. If Chimaev goes out to "test" himself with Whittaker. Whittaker will hand his ass to him in a brown paper bag. If Chimaev comes to win and is nothing but business. He will hand Whittaker a loss. I said this from the time it was announced. " This match is Chimaev's to loose or to win. The deciding factor is what his intent is. Because no one in the world in different weight classes can play anything with Whittaker."

Romero shot 18 attempts and only took down Bobby 4 times in the first fight then 3 out of ten on the second fight. The time he controlled Bobby was very minimal. That is where the difference will be (one of the differences anyhow)...Chimaev will score higher on the take down percentage and control time will be a lot higher than Romero. @@Thadnill yeah he HAS been riding an inflated hype train the UFC pushed & a lot of that has to do w/ how big his market is in Middle East/europe, he was supposed to be the next automatic double champ, except everyone quickly realized he simply cannot simultaneously make 170 lbs & be effective in a 5 round championship fight, gas tank too low, weight cut too harsh- so they move him up to 185 & problem there is, he’s no longer the biggest guy in the division & better grapplers/harder strikers @ MW, so he’s no lock for a title @ MW either…far from it. He fought Usman & had 1 great round & 2 close ones, and Usman was winning the third cleanly- had that fight gone for 5 rounds Khamzat would’ve been F’d. Khamzat getting winded in a 3 round fight he had a full training camp for & yet Usman was right there, less winded, & he was laying on his couch a week prior to the damn fight, fought up 15 lbs in a division he’s never fought in before, & was coming off a KO loss….THAT is the truth @ that’s what you’re basing his greatness on?🥶 so it’s either a recently KO’d, unprepared, fighting up 15 lbs from his normal weight class Usman OR an undersized mismatched Gilbert that is Khamzat’s “biggest victory” in his career thus far. Think about it

My first thought when anybody gasses out is.... how much weight did they have to cut? I did it once...in high school wresting...for one match, and it was only 3 or 4 pounds, and it SUCKED. I honestly don't know if that is relevant in Chimaev's case or not but probably has an impact just in general.

Dana’s going to give RW a title shot if he wins this. That would be RW’s third title shot and it would be against a guy who already definitively beat him twice in Israel, or a guy who KOed him not even a year ago in DDP. Meanwhile Strickland, who dominated Israel and arguably beat DDP is stuck with a guy who RW barely beat after that guy had been on the shelf for a year and a half and lost 3 of his last 4 with the only win being an over-the-hill Rockhold.

Yes. He has a conditioning issue. If Chimaev could fight at the same pace in rounds 2/3 as he does round 1 he’d be unstoppable. You’re right it’s not a critique. He’s been dominant without the greatest conditioning, arguably the easiest thing to work on.

I think Whittaker has a chance if he goes 5 round. But he has to pass the storm, which is chimaev. If we get that chimaev that fought Kevin Holland that didn't let up that was constantly on the gas that's a hard time for Rob. But Usman showed us to stand with him but he is a fantastic wrestler but still lost. Before people say Usman didn't train etc. He has stated before he doesn't stop training.

Any conditioning ‘issues’ he may have had were likely due to poor cuts. He’s less likely to suffer those at middle. Whittaker has great conditioning and better standup. Chimaev can only win this on the ground, which tests conditioning more than standup. My money will literally be on a RW stoppage. Guess we’ll see.

Ppl are uneducated. Khamzat's conditioning is fine. He's literally won the 3rd round in both his "tough" fights. Ppl are comparing his other rounds to how he fights in the first, so the contrast is making them think he's gassed. He's not... of course he don't fight that way for a whole fight, he's not a fucking robot. Lol. Guys that gas don't finish stronger than their opponents. I love his fighting style. He doesn't fade.... not dramatically. He just comes to dominate and run through his opponent. If they survive that initial storm then he settles into the fight. As far as 4th and 5th round cardio who knows.... Whittaker , or whoever else, will have to get him there for us to find out. But he hasn't shown any reason to think he can't keep fighting. Like i said, he's finished both tough fights stronger than his opponents. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

It hurts to say as a big fan of Chimaev, but yes, his cardio is not a strength of his based on some of his fights. Like Conner against Nate Diaz, where Conner's lack of cardio made him lose his dominant position and the fight, there's a tiny window of an opportunity for Whittaker to achieve a similar result. Chimaev will finish him, though with KO or submission. Against Usman, who has insane KO power and ground game, Chimaev was able to handle him through 5 rounds, so with Whittaker, he can, and he will finish him InshaAllah☝🏽

I dont know that it's 'obvious' he gasses...... I feel like he's been against two guys (burns/kamaru) who were tough as fuck and anyone taking 3 rounds in there were prob going to be tired against them.... I actually like Khamzat and Rob; I like Khamzat because to date, he's shown up to fight every time (he's never stood there and done fuck all when you know he's got action in him like Costa vs Izzy) and I like Rob because he's fought a fucking wildly tough list in the ufc and only lost to wonderboy, izzy and dricus.... and each time, Rob has shown up to fight. It'll be weird because both of these guys have said they respect the other in the past - but maybe that'll be why it's a good fight also, that they want to test themselves against someone they respect (more than 'i'm in a fight with someone i idolise' like gsp v hughes'... Keen.
