Great tip on the transom depth leading to better storage for tackle boxes etc. love the boat and your buddy did a good job.

I’d like to see Matt’s boat and others and how they set theirs up. Thinking about doing a job boat build myself!

Simple and effective...... can't get any better than that!!! It's a nice boat. Matt done an absolutely fabulous job with the decks, compartments -- and fab (brackets/buckets). A tremendous amount of work in short time --- able to do it due to knowledge and expertise (evident)!!! And for other vids of jon boats....... absolutely!!! That'd give so many different ideas for when they're able to modify theirs (or when they get it)!!!

I love seeing these small boat builds, been browsing KZread for ideas. I'm working on a old 14' Crestliner Super Seaman. I've got the front deck and floor cut out and I'll be working on the rear seat/deck and framing soon. I've got a 9hp Mercury but plan on a 20 eventually.

More boats the better, throwing ideas and innovation at us! Love it!

Empty all of your gear out. Put a 1/4" of water or so in the boat then get underneath and wait to find the drip. Put a mark next to the hole and bilge the boat out dry it up and patch the hole. Probably a 3 hour free fix..

Love your passion about this boat! Got a 1542 recently and this gave me some ideas for some small mods.

Hey Matt Love your boat. I had a tracker topper 1542 but had to sell it because I had no place to store it anymore. My next one will be like yours for sure because my 1542 just wasn’t quite wide enough or stable for my liking. And yes I would like to see more Jon boat tours that you asked about. Thanks a lot

Great video Matt! This hits home for me. I have a Tracker Grizzly 1448. 20HP Merc. and an MK Terrova 80lb with iPilot (GPS in the head unit). The stability is much like that Lowe and I love that about it. Get about 22-23mph by myself, maybe 20 with another angler. Jon boats are the business dollar for dollar.

Lot of people chirping you about the motor size and top speed. I have a Merc 9.9 on my 14’ aluminum boat and it pushes two adults 16mph on totally calm water. I don’t doubt what you’re saying one bit. Great vid. I love the boat.

I got a Clark 14' with 76" beam I love this boat it looks like a 20 foot flatbottom coming at you it's so wide. High transom model powerd by 60horse Suzuki

I have an Alumacraft 1442 that is super stable also, from the factory it came with a front deck instead of a center seat. I've had it since 2008 and I haven't upgraded because I haven't found anything I honestly like better for getting into skinny water. Nice built, if you're ever in Wisconsin I'll get you on the monster smallmouth bass.

With the boat on the trailer, fill up the boat with water right above the riveted area. look around to see there are leaks and seal those area. Mines has leaks and after doing that, I sealed all the cracks and now its leak-free.

Have you filled the boat with water a couple inches on the trailer? I feel like you did? That will show you the leak. Cool vid. The wife and I picked up a Alumacraft 1648Modv 2 months ago and are loving it. You very much inspired that decision.

would like to have you describe the trailer, any mods you made, does the winch handle easily clear the boat? What sort of bow stop does the trailer have?

The foot pedal pan was giving you trouble ithink...but i dunno if its cuz the builder was there but id taper that front tub so the cable was more free

i just can't get over how stable it is on the water.. mine is a 1542 and when i lean , so does the boat.. does the front deck help with that?? cause mine is stock..

Also please do a nova meet and fish!!

I really like your show. Watch them all the time. I especially liked the one where you built your present boat. I did that myself back in the 80s and I wish I had built mine like you did yours. Anyway, there is one thing that I don't have figured out yet. What does the SB stand for?

Nice! Gets the job done for sure for 90% of the water out there. Only bigger waters that get windy on a regular may be an issue. Curious question-- as with your boat, and the Pro's I watch on TV, the trend seems to be no seats to fish from. Maybe I am old school. I dont mind standing and fishing for long periods, but i also enjoy sitting on my butt and swiveling around to cast to spots. Why dont you have seats? To save room maybe??😋👍🎣🎣

Why put those heavy batteries up front? Isn't it a bit bow heavy? I have a 14 footer I built out with a 9.9 and have all three of my batteries in back to balance out the weight in the boat and in the trailer the right way.

even if you have a 12v system you just buy 2 6v golf cart batteries and still divide the weight and double your power storage capacity for running your trolling motor and electronics.

Where can I get a Jon boat trailer and what did this exact boat cost you?

I have a 1448 tracker grizzly all welded with a 25 hp E- Tec. She will do 27 to 28 mph with another guy as fat as me aboard. I never had the boat alone, but I'm sure top speed would be over 30mph. I run a helix 7 electronics and a 55 HP Minnkota trolling motor. I wish I had a recessed area for me pedal. Etec has a giant alternator so I run one giant interstate Gmat battery easily runs all day only down 20% by end of the day fishing !

Was you trailer out at fountainhead the other day?

Have you ever tried a tracker grizzly? If so what are the differences between welded and riveted Jon boats? Like is a 1448 riveted just as stable as a 1448 welded

Excellent question.

Now THIS is a rational, normal build I would like! Some of the other builders on here are way "over the top". Heck, I can pick up a used real bass boat around 4k most days on Craigslist, why build a job boat with 25 compartments and all that then? Besides, I like simple and this makes 100% sense to me. Congrats. Oh yeah, I boat fish from a coleman crawdad. 11 ft / 42" wide bottom. .. much more stable than a 14/36!! ... if I buy another job boat before I buy a real bass boat, it will be a 14/48 or a 15/60. Width does make all the difference!

My boat leaked like crazy. I put a garden hose in it while on the trailer and was able to find the leak pretty quickly. The water goes out the same way it comes in. you might have the same luck

Nice video and nice build, Matt. For the waters you fish that does seem to be the perfect boat. You mention that your 9.9 pushes your jon boat to 17 mph. That's faster than I would have thought. I have to chuckle. My 15 horse pushes my boat to 6 mph top speed. I have a bigger motor but go slower. lol Of course that's the kicker motor but for now that's besides the point of the humor.

I just bought a jon boat and put a removable front deck for so when I'm fishing I have it when I'm duck hunting its not in the way

Damn that's identical to my build. 1448, except my trolling motor is smaller and I have a 10 hotse. I extended my back deck from the front of the seat to the back past the battery and gas. Trust me, do it

Paint the bottom of that boat with a few layers of Gluvit and it'll seal that leak right up.
