Jon Bernthal meets Ex-Marine who wanted to blow up a Mosque before he converted to Islam

Richard "Mac" McKinney is a US Military veteran who, after serving in the wake of 9/11, returned to his home town of Muncie, Indiana with a deep hatred for members of the Islamic community. Mac was so seated in his hatred that he devised a plan to build a bomb and blow up the Islamic Center in Muncie. During his initial "recon" mission to the center Mac intended to gather evidence of the evils of the religion and it's patrons, but instead came to find that they were "just plain pleasant" and after getting to know them and their religion more eventually converted to Islam and is now a devout Muslim. He is joined by Bibi Bahrami, the "Mother Teresa" of the Muncie Muslim community and one of the pivotal figures in Mac's adoption of the religion and it's ideals of peace and compassion.

Imagine how the prophet felt. Isolated, embattled, you name it. For 40 years before he assumed prophethood officially. On top of that, he lost all of his children at a young age except his beloved daughter fatima. He still retained his faith. Is it no wonder he possessed the traits of a prophet? Who would have such patience? Most people either commit suicide or even wage war against God. Imagine the perseverance and will power it took and on top of that he still held on to a faith in the Almighty before he received revelation. Famous narration the prophet said to his uncle: ”Oh uncle, by God, if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left on the condition that I leave this matter until God makes it victorious, or I perish in it, I will not leave it.”

You probably won’t see this comment but thank you everyone in this video. It’s almost making me cry. As a Muslim in the Quran we are taught that terrorists cannot even identify as Muslim, that the degree to cutting down a tree in war is forbidden. The real Muslims try our best to showcase this through our character as we are ambassadors for our faith in the western world. Mac & Bibi are a perfect example of this demonstration through their character.

@@hollandiamsterdam913 anyone killing innocents and attempting to claim they kill in the name of Islam is doing a injustice to the faith and is not deemed a Muslim. It is quoted in the Quran if you are to kill one person it as if you have killed the whole of mankind. Unfortunately these quotes of the Quran never get as much attention as they rightly should. Instead quotes from moments in the prophet Mohammed (pbuh) life when he was instructed to defend his people in a last resort war are used instead. Context is so important when reading or assessing anything. Been a Muslim all my life, I don’t endorse 9/11 or 7/7, the taliban or isis.

Honestly don’t know if there’s anything after this life, everything us humans are is just a societal construct, we’re just bags of meat like every other animal. No demons, no god, these are all just coping mechanisms for the fear of death that the earlier humans made up, or maybe even the elites. God being real would be cool, but nothing points to that being true, quite the opposite actually on how cruel and strange this world is.

I totally agree with you on this prospective, but my friend, the horrific part of this is that it's extremely rare to find people like him to admit their wrong doings and to share the purity of what they received of kindness and care. What horrifies me the most is how many of them actually killed people thinking they are evil, with a similar mentality. But you have to understand it was an invasion. Those Afghanis or Iraqis were merely trying to defend their lives and families. To be thought of as mere evil creatures by a superior military force and to be destroyed just for fighting back. It's beyond devastating. Imagine you're sitting at home eating some food with your family and all of a sudden your house is leveled onto dust, seeing your wife and children's pieces and blood everywhere.. how would you truly feel? Good or bad, what you your reason be at the point. This is what has been happening to Muslim countries. Please consider the human side of it first before you consider religion or any other propaganda. Because of someone threatens your freedom, home and family, you only have one way of reacting and that is absolute revenge. Unfortunately these political agendas have destroyed many lives and they do it so easily without any remorse, yet the only ones effected are the people who are on the battlefield.

@@markwhite8332 not sure what is the point of your comment other to come and precisely prove that hatred and stereotyping exists. Yes these were Pakistani Muslim men who committed a grave crime and atrocity.. so did the white catholic priests across the world and so do female teachers abuse make students sometimes. But you can’t blame a faith, ethnicity or gender on any wrong doing. All people are capable of evil just as all are capable of good

The opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. I think Mac through his combat experience, which I'm not gonna pretend to understand since I haven't been through it, it warped his mind, & even worse, his soul. That's not condemnation or judgment on him either. I think it's just human nature. The important part is he was able to break free of hatred. Not many have the balls & strength of character to do so.

I remember once I read a Punisher comic where he was captured by the government and the officials gave an offer to be in the big boys league and be sent to assassin Osamah Bin Laden in return to clean his records and Frank replied “F*ck you, that’s your mess, you clean it while I handle those gangs and corruptions”. Had a big respect for him since then because he refused to be a tool and stood for his beliefs even if they were wrong. Jon is the real and only Frank Castle (The Punisher) to me

The generalization bias is one of the most dangerous trait a human being can have. We all struggle with it and we should fight against this tendency in faulty generalization of any people stereotypes. People who travel are way less affected by this bias as they experience themselves and make a much more genuine idea of what they think of this or that type of ppl. Being Muslim and proud, I'm pretty sure many Americans would be amazed by how much I know their culture whether it's music, food, comedy, sports etc but even historical events. Govts are responsible in our conflicts. Not people. Btw, big fan of Jon Bernthal as an actor but also a podcast host, he nails it

Over the years of hearing about conflicts, and making up toxic perceptions of the opposition as a singular hostile entity, like a race or organization, things like wars and political movements have taught me that declaring and resolving conflicts affects everyone aside from the fighters. I've learned to focus my anger and hate towards individuals like bullies and abusers that directly hurt me, instead of waving and pointing my blaming finger at a whole group they may be a part of for my suffering.

Education is the key to all life. Al Qaeda in Bosnia had a very small training camp for a few people. That camp was purposely set up to capture latent terrorists who would like to join al Qaeda. Terrorist camp set up as bait. It is true that al-Qaeda members came to Bosnia in the 1990s to try to expand their influence, but they failed. They never succeeded.
