As a child, my parents had me raised on country and bluegrass music so as you can imagine, Dolly Parton is quite the idol to me. I figured I'd try and do my own stripped back version of this pop hit using an organ, so really do hope you enjoy it! If you do, sharing is caring so why not share it out and give it a thumbs up?

Was going to say the same thing. Such a preternatural presence.
There’s a slowed down version of Dolly Parton singing Jolene that underlines her precision and faultless voice. Janet’s version has much the same effect. In every cover she brings to light a fresh aspect to a familiar classic and makes them uniquely hers. I can honestly say I’ve never heard a Janet Devlin song I haven’t loved. Fabulous!
I've known this song for many years but I have never, ever, heard it sung with so much emotion. I think Dolly would agree, you've taken her song to a new level. Absolutely amazingly beautiful voice!!
This is how this song should be sung . So haunting and you just want to know how the story ends . I just love it 😊
This is a heart breaking version. Stunningly covered. Perfectly sung. Just wow!
Wow, i'm an old fella and have heard this song sung by many different people, but i would say this is one of the best, Dolly would love this.
most irish singers lose there accent a good amount when they sing, I love that Janet really pronounces with her accent when she sings, which is what makes her so unique
Your voice is beautiful and your hair is beautiful and oh myyyy you are beautiful

I grew up with Dolly playing on the radio and have heard this song 1000 times. This is the first time I actually felt the desperation of the wife's pleas to Jolene. I cried during this song because it was like hearing it for the first time....full of emotion You took a classic song and brilliantly remade it from a fast rapid fire sing along song to an emotional plea from a desperate victim

Yes, the way she sings it slowly and breakingly, wrings your heart
Hauntingly beautiful..just as Dolly's voice (in her version) gives that underlying feeling of urgent desperation to the whole song, yours gives a broken-hearted desolation feeling throughout...hers is a woman who clearly thinks she is fighting a losing battle, but yours is one who already knows she's lost. Neither is weak nor melancholy, just something that can be instantly identified with! Well done, and thank you for sharing it with us...

Just about the most eloquent comment I've seen on KZread (Janet was great too, as usual).
I've watched you grow since your X-Factor days. I don't think there is another voice on this planet that captures the emotion you add to any song you sing adding a depth to your music found no where else. Every song becomes your own, more beautiful than the original. Don't ever stop adding to our lives in your special way.

Congratulations, Janet. You did the impossible. You made Jolene your own. Until now, I could never hear a cover of the song without comparing it to the original. Couldn't do that now. Didn't feel the need to. You told your own tale. Jolene was your story. That's how damn good that was. I got chills. Thank you.
Thats the best rendition of the song that i've heard so far. It so no belting and screaming but it's begging and praying. You have sang this song like it should be sung.

jacusss1910 Jesus, do you have a personal vendetta? People can enjoy a certain cover of a song without wanting to fuck the artist, you weirdo
You don't just sing peopele's lyrics. You live them, heart and soul. It's why your covers are so phenomenal and touch so many people. Without detracting in any way from the original you bring your own spirit into the performance and, as others have said, you take so many of these classics to a whole different place. YOU are absolutely amazing, don't ever forget that. TY xxx
Sometimes the most simplistic singing and version of a song can be the most powerful . Your talent is right up there . I had to play this over and over
Wonderful Janet - really wonderful.... can't find words. It brings up very deep emotions.

Huh? it was ok. she is a good singer..but this is not the song for her voice..I am sorry to disagree. I know people love her and want to support her as do I, but to give great praises for everything she sings is not being truthful to her. In turn really does not help her. I am not saying you do, I just see it all the the time..No matter how great a singer a person maybe, not every song is a winner.
I hope Dolly Parton hears this cover herself one day, i'm sure she'd love it.

Done exactly as this song should be done, in a near-whisper by a loving woman on the ropes. She almost cries while singing, as she really got into the role. Also the accompaniment was perfect, keeping up the suspense without being cloying. A lot of singers butcher this song by belting it, just the opposite of the appropriate emotion. It needs to be begged, not blasted.

SO BEAUTIFUL IT HURTS
I was so floored by this rendition that I played it 6 times before commenting. For the very first time in decades of hearing Dolly sing it and in listening to countless other covers of 'Jolene' ever since, THIS is very first time it has been sung 'right' and with such powerful moving emotion. IMO, the main beauty & quality in any song is how much it transfers the realism of emotion to the listener... and you peaked the mountain with your vocal gift & your rendition. Wow!
Angels weep. The Seraphim wish they had your voice to praise God. You evoke pure emotion. This isn't voice, this is pure soul. How can I express? Silence is what I have left. Thank you isn't enough. You haunt my soul.

Your voice in my headphones is like magic. All the problems disappear. Thank you, Janet!
There are many people that can sing beautifully, Janet you are no exception, but there are very very few like you, that have the ability to draw you in to the song when you sing. Beautiful, and thank you
I've been listening to Dolly sing Jolene since the 73, and many covers since. Your performance wow, I mean WOW, I've no doubt Dolly would agree. I felt carried to the moors on a a mist of tears and swear I could smell peat. Emotional Magic.
You fit the description of Jolene!! 😆😆

Best cover of very many from the first bar. Everybody else sings this song. She prays it, which is the only way to style the desperate setting.

This is by far the best version of this song I've ever heard! I'm a big fan of Janet's voice, but this emotional and, dare I say, haunting performance is the kind of stuff that separates the genius from those who are just good. Congratulations!
She seems sincere and emotional as if she wrote the song.
Janet took the song, tore it apart and put it back together in her own way, and what an amazing job she did X
This is how I sing with my guitar! I think sometimes a low brooding voice is good! It doesn't always have to someone belting it out at the top of their voice!
First time I,ve heard this song where the words mean so much more than the big notes. Absolutely beautiful!!! I hope Dolly hears this. I believe she would love it.
Girl I just learned about you and I cant get enough of you!..you are a gift from God!..I am a psychic medium so I know this is true..
Janet you truly have done full justice to this song. After having lost both the worlds in Love ....how a vanquished lover should wail....you have gently enacted that! Dolly Parton's original songs depicts resistance with some degree of vigour left yet your song reflects Joulen has already conquered the man and you don't have any hope of retrieving that man! The man seems to have gone and the song truly brings out true pathos and pangs inherent in the song. Kudos to you Janet for filling so much emotions in the immortal song. I have listened to the various covers but I tend to convey this one is the ultimate. Wishing a mammoth success ahead !
