It’s not every day you get to experience electronic music live. While this style usually features a drum machine, get ready to have your mind blown by a living and breathing drum machine: Jojo Mayer!
Along with his band Nerve, Jojo brought some incredible hybrid drumming to the 2020 Drumeo Festival, combining acoustic playing with effects and samples. In this song, “Ghosts Of Tomorrow”, he uses rhythm to create a hypnotic energy, build tension, and come down with a crushing release. You need to watch to understand.
Nerve is Jojo Mayer, John Davis (bass), Jacob Bergson (keys) and Aaron Nevezie (programming).

It's the "JoJo" rig. "All" you need (not that this is cheap/easy to acquire, lol) is a "black" label Boss OC-2 Octaver pedal with the OCT 1 knob all the way up and the OCT 2 and DRY knobs all the way off. That gives the synth tone. The filtering (being controlled by an expression pedal) is being done with a Moog Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter pedal. Although an Iron Ether Xerograph can also be used in that role. Although, they're also pretty expensive and difficult to find, lol. He's also likely using a touch of some kind of overdrive or distortion either from a pedal or his amp. That though is far less crucial to acquiring that bass guitar sound than the Boss OC-2 and Low Pass Filter pedals. If you get those, any decent drive will do.

@@KD-vg2yn It's a known commodity in the JoJo Mayer community. He's made all the bassists who've played with him buy a Boss OC-2 and a MoogerFooger Low Pass Filter. He told Janek Gwizdala before his first gig with Nerve while at a Music shop before the tour started "you're buying these two pedals with your first check from the tour. Thank me later after I show you how to use them."

Jojo is great and we know. Though what is not pointed out is that the group is great. The total result is beautiful. Jacob Bergson and Aaron Nevezie are the ones taking me back to time of old school when dnb had musicality. They are bringing back the memories of dnb of the 90's which is unique and unforgettable!
Man those three hits twice on bass drum at 1:44 were just so insane.

Yes! Fantastic sounding! I can add another favorite drummer to my list! Drums are the best!
His kit is so cool and unique. Really love the way he uses those BT-1 bar triggers. Seeing them live was so so so good. I went into knowing nothing about them. A drummer friend took me because he had an extra ticket and I was so so grateful that he did. I had heard of Jojo and seen him in drumming magazines but had no idea about what kind of music he played. I didn’t see he Pearl syncussion replica. Also he only uses a Roland TM-2 module, so mind blowing. I’m surprised Why he wouldn’t want a TM-6 pro for his kit. It would have much more control over his sounds, direct sound outputs, be able to layer trigger sounds with acoustic drums
