I am wanting to add one to my jointer. I can see the benefit of it being safer when placed over the cutters. I have them on my tablesaw and router and really like it. I am assuming for very cupped boards could just adjust the height of the feeder to assert less pressure just as if you were using your hand to apply pressure to the outfeed side. Most of what I joint is not that cupped so I don't see an issue as some are questioning.

I like your video but I wondered what your feedback is regarding Bo's question below. You never want to force the board down to the jointer bed if you are trying to flatten it especially if it is cupped or twisted. I know that some people theorize that this is OK to do on the outfeed side but in many cases, if you are jointing correctly, you will hear it cut for the first few inches and then nothing for a while and a little bit of cutting at the end. When this happens, you should have a portion of the board that does not touch the outfeed table. I am sure that this is why whenever anyone mounts a power feed to a jointer, they have to create their own fixture for it. The manufacturer does not provide mounting because a power feeder on a jointer does not make sense.

You're right about the guard being less than ideal. Have you considered a bridge guard, which is the style found on European-made machinery?

What happens if you angle the powerfeed to push towards the fence slightly? As its feeding boards through it would run straight against the fence.

The added guard could be added to the existing guard. Just make sure it can rotate.

Just for that set up, couldn't you just attach a Plexiglas or something to the front of the feeder to act as a guard? I mean if this set up is the only one that exposes the cutter head, it seems it would be simple and cheap, and also effective. Just a thought.

Hi! I'm curious about something... when I joint a slightly cupped board, I use a light touch so as to only hit the high points until flat... wouldn't this set up press the cup down and take the same amount off the entire length, thus not flattening the board? It seems this acts just like a thickness planer in this set-up - cupped boards in; cupped boards out... would love to hear your experience with this, thanks!

Hi, if the material is not too bad, this technique works fine as long as you use light downward pressure on the feeder.I've done it many times simply by swing the feeder off the back of my saw/shaper so that it sits over the jointer outfeed table.....Rod.

If they feeder was over the infeed side of the jointer..that is exactly what would happen...but the first wheel is over material that has already been cut and lying flat against the outfeed table. This will produce good results.

@@5280ryan So as long as it flattens the board in one pass, this works, otherwise, it doesn't.

wouldnt that depend on it only needing one pass to flatten? Many times it takes me several passes to flatten. Good question.

2 things that I don't think are ideal. 1. The power feeder should be over the infeed table. 2. the rollers should be on the fence side of the feeder.
