Hello Miri!!! I love your videos, they are so helpful! I just wanted to let you know, often times when measuring the shoulder, it helps with flexion(a little) and abduction (a lot) if you externally rotate the humerus (an easy way is with elbow extended, to rotate entire UE where thumb is facing the ceiling as you move) when nearing the end range- especially with abduction. This prevents the greater tubercule from impeding your ROM at it compresses into the scapula. I learned this in my FWII at a hand clinic. :) Thank you so much for sharing yourself with us!

There isn't a part II of this video, although, I probably should make one to cover the rest... I'll put that on the list! (It probably won't be before your exam on Monday though : ( But, you already have everything you need within you to pass the board. Go in there with your critical OT thinking cap on and approach every question as if you were already an entry level practitioner. I'll be thinking of you, Jocelyn!

Your videos are very helpful! I get confused on manual muscle testing when it's in a question and choosing the correct answer, but I know the content by itself (i.e. Fair (3) against gravity, full ROM, no resistance. Can you make a video about MMT?

Hi Rachel, your test date is coming up! I know I haven't gotten to all your questions, but wanted to quickly respond to this one to share what I found most effective. If you've been watching my videos, you know that I talk about the OT process a lot. That's because our understanding of the OT process really is so important in guiding the appropriate provision of services at the appropriate time and your understanding of that needs to be reflected when you take the CST portion of the exam. So imagine yourself as an entry level practitioner with a clinical scenario. You must first identify where you are in the OT process and ensure that your actions or recommendations are neither premature nor deferred. Then from there, choose assessments and intervention strategies that are theoretically consistent with the conditions. Also, you must recognize that various practice settings also influence your decisions due to different length of stay (LOS) and nature of conditions most likely treated in various settings, which will help you choose an action/goal/treatment most appropriate to the setting. Once you've identified those 3 areas, ask yourself if the action you choose can be administered by any parent/caregiver/teacher, or by a skilled practitioner. Remember that we provide skilled observation and intervention strategies so actions that can be performed by anyone is probably not likely the best choice for a practitioner. Finally, an intervention in its natural setting is preferred. Think top down- what is most occupation-based, meaningful, functional, relevant action? And is it safe and ethical? I know that is A LOT to consider, but these are all the things that we must think through clinically when we are on the job. Hope that helps, Rachel!
