www.sixfigurecouchsurfer.com
So you're thinking about enlisting or going officer at 30?
Good, I was 32!
AGE IS NOT A FACTOR. -- If you are you GOOD SHAPE & have HUMILITY -- YOU WILL SUCCED.
Go in with an open mind and play the game. It's a fun experience and you'll never know unless you serve!

I went to basic at the age of 30. I was older than all my drill sergeants. My nickname was old man. But I came in with humility and an open mind. My bunkmate was a young kid. Ill never forget the bond we made during basic. Any other scenario, we probably would have never met. Two completely different types of people and age differences but being put in the suck together creates a bond that is hard to explain to people who have not gone through it. Its the best decision I made. Didn't matter being older. Just glad I did it. Thanks for the video.

At meps/ future soldier training and other events, all I have received is respect ✊. Complements for being on time 10mins before, for helping others when allowed, for not participating in profane conversations and for listening well and executing directions as given. Also I workout every weekday morning while they finds it stupid since ACFT it’s not a graduation requirement for now 🤷🏻‍♂️.

They mentioned the waiver and checked my body fat percentage. If you got a big gut (beer belly) but within the allowable body fat you will not need the waiver. They measure your neck and stomach around the belly button. TBH suck in your gut a tad, not much to where it is noticable but enough to help you pass if you got a big gut.

Awesome video! I’ve been having that same question you refer to for the longest time. I don’t like the prospect of looking back on my life in my 60’s/70’s and wish I would’ve served when I had the chance. I’m about to be 30 and one of my main question marks was my age, but this video gave me some perspective. Thanks for the video and your service.

Yes it’s definitely uncomfortable leaving a career field to join the military when everyone else is in their early 20s and you were in your 30s however that just gives you the advantage of knowing exactly what you want in life. Just stay humble and learn from everyone around you. Also prepare to be definitely far out of your comfort zone but expect amazing growth because of that

This is a great video! I ended up joining the Army for the same reasons you did. I did well in school, civilian work environments and athletics, but I felt unsatisfied with not serving and being a part of something greater than myself. It was a thought that ate at me for the last 7 years of my life until I bit the bullet and joined at 25. I must say it was one of the best decisions I ever made. It's a privilege to be a part of the Army and to work with some of the most outstanding people I have ever met. Zero Regrets and easily the best choice I ever made. Best of luck on your journey!

This is a really good take on joining. I think more people would be on board. If more saw it from the age perspective like you do. I don’t like talking about myself but I can say that I generally have myself together. Call it being an “old soul” or maturity (although there’s not a whole lot of the second half) I do this this take is better than most. What I’m trying to get at is that as a younger adult I want to fit in and think like others and all places you look for advice is riddled in people my age and and in their 20s. But you, in their 30s are able to tell me something that I fully understand and makes my reasons more valid. Thank you for this video

sir I needed this video hard. I am 30 y.o, and I am feeling that itch hard. I graduated college in 2013, been climbing the corporate ladder for 7 years and feel kinda numb. I want to serve, - I respect the Army and your service, but my itch is for the Navy. Been a hard Navy fan since a kid. I just started calling my local recruiter. Hoping to go to Officer Cadet School and pursue Surface Warfare Officer. Everything you said hit home. This helps me feel this isnt a wrong decision, and its something I want to be able to look back at my life and know that I served. All my corporate friends are saying this financially doesn't make sense, you can make more money outside etc... luckily my parents and partner are supportive. great video sir, thank you and God bless.

Thank you for the video. I graduated from college last May just before I turned 27 with a degree in international relations - emphasis on the Middle East / North Africa and the Arabic language - and decided to pursue joining the Army after graduation. I used to be a heavyweight strength-lifter (I was a big fella at 6'1 and 289 pounds) so I needed time to lose weight and train, so I took a rather low-paying and not super fulfilling job as a private security supervisor which gave me enough work-life balance to get my training done and keep working on my Arabic language skills. It's been such a slow process and I've had so many nights wondering if I was doing the right thing and wondering how long it was going to take. Videos like this keep me motivated. It's my dream to join the Army and go to Officer Candidate School and I'm fully dedicated to pursuing it no matter how long it takes. I find myself consistently worrying about not being picked up for OCS - something that my family and friends have asked me about - and after giving it some thought I think I would enlist. I have that itch that you mentioned that I just can't shake and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to become a soldier. Seeing all of these comments from people older than me who plan to enlist makes me feel a lot better about that decision. Do you have any other thoughts or advice regarding the possibility of being rejected from OCS and going enlisted instead?

Dont think about rejection too much, youll see options arise based on the Army’s needs and what your recruiter offers. Enlisted route is def an option it really just depends on what you want out of your experience. You can always keep applying even after rejection. Or u can try other branches

I love what your saying and wanted to enlist since I was 5 years old. Got into some trouble at 18-19 and could not enlist after trying for five years. Then I met a navy recruiter who was about to get me a waiver and I went into real estate. I love real estate but I have always wanted to serve. What resonates most with me is you saying you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. My fear has to do with some other things I’ve been through and not being able to just leave if I needed to. Anyways it makes sense what your saying and I own my own business now and make decent money but every time I think about the military I just wish I would have or could have joined.

Having that emotional intelligence to read people has been really beneficial to me. I’m looking forward to going back into the business world with so much more knowledge and wisdom because of the military. Danielle, You're establishing a real estate career; but you still have a desire to serve in the military. If joining a state's (federally recognized) National Guard or federal Reserves doesn't allow enough life flexibility, maybe your state has a non-federal state defense force which might provide an opportunity for you to still serve. Don't let the desire to serve be a regret; but, it's your life and you might decide not to risk your new career.

I'm rejoining soon at 34 but I'm trying to direct commission as an RN. I originally joined as an 11b at 24. Aiming Air NG first, if not then Army NG. You're spot on with your perspective. Physically, if you're an active person and regularly workout, you'll be fine. A lot of the younger dudes don't have the knowledge or experience with conditioning, if prepared you'll out perform them. It's like the high schooler that jumps on the treadmill next to you at the gym and sprints for a total 0.5 miles, meanwhile you're on your 4th mile or something.

joey tames good luck but as somebody who joined army at 34, i'd say go ahead and just join the air force if anything. the army seems to have even more childish games since we are the lowest standards while the air force treats their people more like adults.

@@SixFigureCouchSurfer I'm sure it's hard enough being an officer. But at aleast you're not a lower enlisted E-1 through E-4, because you'd then have to worry about doing the extra crap like the motor pool. Yeah, officers still have to come out to do inventory....but that's after the lower enlisted are finished spending hours sweating and working their butts off dragging all the tents and everything else out of the connexes. I've never heard of an officer physically doing all that manual labor in the hot sun or freezing cold themselves. Plus a lot of officers I've seen are much more able to follow their own PT schedules (which very often results in getting better PT test scores), almost like the "chair force" can whereas enlisted in the army can't. So if someone is looking to join the military and specifically the army at that old of an age, being an officer (instead of enlisted) shouldn't be bad of a choice. Not to mention that if you aren't married, while I'm sure you still might have to have room inspections, you most likely won't be caught up in as much drama as enlisted people do in the barracks.

I get it man, I just commented on another one of your videos. I wasn't corpo but I made pretty good money in my job. But always had that pull towards military service. I don't think other people who feel how we do can get it, I think it's a calling rather then an itch. At least that's what old timers tell me. 🤷🤙 PS. I don't mean that as in I think I'm above others or anything of that sort. I just mean its hard to come up with the words idk how else to say it
