Hey everyone, ARNE & CARLOS here!
In this KZread video, we're taking you on a virtual tour of Heimen Husfliden, a fantastic store in Oslo that's a haven for yarn enthusiasts and lovers of traditional Norwegian crafts. Join us as we explore the diverse offerings, from exquisite Norwegian yarns to beautiful handmade folk costumes and silver accessories.
We are joined by Malene from Heimen Husflid. She guides us through the store, sharing insights into the rich tradition of Norwegian wool and the wide array of yarns available. We also explore the various components of Norwegian folk costumes, or bunads, and the store's emphasis on handmade garments. From belts and buttons to intricate embroidery, Heimen is a treasure trove for those seeking authentic and beautifully crafted pieces.
Malene sheds light on the meticulous process of obtaining a custom-made bunad, discussing the measurements, fittings, and the time it takes to create this symbol of Norwegian identity.
Our journey continues through the store, showcasing the extensive selection of products, including shirts, hats, and accessories that complement the bunad ensemble. We also touch on the challenges and joys of maintaining and enlarging vintage bunads, sharing personal experiences.

This video brings back such lovely memories for me. I LOVED my visit to that store when I was in Oslo for the Knitting Cruise last year! I bought some yarn, ribbon and buttons to finish my Trasskofte. All the Husfliden shops are beautiful and each on is different and has items specific to that region. I see Marlene is wearing the gorgeous Agnes Kofte by Kristin Wiola Ødegård! That's on my list of sweaters I want to make this year out of the beautiful Hillesvåg yarns! Maybe I can finish it before I come back to Norway in October.
WOW! Thank you to the wonderful woman who helped you in the shop. This video is packed full of traditional and historical facts. Love it!
What a treasure trove of tradition
This episode was such a special treat. Could easily spend a whole day in this store looking at yarn.
What a magnificent shop. I just loved getting the tour and seeing all the lovely yarns, clothes and notions. Thank you for taking us in.
this is heaven all the colours of the rainbow - and lovely designs
Another very interesting episode. Thank you for showing us around and explaining about all the various traditions. Wonderful.
I love it when you take us out and about in Norway - thanks! 😊
Thank you Arne and Carlos, for sharing your beautiful homeland. Marlene's sweater is so beautiful also!!
Wow! So many folk costumes in Norway! Thank you so much for continuing to educate us on Norweigan customs and textiles. So very interesting!

I remember in the sixties using these braids to decorate our bell bottom jeans. 👖👖👖👖
Those clothes are beautiful ! It seems like when one wears the whole attire, they are wearing history.
What beautiful costumes.
Beautiful yarn and clothing. Thank you.
Beautiful, thank you so much for sharing!
Oh my goodness. My late mother brought me a gift from that store. I had no idea about it! Thank you for this video. I still have the silver buttons in the paper bag from the store. What a wonderful place!🥰
A great episode! I loved the sweater your lovely host was wearing. Guessing she made it herself. ;)
I wish that I lived near the store because I would be there everyday. You're so lucky.
Beautiful Shop 😍 Thanks for sharing with us! 🩵
Very nice presentation of this store, thanks !
Arne & Carlos, it was fun seeing all the beautiful yarns & traditional garments!!🤗😍
Would LOVE to see the doll getting an Arne-made folk costume this May : )
Oh, how I drooled over all that yarn and buttons, and silver….
Thank you for the tour. What a beautiful store full of beautiful yarn and Norwegian clothing and items.
Just delightful. Please show us what you bought yourselves in a future episode.
I work in Karl Johans gate, just around the corner from here, I had no idea there was a yarn store there. I can't wait to go and explore! 😁😁

@@ARNECARLOS, very close! I actually walked out of my office one day in December and you were right outside the door. I nearly walked into you. I was so tempted to say hello, but you were with other people and I felt it would not be appropriate to intrude. 😜
I so enjoyed this episode
Wow! What a great store. Thanks for sharing . On my bucket list . Wonderful learning more about Norway and your culture!
Hello, guys! I'm a fabric rep in the States. One of the lines I carry is Lewis & Irene. Just had my first sale of your full collection to the first customer I showed it to! Can't tell you how excited I was to see your newest collection! It's gorgeous and a very easy sell!! Your work is a great addition to Lewis & Irene - they're lucky to have you (and so am I)! :)

Beautiful costumes.
I loved this episode!
Thank you for a fascinating tour!
29:02 Great video of Husflid. That was the first yarn store I visited in Norway last year. I was so overwhelmed that I didn't buy a thing. Doubt that happens next time! ❤❤
OMG! Yarn heaven 🥰
Wonderful tour. Thank you for sharing.
This is fantastic! One of your best.
Oh this is yarn heaven!we. Americans love the trim because it is extremely difficult to find in the USA. What a lovely episode!
So interesting! What a lovely shop. Thank you for the tour and thanks to your sweet and knowledgeable host.
I love this trip to Oslo and trip to yarn store.
This episode almost made me cry. I certainly burst with joy remembering my visit to that store at the beginning of my Arne and Carlos Norwegian Adventure last February. This is where I met Rachel (buying Hillesvåg yarn, of course), not knowing she would also be on the cruise. It’s also where I bought my copy of your Julekuler book in Norwegian. I would love to go back someday. Thanks for the wonderful memories ❤
Well, I’M in HEAVEN watching this!😮😊
Hi Trisha, I love both ways but it’s really nice , the vlog , it feels different and new-ish. The transitions from cooking and journaling are great. I love the vlog format -more lifelike, especially when you bring in the other crafts you do. I especially love the introduction part -Thank you for sharing

Oh my goodness, I think I just fainted…. Yarn everywhere!!!!!
Thank you for a very interesting video.
I adore Oslo! Loved the little time I had there last Feb before the knitting cruise, and really want to re-visit in summer time! 🦄
Such an interesting video today. Whilst I don't have the need to make a traditional costume, I certainly would buy some of those buttons, ribbons and wool. I'm sure you didn't walk out empty handed, and just maybe Arne made a stop or two at a thrift shop on the way home. 😁 X
Thank you for taking us on this lovely store tour! So many beautiful items that are rich in culture and history! 🙂
Thank you for that tour through the store. Whis I was there in person. Maybe 1 day!
❤ So happy to see you! What a lovely store! I enjoy hearing about the history and regional traditions. Oslo is a must see.
I remember my mother making the black one. The 70s were good because they looked fine with a Laura Ashley blouse
Well....I've lived in Oslo for almost a year, but had no idea this wonderful store was inside Glasmagasinet! A hidden gem! I look forward to visiting soon. 🙂

from our home to yours, near and far, Happy New Year 2024
I shopped there with some lovely friends before the knitting cruise! 😊
I have some paper dolls of all the different bunader. I got them in the Samvikelaget when i was on holiday with my family in the early 70s.
Earlier today, I read about a new and exciting library in Oslo. You MUST go there! (I am a retired librarian and enjoyed your Japan trip recently). The five-storey Deichman Bjørvika library has a cafe, restaurant, media workshops, auditorium, recording studios, a mini cinema, lounges and gaming zones. “Norway’s biggest bookshelf,” its then director, Knut Skansen, said, “is truly a library for the future.”

Yes, Deichman is an Architectural masterpiece and we have been there many times. The restaurant is also terrific, it’s one of favourite our places to have dinner before going to the opera.
Great episode! If I ever make it to Norway I’d go crazy in that store!
Wow, this was very enlightening. It is so good to see you honour those traditions. And I can imagine that when I ever visit I certainly will buy something nice, although a bunad is very expensive and all what should accompany it even more. And I think you should keep it for the local people, as Norwegian people have to follow it, if they care for it and it seems they do. I really admire all the craft involved and this was such a treat. Thanks for sharing and I find myself so enriched by seeing your beautiful clothes.
Fun shopping with you
Very cool!
Lovely to see. Will visit the store when I'm in Oslo in June 🙂
Thank you fir this my family history comes from Oslo it is great to see the things of my ancestry.
Traveling in New Mexico, we came across Tierra Wools. Local wool, vegetable dyed. We met the dye master and a couple hundred dollars later, we were on the road again with a bunch of wool.
what an inspiring episode. I love seeing all the beautiful folk costumes. The colours and embroideries are just amazing. Thank you for sharing this!! You made my day!
Oh my, that is yarn heaven.
A really interesting episode. 🇬🇧

My heart is so full seeing this favorite of Oslo. Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable. Of course the yarn is simply a small introduction to what awaits those fortunate ones who get to visit both Hillesvag and Rauma factories like we did during our A&C cruises in 2019 and 2023 but the Heimem Husfliden is the very best collection of knitting books. Purusing those books kept me occupied for at least a couple of hours. Thank you so much for sharing your visit and bringing me back to a place that will always remain very dear to me. With many hugs. Shirley
So interesting!!! Thank you for the tour. I had no idea how important the Bunad is. Hopefully I will visit Norway someday and get to see this shop❤
Thanks for the tour! It brings back wonderful memories when I was in Oslo on my first visit. I did buy some Hillesvag yarns and some beautiful accessories for my kitchen. I was looking at the beautiful cabled, raglan turtleneck sweater at the end of your video. As you were signing off it was just behind you in a lovely cinnamon colour. I'm betting someone watching may know the name of the pattern! Likely a pattern from Rauma or Hillesvag ❤
That was very interesting - thanks.

Very nice excursion. I'd like to live in this shop.
As an 18yr old English au-pair I shopped in Glasmagasinet and also, as I recall then, Husfliden was its own store full of yarn and beautiful homeware. This was in 1974/1975. I thought Oslo and Norway the most magical of places. I remember the Munch Museum and the Palace and Vigeland Park and most of all the lovely Norwegian people that I met. Very happy days and wonderful memories.
That was so much FUN! Thank you for taking us shopping with you Arne and Carlos🥰🇨🇦Sharon.
Thanks for the tour🤗 Fantastic yarn shop💖

So fun to see a little of Oslo and Norwegian traditions!
What a beautiful store, I could spend hours just looking and feeling the wool. The Folk Costumes are amazing, the embroidery etc, the silver, I don't know how you can resist buying everything !
That was fun to see! Hope to make it there one day!
Fun video
Fascinating story about the tartan in the traditional costume. i was wondering why ...
Haha, "the city of Oslo, which is the capital of the country of Norway"--thanks for explaining for us Americans with poor geography education! We do know Lillyhammer from TV :) Those buttons are wonderful!
That was lovely! Thank you!! No 1 stop on any visit to Oslo is now planned!!!
Fabulous episode! Beautiful shop and marvelous items! Great tour! Thank you all very much!🥰💞😊
Thank you so much. I was once again reminded of the huge variation in colors of the Heliv.. yarn.
Thanks for this look at all the amazing colors, weaving and embroidery!
