Loved this video! It brought back childhood memories of turning the handle on Grandma's Daisy churn after Gramps milked the cows. Then we'd watch her shape the butter in a huge wooden bowl. I still have that bowl and churn. I wish I had the old ice cream maker we used too. Grandma would prepare the ice cream mixture on the stove then it was up to us kids to turn the handle while Gramps packed the outside full of ice or snow and salt. Best ice cream ever!

My mom and grandmother used 2 sharp knives to cut butter in flour, criss-cross opposite from typical scissor motion. Also used that same technique to cut cooked greens.

So cool seeing you bake challah! As an observant jewish mom, I bake it all the time 6 lbs of flour at a time in my beloved Bosch mixer. I don't baby it like you do, though, doing it that often you learn lots of tips n tricks to get it done more speedily. Nothing tastes quite like rewarmed challah on Friday night.

I also have a large cutting board for my bread baking. I use a non slip mat that I cut from a roll. I think it is shelf liner but it works and rolls up small.

Dear Angie, thank you for the inspiration. The recipes look very tasty and it is a huuuuge win to know some basic baking skills. The cost of bread in Germany has gone up like crazy and we always feel it in our budget first, in weeks, I did not take time to bake and we have to buy bread from the bakery.

Hi Angela, I make butter in ALMOST the exact same way! The only difference is that I was taught to use the cream COLD, straight from the fridge... and mine is ready in about 10 minutes (maybe having everything cold is the secret?). If I make salted butter, I just pop the salt in the bowl with the cream right at the start... it comes out the same (and saves time 😉) It is important to rinse & squish the butter between your fingers to get any remaining buttermilk out, as it is the buttermilk that makes the butter go rancid. Again, a little differently from you, I was taught to rinse/squish the butter in a big bowl of ice cold water (I put on a pair of those throw away surgical gloves, so my hands don't freeze).

Oh, I'm so lazy, I just use my food processor to combine butter with flour. And actually to make any cookie mixture. It collects the dough in a ball. A couple of seconds and you're good to go.

Hi Angela, I have a question for you. I purchased a large glass container for flour and when I got home, it doesn’t have a rubber gasket inside the lid. Did your glass container have a rubber gasket? The reason I’m asking I wasn’t sure if it would keep it dry and safe from any bugs.

All you have to do is put either a damp rag under the cutting board. Or paper towels. With that size you will probably need 2 towels or 3 paper towels. But it stops the back and forth. Whatever you need to put under but it has to be damp

Learned I am the weird one, I ran to the comments after putting the cat on the floor and then wiped the hands on the pants!!! :). I just knew comments would go crazy over that but I don’t see anything. Yep! Just me. I admit to being weird so no one come after me but that’s why I don’t eat food at pot luck dinners. Just sayin! But it looks great so far. I haven’t made it through the whole video yet.
