    A very complete video, with interesting pre-Kansas footage, of a player I like. I think Furphy is a good three-point shooter, has good mechanics and gets the shot off quickly. He also seems to move very well without the ball, cutting to the basket when necessary and always being on the move. And lastly, he looks like a gritty player who is not afraid of physical contact, possibly as a result of his relationship with the wild Australian football (his father and brother are both involved in this sport). It is true that he lacks some things: he needs to gain muscle, be able to generate his own shots and be more careful when entering the basket to avoid being blocked easily. I would place him in the bottom of the lottery.

    I agree with everything you said, especially about Furphy's quickness and mechanics on his outside shot. He's also always active, which helps make up for his offensive limitations off the dribble. For me, the thing is that he still has to prove that he can make more decisions with the ball.

    He really has very good positional size and athleticism. It translates too, especially with his rebounding and his aggression in transition. I still wanna see it pop up more with his drives.

    With that combination of shooting, rebounding and defensive length, I see a Simone Fonteccio at an earlier developmental stage. If he can shoot off movement, he'll be a long time starter on good teams.

    I think he’ll be able to shoot off movement and I like what you’re saying. Someone in this draft who I think shows parallels to what Fontecchio is doing now in the NBA is Tristan Da Silva from Colorado.

    He reminds me a great deal of Franz Wagner when he was playing for Michigan. Not only because he’s a white guy, but he moves constantly, sets himself well for his jumper. He has sneaky athleticism and a lack of unnecessary flash. The same type of basic fundamentals that Wagner has starring for the Magic. I wouldn’t mind my NYK’s taking him if he fell to them.

  • @FloorandCeiling

    I see where you’re coming from with that comparison in terms of the frame, athleticism, and production. The main difference, I’d say, is that Franz was much more willing to put the ball on the floor at Michigan and that he was also more comfortable using ball screens to create for himself and others. Apart from that, I also feel like the shots Franz took were more versatile than Furphy’s, but like I mentioned in the video, it’s possible that a large part of that might be the narrow role Furphy has to play at Kansas. Thanks for watching! I could definitely see him on the Knicks. I also like Tyler Smith and Kevin McCullar in New York.

    Now I know why Sam Presti said he loves this year’s draft. Furphy is exactly what we need, a lights out shooter with length and rebounds. Still not sure about his defense

  • @FloorandCeiling

    @FloorandCeiling

    Thanks for watching! I think Furphy’s defense will be substantially better once he’s more ready from a physical perspective. He really needs to add strength, while hopefully also becoming a more versatile shooter and maintaining his efficiency. I could see OKC liking Furphy - although more so in the Isaiah Joe mold offensively with some added athleticism around the basket (rebounding) like you said - but without necessarily prioritizing him.

    He should stay another year. Get stronger and expand his game off the ounce wit playmaking and defense and he’ll be a lottery lock. Right now, the NBA is less in the development mode and he’ll have to start his NBA campaign off in the G-League.

  • @FloorandCeiling

    Earlier in the season, my line of thought was that Furphy had started to play well enough to put himself into lottery consideration as part of an early 2025 big board. But then, he really exploded into this year's map. I agree that he needs a lot of development with regards to his strength. His role, like I covered in the video, has also been pretty limited with Kansas but I think he has a lot of skills that are (eventually) NBA translatable. Getting him this year in the mid/late first round and then working with him in the G League is a good move.

    Has NBA tools and especially athleticism on both ends for sure. Doesn't need to be a shooter, although it'd be nice if he improved in that department down the line. This hasn't hurt his efficiency this season, but it's harder to be mostly a rim runner and pick-and-roll finisher at 6-9 in the NBA than it is in college. He's someone I'm keeping an eye on. As for player comp, maybe someone like Jordan Bell makes sense.

    They need shooting and Furphy fits that bill, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Magic reached a stage next season similar to where the Houston Rockets are now. That is, bringing in more experienced players to make an even bigger push in the east. Klay Thompson has been rumored recently. Right now, the Magic are third in the east but they are not considered to be genuine contenders over the Knicks (4th), Cavs (5th), Sixers (7th), or Heat (8th) imo.

    Furphy going to the Cavs would probably mean a two or three year plan with him, meaning that he'd have to start being genuinely productive around the end of his rookie contract. I say this because the Cavs' contracts are more or less locked up over the next two seasons and I'm not sure there will be that much roster upheaval in Cleveland in the short term.

    I'm a die-hard Spurs fan. Assuming the Spurs have 1 top 5 pick and 1 top 10 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, which 2 or 3 players should the Spurs target for each pick? Thank you so much for all the great content!

  • @FloorandCeiling

    @FloorandCeiling

    4 ай бұрын

    My favorite target for the Spurs to pair with Victor Wembanyama is honestly Rob Dillingham. I also like Reed Sheppard and Nikola Topic, but I think they'd be less electric picks. With Topic in particular, I worry that he might be a non-shooter which wouldn't be a huge deal at first, but I think we could see some of the issues that plague Josh Giddey right now pop up down the line. However, if we assume that San Antonio trades for a tried and tested NBA point guard (Trae Young comes to mind, also Chris Paul), then I'd like another ballhandling, creative wing who can also shoot (this last part is important) such as Matas Buzelis or Zaccharie Risacher. A dark horse would maybe be Justin Edwards. An even bigger one could be Kyshawn George out of Miami. Then, this would be last on my list of priorities, but I guess it could also make some sense to draft a 5-man that could allow Wemby to get more reps at the 4. Yves Missi or Adem Bona fit what the Spurs have liked in recent years with the likes of Charles Bediako or Charles Bassey as defensive-oriented athletic centers. Thanks for watching as always!
