Apparently the studio (or whoever) was not happy with the ending where the young boy kills Sweeney. They thought it was too dark. But Tim Burton just refused to change it. Me, personally, I think it works perfectly.

Well, that's how the original show ends. If they changed it, it would miss the point.

@@Michelle-rv9ks Spoiler for those who haven't seen the film yet: Exactly the film literally has cannibalism, I think the ending is perfect just the way it is. And that the studio is just being overly sensitive. A boy was even sentenced to hang earlier in the movie.

Where can I find this? I wanna read up on it lol
I was in a production of this show in my home state of Washington, it's an absolute masterpiece and pretty well adapted in this film. Also, fun fact, they cast Johnny Depp without knowing if he could sing, they were spending millions on the film and had never heard him sing before, thankfully he managed to pull it off.

Johnny Depp starred in Crybaby from 1990 which was a musical, so they may have already known he could sing. It was a different type of singing but its been known for a while that he is in a band too.
We got Turpin’s rat which is ironic since he’s Ron’s rat in Harry Potter And pirelli from Le Mis 😂 Jamie Bower from Mortal instruments and recently Stranger Things Alan Rickman Johnny and Helen The cast is immaculate 😩

And Johnny Depp was Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts movies before he was recasted. Such a loss in the HP franchise. Amber Turd is a menace!! 💩
Helena BC just like “yeah whatever”after Johnny’s big dramatic meltdown 😂
I found this movie in high school and was instantly hooked. I love tim burton as well as johnny but i had no idea what the movie was about. glad your watching this one. The way bodies slide from the chair to the basement will forever be imprinted in my brain since i was 16 lol
The actor who plays the young sailor is now VECNA, from Stranger Things!!😜🔥🔥🔥🔥

To quote Jafar, when you finally watched Sweeney Todd: *"YES! AT LAAAAST!" (Maniacal laughing)*
Musical-Horror Cinematic with cannibalism. Johnny Depp plays the villain protagonist. Phenomenal plot points. Incredible costumes and musical numbers...
I'm SO glad you loved this! I hope you will consider Moulin Rouge. Completely differently musical, but a really good one.
Primate, this should set you off on a Tim Burton filmography binge, his work is so weird but human at the same time, this movie is timeless, the story is so tragic and deaths are so exaggerated and poetic, I like how music was used to set the heavy mood throughout, musicals are a hit and miss for me, but this is an all time hit
My mom and me watched Musical movies growing up. I have so many favorites The Phantom Of the Opera, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Kind and I, Annie, Phantom of the Paradise, Rumpelstiltskin. I highly recommend both Moulin Rouge, and Repo The Genetic Opera. Just to clear things up, his wife did poison herself only she didn't die and suffered from burns on her face. She became homeless and watching Joanna from the window outside the Judges house for 15 years. It's very sad.
A musical in a more darker-tone similar to Sweeny Todd, but much more comedic is The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I always love watching them together for halloween in October.
The young boy in this who we see fall for the girl, Anthony, is played by Jamie Campbell Bower. He's in S4 of Stranger Things. He also played young Grindelwald in Harry Potter DH pt 1 when Voldemort seeks out Gregorovitch's memories to trace the Elder Wand. Watch out for him in Stranger Things though
Nice! Love this movie. Saw it as an off-broadway production in New York about five years ago. Took place in a pie shop and they served pies before the show. Sweeney Todd jumped on people's tables and slashed his knife at us. And then on the way back to our hotel we got to ride with Judge Turpin. What a fun night

I was introduced to this movie the summer after it came out and was never into musicals. But ever since i watched it ive found new love of the genre. I even bought the soundtrack which never gets old. Every song is masterful.
I love this film! It's one of my favourite Tim Burton/ Johnny Depp films. A musical/ film i'd absolutely love for you to watch is Tick, Tick... BOOM! It came out last November, it's starring Andrew Garfield (Amazing Spiderman) and was directed by Lin Manuel Miranda (his directorial debut) who played Hamilton in Hamilton obviously, and it's based on a true story. I watched it for the first time this Tuesday and it honestly hasn't left my mind since

“pretty women” and “T.W.P.I.L” are my top favorite songs from this! Johnny Depp did an ASTOUNDING job! Then again, it’s always a vibe whenever he and Tim Burton team up!
This movie got snape bellatrix Peter pettgrew young grindelqald (the dude from stranger things) and old grindlewald Johnny depp
i personally love johnny depp’s voice, in fact he started his career as a singer/musician and till today that’s what he likes the most and he has a band that’s pretty good and plays all around the world. i love him as an actor too of course and this movie is amazing! loved ur reaction 🫶🏼
Chicago is an incredible musical you’d love!
Another Johnny Depp recommendation I have is a small skit he did with Ricky Gervais on his show called “Life’s too short”. It’s only like 4 minutes long and it’s on KZread so you could like add it at the end of the next Depp movie you watch
My absolute favorite moment in theater was getting to play the Judge against one of my best friends playing Sweeney, we were so in to the Performance that opening night. Damn it was electric and the pretty women reprise scene. I miss acting in high-school.

Appreciate that you enjoyed my movie I wrote Sweeney Todd knowing it was dark. Surprised myself that I could be that dark. My favorite part of your reaction was how surprised you were at the twist. That's what I was going for. Thanks for loving it
Hilarious how you said "his little rat so to speak" since he plays wormtail in Harry Potter who can transform into a rat 🤣 Have to say one of the best trio's to act together Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman (RIP)❤ and Helen Bonham Carter Loved your reaction!! If you did choose another musical to react too I would suggest Phantom of the Opera
Singnore Pirelli Is Played By Sascha Baron Cohen
Hey, love the video. Btw if you enjoyed seeing Johnny Depps beautiful acting skills this movie You should watch the movie Black Mass where he is depicting a bad ass mob boss.

omg, this movie is one of my all-time favorites!!! Johnny is so FANTASTIC!!!!!
Repo! The Genetic Opera is also a great musical. Basically about harvesting organs.
Sees your reaction to Perelli getting his throat cut You’d better get used to it, because you’ll be seeing a lot more of it later I’ve loved this movie since I got it on dvd I remember I bought it because my old high school science teacher mentioned it in class one day. It’s up there with Jack Sparrow among my favorite Johnny Depp performances
I'm not big on musicals either, but the only ones i do like are a lot of dialogue with some songs. If it's a musical where it's entirely singing, i avoid it like the plague. I haven't seen Les Miserables or Hamilton. But i love Chicago. Sweeney Todd and the Phantom of the Opera have some really great songs
If you liked this and want to discover more musicals, I really have to recommend "Starkid" They produce and post musicals for free right here on KZread and they're good! Their early work is more parody based "A very Potter musical" "Holy musical Batman" "Twisted" and "Trail to Oregon" is all based on something from pop culture and they do a good job with it. Then their later work is more serious.. "the guy who didn't like musicals" and "Black Friday" are apart of the 'Hatchetfield' trilogy and the songs are fire!..imo. You don't have to react to them but I'd bet my money that you'd enjoy them! Their Harry Potter musical is iconic, but do check out "the guy who didn't like musicals" for a nice twist on the whole "musical" thing.
Tim Burton is one of my all time favorite directors, and this is one of my favorites of his movies.
Thanks, Primate! 💈 There are some great musicals out there. I'm glad you're enjoying them.
Thanks primate! I wrote the movie and asked that Stephen Sondheim be given credit for being such an inspiration and being so great. Your reaction was a blessing that I am grateful for 💓
Another amazing musical I think you would really like is Rent from 2005, amazing songs and great characters as well as a powerful story.
The best musical comedy horror film since Little Shop Of Horrors.
This movie got me interested in Johnny Depp as an actor. I already seen him as Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands, but never thought anything of it.
The dark colors of the film sets the tone of a dark ghost like theme. This is how Sweeney Todd is feeling internally.
Huh huh huh that thumbnail!! 😆 now I'm hyped to see you watch this. It's a fantastic trip. And Johnny and Helena are superb!
Here we fuckin go
Oh im so happy you reacted to this! Its soo underrated
ItsAPrimate, the actor playing Anthony is Jamie Campbell Bower, and maybe you recognize him from Stranger Things season 4.
Sweeney Todd is definitely 1 of my top 5 favorite musicals!!! Totally loved your reaction to this great tragedy!!! I would like to recommend one of my other top 5 favorites for you to watch. The Phantom of the Opera has a great story and awesome music so I think you would enjoy it!!! 🤩

sweeney todd the demon barber of Fleet Street (2007/2008)
I think you would enjoy more of Stephan Sondheims work (the composer of this). Into the woods and company are two that come to mind. I would also recomend west side story and sound of music.

Perfume: a story of a murderer is a great one too. Alan Rickman in it and Dustin Hoffman and dirty old kinda vibe like in this one. It's not a musical though. Worth checking out too. Great reaction!
You may be interested in another dark comedy/horror musical, "Little Shop of Horrors". I was 6 when it came out, so I grew up on it -- much more nostalgic for me than any Disney movie, or even Don Bluth movie.
awesome we are doing sweeney todd love this movie i even got a replica of one of the razers my friends is my fav song from this movie but i love the whole sound track
I remember freshman year of high school playing Toby! Our workshop students build a whole reclining-chair-trap-door mechanism that would slide the actors under the stage. Our final performance, the chair malfunctioned at the climax, the kid who was playing Turpin got bruised, and the guy playing Sweeney improved and said to the audience, "I hate it when that happens."
I’ve watched very few musicals, but I enjoyed this one.
My good sir diving into the world of Sweeney Todd is a good step into a wonderful world of musical history. One of the best dark musicals ever produced. Glad to see people enjoying this classic. Gotta admit Johnny Depp can sing
After finding out that Jack The Ripper was actually most likely a barber, my headcanon is that Toby takes over the barber shop after the end of the movie and becomes Jack.
Bro I just saw you started to watch breaking bad!!!! It’s about damn time!!!!! Yessss
Fun fact: Laura Michelle Kelly (The Beggar Woman) is only SIX years older than Jayne Wisener (Johanna), despite the fact that they play mother and daughter.
"horror musical comedy, dark comedy" me: "where the hell is all the comedy-"
The style of this reminds me of hammer horror film. Where the color correction is so dole that the film is almost black and white. However the red is over saturated that the blood or other red this stick out

Young Grindelwald, old Grindelwald (Johnny), Peter Pettigrew, Snape, Bellatrix ... anyone else?
The thing that continues to amuse me greatly is Stephen Sondheim’s stated purpose in writing this musical. “I wanted to see if I can scare people during a musical.” 😂 The reason lacks depth yet he did not phone in the work whatsoever. Many consider Sweeney Todd to be his masterpiece. I’ve been a huge Sondheim fan for 20+ years now, so it was cool to see you appreciating/vibing with the music and lyrics. Sondheim’s life was rather unusual and wrote music that really spoke to the human condition. Some of his shows had really unique concepts, with the most interesting arguably being ‘Assassins.’ Its cast of characters: individuals who attempted to unalive~ US Presidents.
u should try out gerad butlers version of the phantom of the opera
The kid is in the new season of Stranger Things! Just realized lol
Tim Burton is so underrated. He's rarely mentioned as one of the most stylish and influential directors in this generation. My personal ranking of his filmography is: 1. Edward Scissorhands 2. Batman and Batman Returns 3. Sweeney Todd 4. Big Fish 5. Sleepy Hollow 6. Corpse Bride 7. Nightmare Before Christmas 8. Big Eyes 9. Planet of the Apes 10. Beetlejuice 11. Alice in Wonderland 12. Ed Wood 13. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 14. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children 15. Dark Shadows 16. Frankenweenie
