    Johnny B's opinion on anything firearm related, other than what he brags about buying, is irrelevant. He's an entertainer period. Guys that have opinions based on real life and death situations, such as Paul Howe or Clint Smith and Ken Hackathorn are the men that I listen to. Not because they're the be all end all but because they have experience to back up their claims. I wouldn't take truck driving advice from a 20 year old dispatcher for the same reason.

    Well said sir. Great job on all of the issues that people have been tearing Hackathorn a new one over. I am not taking up for Ken nor do I agree with everything he says, but I also have been around the block a few times and thinking things thru and watching and listening closely all the way without an emotional knee jerk, most people would understand some of what was being said and discussed. There were some things he didn't go into his reasoning behind his thoughts or didn't say something more appropriately or accurately but truth of the matter, Hackathorn has forgotten more gun related topics and tactics than most will ever know.

    The gun culture is based on video games. Granted, we grew up with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood but the guns we carried were levers, revolvers and bolt rifles. The town I grew up in, the local gun store had AR's and AK's. No one really bought them. It was northern california, high sierras, hunters. The first time I heard a guy use words like appendix or isosceles or whatever, I had no idea what the guy was talking about. I grew up with guns, did the nra safety hunter when I was a kid. almost got my CCW and decided, who cares. Nevada has open loaded cary. Case in point. Do you have a wife or a chest feeding birthing person ? That is how rediculous the united states has become.

    I remember going into a drug store, pulling a gun magazine off the rack, and reading a random article by some dude named Massad Ayoob. "What a weird name" I thought. But the article seemed quite sensible. But what did I know? I was 16 at the time and had never fired a gun. Now I'm in my mid 50s and Massad and Ken are still kicking around and teaching classes. Hell, I'm a subscriber. So I agree, we should respect our elders. But just because I respect them doesn't mean I take every thing elders say without question. If I did that I'd be a Biden voter! I don't like appendix carry for much of the reasons Ken said. But I know people who are very well trained in it. It is one of the best ways to carry concealed. I disagree with his stance on lights. I like to see what I'm gonna shoot first. If it merits a bullet or buckshot I want to keep seeing it in case it needs more without juggling a light and a gun. I definitely disagree with the way he said civilians shouldn't have gear the military and police use. I am far from alone with that and I think it angered people more than anything else. The world is changing and right now not for the better. 25 years ago nobody needed an AR (or so it seemed) and bolt rifles, shotguns and revolvers sufficed. Now anyone rocking a double barrel shotgun not LARPing as Doc Holliday is a Fudd. (I used to be a "two shots of buck is all you need" guy.) Why is that? Because today's police are not automatically your friends, capable, or even competent. Excepting sheriffs in conservative areas they haven't been friendly for a while. As for competence? One word: acorn. The military is getting less friendly though thankfully less competent as it re-enacts the institutional morass of the 1970s. "Revinoors" got their numbers bumped up to larger than the Marine Corps with guns to boot. Every federal bureaucracy has its own goon squad. Even the Department of Education has a SWAT team. If you live too close to a big city you might get got by Antifa, a BLM mob or maybe even Iranian sleeper cells. So very soon - if it hasn't happened already - anyone who doesn't own body armor and decent quality NVGs will be a Fudd.

    I agree except about the home defense wml. You do not have to point your gun at someone to identify them with the wml. You can have the gun at low ready pointed at the floor infront of them and the light will be plenty bright to see if they are a threat. Same if it's pointed up at the ceiling. If your are pointing your gun at an unknown person to use the light to see them and you know it could be a family member, well that's a reason to get training. It's not a reason to forgo a wml.

  • @Brett235

    @Brett235

    Bullets bounce off of concrete so a negligent discharge at 2am when you're sleepy and sweeping the floor with your wml to see who or what is possibly in your house is a recipe for disaster. Having all of your fine motor skills and situational awareness along with remembering your training when you're sleepy is a maybe at best. Handheld lights are easy to carry and easier to deploy.

    @@Brett235 Get training. An ND can't happen if your finger is not on the trigger if you are not going to shoot. Your comment sounds like someone who is unsure and inexperienced in their gun handling. I literally can't pick up a gun or even drill without my finger automatically going straight and high along the side. If you really think you could have an ND in that situation you need to train and practice more so you are the same. Safe gun handling should be so automatic it takes brain power NOT to do it. Not the other way around. Otherwise you will screw it up when distracted or under extreme stress like when someone is trying to kill you. Let alone tired. Also you are assuming the floor in everyone's house is concrete. It's not. Part of this is knowing stuff like that ahead of time and making plans accordingly. Oh and that's also why I said you can also point it up. You could also point it on a wall to their left and get the same effect. Depending on what's on the other side of it of course. Have you even thought about moving around your house with a gun in your hand before? Like where you would point it? How you would go though a door way? Do you know these things? Like if you have a second floor is pointing it up a good idea? Could be. Could not be. But man you gotta know and decide these things and practice them with like a blue gun before you have to do it for real with with lives on the line. There is a lot more too this than just putting a gun on your night stand. Food for thought.

You're dense if you don't think that you can't have a negligent discharge when you're awakened in the middle of the night, it's happened many times. I'm guessing that you're one of those cqb ninjas that sleep with your nods and plate carrier on.. LMAO.

    I use both and even made a video called ''foolish arguments'' to demonstrate that it don't really matter. Training matters. It is dedicated to both sides and i do have a Wilson Combat 1911 in the video. It can hang with any goochi glock. I use a Hackathorn special and have the up-most respect for these older instructors. I feel bad that the young people of today and in the firearms industry are extremely sensitive and often times obviously feminized by todays society... Anyway I got 3 Purple Hearts in Afghanistan and what I learned from all that real gun-fighting, is that the first ""HIT"" matters the most. It is the first shot from the draw that matters most. And even with the safety on and in a 4 o'clock Push-pull draw with no optic and a low capacity magazine the 1911s first shot is the same or faster. This is clearly demonstrated in my low budget black and white video. Because I have practiced both Millennial, plastic, appendix, sensitivity, flashlight with an optic. And on the other hand I have practiced no optic, leather holster, 45 ACP full power, Masculinity, Minimalistic and straight up Fud mode. They both work... They would both drop a mass shooter no problem or a POS Taliban. Subbed and liked!!

    So when he talks about the different "missions" of civilians, law enforcement, and military, his point is. In self defense Legally it is the job of the civilian stop the attack. It is the job of law enforcement to stop the attack and pursue the assailant. It is the job of the military to be the assailant. So hackatorn says all this When giving legal advice for people who are concealed carrying handguns. He's not saying don't defend yourself against tyrannical government. These statements were mostly just made for people who might wind up on the witness Stand because they got into a self-defense shooting. Remember, he's teaching this to a ccw class.

Ken hackathorn didn’t just say “I don’t like red dots, appendix carry or weapon lights” he made several videos insinuating those who did so were stupid, while all those tactics or items are proven and have their benefits. I understand being respectful to your elders, but elders also shouldn’t be blatantly idiotic and act superior to the younger generation. Am I supposed to respect Fauci for his years of medical experience and age when he’s blatantly incorrect now? Am I suppose to respect Biden because he’s been in office for decades and is aged, all while he’s being an absolute moron? Now I know those examples I’ve given are people I vehemently disagree with of course I would have more respect to someone I respect more, but the people I respect more wouldn’t demean me for having things that are simply superior. My last class I was running with two gentlemen in their 70s who had red dots and wmls and extended mags, coolest dudes I’ve ever met. Respect the elderly for their age sure, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t being dumb.

He just said it wasn't a necessity, but he also said. If you want a red dot, be sure to go out and get you a good quality one. And he gave several recommendations. It seems like there's a tendency among "young" people today, (millennials up to gen Z), to automatically discount, tear down and cast into disrepute just about anything said by the "baby boom" generation. I really don't understand this at all. I guess I'm what's considered a "boomer," a term I used to take pride in because I was the last ditch product, (born in 1960), of the men and women who grew up scratching to survive during the depression and fought Hitler and Tojo into the ground and made our Republic of States the greatest Country on the planet. Now, I consider the term as derogatory because that's the way it's used by these newer generations. I don't understand the flippant contempt and callous disregard many in the newer generations have for their elders. In my day, when an elder spoke, whether you agreed with him or not, you gave him the respect deserving of his age and experience and listened to him. I may not have agreed with what he had to say, but I listened to him and allowed him to speak without afterwords talking about him like he was a senile old idiot who should be put on the "pay no mind" list. Men like Ken Hackathorn and Massad Ayoob have literally forgotten more about firearms and armed combat that I will ever hope to know. When men like these speak, you would do well to listen.

    The “Ok Boomer” thing needs to stop. Gen Xennial to Gen Zero thinks they are the greatest generation because they follow the latest trend and talk among themselves. A Fudd is ANYBODY that says “I’m all for the Second Amendment...BUT,...” listing all these things you shouldn’t have or be allowed to have. This applies as much if not more to cocky 18 year olds as to never-grew-up 88 year old that hates AR15s. Experience matters and age has a lot to offer youth if youth is wise enough to listen.
