It took him six years, upwards of £20000, and it looks like he learned to code to build Johnny 5! What an amazing thing! Yes, a labor of love! I wonder how many rewatches of Short Circuit he had to have to figure out components, and get the look right!

Thank you so much for rebuilding Johnny 5! Not only did you rebuild him, but he’s in the best home he could possibly be in! You have no idea what this robot means to me in my life.He got me through the toughest times as a kid, and to see him back in 2024…. I’m tearing up. Thank you.

So lovely to see Johnny 5 still alive! He's one of those loveable characters that you instantly want to hug. Those lovely clear eyes, just so innocent. Absolutely beautiful. This isn't a model or toy, this is art, this IS Johnny 5. He's just adorable. I can't even imagine the work and hours put into him, but he's perfect. Has he met Steve Guttenberg, Ally Sheedy, GW Bailey at Comic Cons? He absolutely needs to. I love Johnny 5, he's almost the robot version of ET

Isn’t it nice when there’s nice news for a change

Its amazing that the movie prop creators of these robots started from scratch and created these working models in months instead of years. They were very well thought out as well. The crouch, stand and stair climbing, all terrain capability is something we still don't see in commercial robots. Very impressive. There is one YT video shows a machine shop during Covid making parts for J5 they never completed the project due to other business. But, IIRR they were going to make their CAD drawings for hip swivel and shoulder mounts available.

I love him so much. I like most 80s kids have fond memories of Johnny 5. Back in the 80s I don’t think it was even possible to build a version of him as functional as that. A lot of the shots were of pupated versions. With AI what it is now give it another 40 years and it will probably be possible to make an actual Johnny 5. As is you could audio sample from the movies and use AI to replicate the voice to anything you want him to say.

This is probably more fully featured than the original screen used models, as they would have various versions that could do different things, depending what the scene being filmed called for, but this one seems to be fully functional. Most of the ones used n the movies were elaborate puppets. Well done.

The footage was heavily edited, we was in the studio for about 45 minutes and the cut alot out. I said that I has started before and the metal version was mostly machined during the Pandemic.
